Hi everyone,
I am playing BGII. I am presently in the Underdark, I've done with Ust Natha intriques and cleared the Beholder's lair. I thought that I had found the 'Blade of the Equalizer' in the Beholder's nest. However, I do not possess the item!!! I have visited the Beholder's lair again but the item is not there either!!! I think that I must have dropped it somewhere by accident. Now, I do not want to simply 'regain' the item using a save game editor. What I want is to locate the 'actual' copy of the item. I believe that this is possible through my saved game file but I don't know how. Any help by you expert guys would be valuable.
Thanks a lot~!!

Google tells me the blade is dropped from the Elder Orb that attacks you as soon as you enter the Beholder Lair.

Also, have you checked all of your bags of holding (you should only have one) and that you haven't accidentally sold it to the merchant (don't think that's possible though). I think there are also a few compartments in the walls (of the beholder lair) so check through those to see if you accidentally put it in.

Since it's not a quest item I think it will disappear if left on the ground for a day or so. So it's entirely possible that the 'actual' copy is completely gone and you'd have to reload before killing that Beholder (or soon after killing it).

It's not cheating to recover an item you accidentally lost via CLUA or Shadowkeeper. Just saves you time and hassle.

Yes Marty,
I did kill the Elder Orb and I have returned to its lair to check everything, including the wall compartments. The blade is nowhere...

Thanks a lot

Hi aimlessgun,
I am surprised when you say that the blade of the Equalizer is not a quest item and will disapear if not collected on time. If this is the case, I wll reload (unfortunately before entering the Beholders Lair) and collect the items normally.

Thanks a lot

Yes, the blade will disappear if left on the ground for too long.

Well, I've played the Beholder's Lair again to gain the 'blade of the Equalizer' but I am unable to find it (probably I never did!!!). I am copying from Dan Simpson’s walkthrough:

------------------------------------------------------------------

- BEHOLDER CITY

You will find the entrance to the Beholder City in the Southeast part of the Underdark (x 4120 y 3700). It is the passage that leads down. (The other one goes to the Illithid Lair)

We are here to find a Beholder Eye Stalk, and conveniently enough, we can find it on one of the first Beholders here. Kill the Elder Orb to find:

Elder Orb Eye

Blade of the Equalizer

Amulet of Spell Warding

Once you have the Eye, you can head back to Ust Natha and give it to the Matron Mother. Or you can finish exploring in here and kill a LOT of Beholders. . . . .

-------------------------------------------------------------------

That means that the Elder Orb at the very first room of the Lair will drop the Eyestalk, the blade and the amulet. BUT, when entering the Lair for the first time I just find an Eyestalk dropped on the ground, no Elder Orb to kill and offcourse no blade!!!

Further inside I find five Drows fighting a Beholder. I kill all but no one drops the blade (supposing that the Drows had already killed the Elder Orb in the first room and took the blade).

Anyone has a solution to this? I am grateful for reading this.

Some mods move the elder orb further into the tunnels and yet other mods move the blade to some other location.

Hi Irrbloss,

No mods installed. But I figured out that if I enter the Lair early enough (I tried before all the intrigues of Ust Natha but the right time may well be later in the game) then I do find the Elder Orb and I am able to kill it. Then the blade and the amulet appear. I guess I was too late in the first place. Now I have to catch up from an early saved game to do the trick.

Thanks a lot
