...dude...that is how a company works.

You release a product to put on sale.
People do or do not buy that product.
If the product does not sell, then its a crappy product.
If the product does sell and continues to sell, then its a good product.

Once you start working you'll understand <_<

dumbing down an rpg is stupid because it will never appeal the FPS crowd. All you can do is lose RPG fans. Mass Effect got simplified and gained sales.Dumb it down a bit more and you will lose all rpg fans and will not get  FPS fans because they will be busy playing COD4 no matter how good your RPGish third person shooter with moral choices is.

The issue with your examples is that the originals didn't have things like a toolset to begin with, of course it doesn't have complains for the sequels for not having one neither, but if they had then you can bet that there would be a lot of complains for removing something.

From the select few people who actually use it. While I use the toolset rather frequently, console users don't get acess to it at all, and a lot of PC users don't even realize theres a modding community to begin with. Let alone something as substantial as a toolset.

If the toolset stay, then it stays. Yay.

If it doesn't, then the game will still sell. And it will still be a success.

in terms of amount of sellings, yes I agree.
But in term of a righteous studio who is listening to what their customers are asking, no it won't be a success.sorry.It's up to BioWare now.Still hope they may react then.

If that were true, then you would know the basics of supply and demand. Along with importance of monetary gain for the continued success of a company.

And as for

Diablo is not an rpg.

Go onto Blizzards website, or simply google "diablo".

They all list it as and Action-RPG

to be fair, Dragon Age has a better chance to become a hack&slash clone than a shooter

And once again. You say one thing, but the numbers say another. Mass Effect 2 was "dumbed down" compared to mass effect just enough to reach the perfect balance.

It attracted RPG gamers as well as a quite few FPS and TPS gamers.

I really don't see us getting a toolset for this game and the reasoning is this.

Bioware are making money hand over fist selling 'dlc' for ME 2, a lot of this DLC, weapon and clothing packs etc, are available for free from the wonderful modding community of Dragon Age. Go to dragon Age nexus and look at all the weapons you can download, companies now realise they can charge you for things people will happily make for free if they have the tools.

A bit off-topic, but I wouldn´t put Arcania as in the good RPG to wait for list. While people are not so passioante about it, there are several concerns about what they are doing. The actual Gothic 4 is Risen anyway.

boyo, I don't give a damn on supply and demand of my RPG games, the most successful ones were never the best ones to begin with, Fallout, Wastelands, BG, IWD, Arcanum, Vampires TM all had some monetary success but never were top sellers, I don't want my games to be watered and streamlined just to fit your ideal "supply and demand" statistics

Well, save some more because if you like rpg's, there will be a few to add to the collection.

Besides the obvious The Witcher 2, which promises to keep all the core elements and improve them, never remove them, there will be Arcania-A Gothic tale, aka, Gothic 4 (JoWooD/Spellbound) and we'll probably will have something new from Piranha Bytes, hopefully a sequel to Risen.

As I've said before, there are some decisions being made for The Witcher 2 that are every bit as questionable as those in DA2. Namely, the paraphrased responses, timed dialogue and QTEs. I think like DA2 it'll still be a good game, but it won't be the game I want it to be.

Gothic 4 is an unknown quantity - it comes from a developer with no track record of making RPGs, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but I see little to suggest it'll be anywhere near the same quality as Gothic 2, let alone the greatly inferior Gothic 3. Various gameplay elements have been changed substantially, like the leveling system (no trainers) and they're making one of the endings from Gothic 3 canonical and turning the Nameless Hero from the previous games into a tyrant. It could still turn out to be a good game, but I find the changes more concerning than those made for DA2.

I think they should add a teamplay mode to DA, not MMO, but play with mates, maybe co-op or something to make the game more interactive.

Right, and everything...even Blizzard itself states that it is an Action-RPG.

Or "Action-Role Playing Game. If abbreviations are too hard for you to understand.

the numbers say dao outsold me2.

And good luck reaching perfect balance in a dark fantasy game, maybe they include fps mode for archers.

I won't pay for weapons or armor. In fact I don't even use any community made items, I only use community fixes and want the community to be around to fix whatever glitches/annoyances for DA2.

Edit: At least there would still be some kind of pseudo-isometric tactical camera.

But the number of sales that it gained managed to outway the sales that it lost.

It sold more copies in its first week than the original did in an entire year.

I thought they said they would put back some elements in 3. Can´t help thinking whoever said goodbye to inventory and Mako was not from the dev team.

Why do you think any of the pissed off fans would care about the sales? or why do you think the people who are already or will be pissed by the changes for DA2 will care? Stop speaking statistics as it leads to nowhere.
