Bioware and EA: Selling out to Bros for money.

Give into the console kiddies and there is no going back. In a few years Bioware will be churning out Halo/300 knockoffs yearly, for EA.

Stop blaming EA for this. Bio went console years before they came along.

Now that was unexpected. No aerial view = no buy for me.

Same here. I played DAO in aerial view 98% of the time. No aerial view, no purchase.

I keep an eye on him. That is all. I like to check my sources and make sure they are clear. I don't like the idea and a few designers have stated this. We would keep the top view for the PC version. I know I've seen it and read it, so I'm not going to go off of this little article.

I've been lurking around here too waiting for some concrete information on the PC. Most of what I've seen has concerned the console version of DA2, to include the GameInformer article. The best I've gotten out of the snipets I've seen is that the PC version hadn't changed MUCH. I don't think I've seen any information on what the graphics and game play looks like for PC yet. Without having a credable non-BW third party play the pc version and comment on it, it's hard not to get sucked into the information vacuum.

I completely agree with you, but I did see somewhere they were saying about the games top view that it wouldn't change. I saw it just last week and I'm not in the mood to go get the link to it. YEs, I'm being lazy!Posted Image
But what you have confirmed is true they haven't changed much on the PC. I think this information is with the consoles only. The problem and lot of the people on this thread are freaking out and comparing the PC version to the Console when I think the designer was only talking about the Console. Posted Image

I can understand the financial reasoning for not releasing a toolset. Without free mods to compete with, DLC will get more sales. The toolset won't have to be constantly patched and supported by the developers to help people who have no idea what they're doing. Money is saved and made.

I can see that used as reasoning, but it strikes me as rather short-sighted. One thing which is possible with the Toolset is removal and/or modification of individual (sometimes minor, sometimes not-so-minor) pet-peeves which can otherwise spoil the player's experience and turn them off from the game. And a player who doesn't enjoy playing the core game very much because of such (now no longer removeable) shortcomings isn't very likely to want to buy extra DLC for it. After all, why would they want to spend more money on a game which irritates them more than entertain?

You know it's funny. BioWare's saying over and over that "Dragon Age 2 is not copying Mass Effect!"

And yet the more new stuff we learn, the more it feels like that's exactly what it's doing.

Now I like Mass Effect, but please keep my Mass Effect out of my Dragon Age. Different games, different goals, different playstyles.

I'm just getting less and less excited about Dragon Age 2 as time goes on. What a disappointment.

now all the people who laughed at the doomsayers can turn their backs and hang their heads in shame... da2 is in fact a dumbed down console game to satisfy the casual gamers!

Just because you now (might) have something concrete to complain about doesn't mean that your previous whining wasn't entirely unfounded (and hilarious to normal people).

I know.

People get all pissy with me when I say I'm annoyed at such and such for trying to emulate another series when I like that series. The issue isn't whether I like the series they want to emulate. It's about what I want from that particular series/game.

sigh. at least I'll save 50 bucks.

I own PS3 as well, but I buy only console exclusive games like Red Dead Redemption or FFXIII for it. When game is on PC as well, I want to play it on my computer which is light years ahead of any console and it can do so much more that a console can't.

Almost the first thing I did with DAO was make the selection circles darker and toned down the spell effects. That alone made DAO 5x better than it would have been. It's these little irritating things that make the toolset so great.  What do we do in DA2 when Bioware go overboard with the effects again and put permanent pink clouds around our characters?

I'm pretty sure I saw something similiar with the top down carmera thing....but I'm also starting to wonder if it wasn't worded in an ambiguous way and I just understood it that the camera angles hadn't changed. And I'm WAY too lazy to dredge through the 100 or more threads I've probably looked at. My growing concern is that maybe, as is apparently stated in the OP's quote, there isn't the kind of attention and focus being put on the PC version. If DA2 does, in fact, cater to the console version to the expense of the PC version what's to say they didn't remove the aerial view as a recent thing?

i never whined about something. i know that it will be crap the first time i heard they are focusing on consoles. the lack of support for the current toolset clearly shows the way bioware drives ;)
