The biggest mistake BioWare made is marketing it as a sequel. They should have just said spin-off

But... it is a sequel. Our subjectivity on the subject is simply that.

Much less people would be angry with the changes if it was just called a spin-off game. Half Life had Blue Shift, Decay etc. before HL2 came out. Even if they made a DA RTS game nobody would be angry as long as it isn't called DA3

Blue Shift was an expansion.

Well, considering they haven't bothered updating the toolset as is, I find it hard to believe they'd put the work into updating it work with DA2...

It's as much as a sequal as the scary movie series. *nods head*

Already called the no toolset. Right as usual.

A little disappointed, but people will mod it anyway.

I'm getting more and more disappointed with DA2. I have a strong feeling that it will be a short game (about 20-30 hours like Mass Effect 1), and not the long game (50+ hours) that was DA:O.

I'm absolutely not buying this at release.

And no mods simply means reducing the time people will actually be interested in the game, and letting the community go to another games, certainly the witcher II.

Unless I'm totally mistaken, the DA 2 Toolset that the developers use is the exact same toolset they used to make DAO, so not releasing a toolset isn't exactly going to mean we can't mod the game, since all we would really need are updates to the toolset we have and the resources that aren't included in the game files.

Don't you wish it was that simple. :P

Me guess is this is not the case seeing as I'd be utterly shocked if the exact tools used for Origins were reused for 2 without any alteration (It only takes one tiny alteration to throw this theory out the window).

Regardless of that fact though, just read the words he used. He talks about the Origins toolset being very complex (Meaning vast majority of users won't get it) and the fact it takes a long time for player made campaigns to come out, a greater length then it takes for them to develop a new game. There isn't going to be a toolset, but false hope is better then no hope I suppose.

"For budgetary reasons, we focused our work on a 3rd person view, that asks for very detailed and nice textures so that the player can admire the game with a close-up view. With an aerial view [isometric] we should cover much more ground and so create other textures. Now, the game mainly sold on console, so we're going the way of the audience"

That is the translation that the OP posted. However at no time dose it say he is talking about all versions of the game. All press info has been the 360 build (correct me if I am wrong) so Mike could easily have been just talking about what he was showing to the interviewer.

Darrah already said in an interview somewhere that DA2 would not be as long as Origins, but it would be longer than Awakening. Make of that what you will...

I believe in the Art podcast they even mention how they completely re-made the face morph tools.

Look, you don't have to think of it as one if you don't want to. But it is. There's literally no point in complaining that you don't think it is one.

I will control my nerdrage. I will.

I will pray to every deity and demon I know that the information on the Toolset is inaccurate. Ideally, I'd just prefer the DA:O toolset to be patched, updated, and announced to work with DA2. That would make life almost perfect. However, if it comes to be shown that DA2 will not be mod friendly...

Well, I think Bioware will have a mob of angry modders marching on their headquarters. Indeed I do.

Jesus Christ. The game is supposed to take place over 10 years, isn't it?

I suppose replayability might make up for that but right now I don't give two ****s.

"When the developers of Bioware entered the console market, they offended the player base, and instead brought corruption to the franchise. They were cast out, transformed into the hideous monsters known as generic fantasy action game peons of EA, and forced to flee the light of traditional RPGs, retreating into the 360."

In all seriousness though, this news makes me very sad panda.

Could we have a translation of the quote concerning the toolset, please?

And no top-down means no friendly fire on spells, right?

translating now and will update the OP ASAP ;)

I think the full version of your translation makes it even worse.

I edited the first post with the question of the journalist. They are talking of PC version. Sorry.

I didn't include this translation first because I don't know how much I'm allowed to translate and quote without infringing copyrights and intellectual property.

Really? Because most CC's would need a heavenly choir to descend from the heavens to save them from eternal damnation.

This is troubling news indeed... So the point and click movement of Dragon Age is gone? If I want to play on pc I have to use clunky WASD if I don't have a controller? Or is it going to be a view that still coordinates with point and click? Most, most troubling.

That greatly depends on the format the files are in, we may be able to use already existing tools to unpack/repack the files into a readable and editable format or someone may have to create them from scratch, which is no small feat. And once that's done about the extent one can mod without going completely insane is editing variables and maybe the art assets.

Wait then his comments make no sense whatsoever!  Why didn't you put top down view on the PC.  "The game sold well on console so we are going with the audience.  YOUR TALKING ABOUT THE PC VERSHION WHO CARES WHAT PEOPLE ON CONSOLE WANT!!!  Ahhh I hope there is something in the translation that is getting lost.  Again not taking a shot at you Purple Lady just venting...
