Personally, I love the diverse cast of characters ME2 and the original. But I would rather see BioWare come up with a whole new inventive and cool cast in ME3 than use characters we have already seen and know everything about. I think previous characters should be cameos and there should be around 8-15 entirely new squad members. Instead of sticking with the familiar I think BioWare should push boundaries and not get stuck in a rut with the same characters.

So you're telling me to bust my balls in ME1 to get all those characters, bust them even more to make me play the entire game recruiting people for ME2, bust my balls by making me make sure they live in the end, and then just downright bust my balls by giving my some bull crap excuse how they all leave and force me to round up a NEW squad ALL over again?

I didn't think many of the Mass Effect characters were that well written (except for maybe Mordin).

These are my basic thoughts on this situation collected from previous posts of mine in the Garrus thread:
"This is why I like the "make 10-12" and "let us recruit 6+." Make four new people. Then with those four new guys plus Liara and Virmire survivor everybody is guarantied at least 6 people. Then have the rest be returning squaddies and if you did well and your team survived the SM than you get rewarded by having more squaddies to pick through. If you didn't, well, you still have a full squad. The consequence is you can't have a custom squad."
and "Right, and this idea wouldn't even have to punish newbs because you could make the "default" option at the beginning have several people survive the SM. So a newb would have those 6 plus some default survivors say Tali and Garrus to pick through. The only people who would be penalized by this are specifically the people who did awful on the suicide mission and then imported that save."
This seems the best way to satisfy as many people as possible. Most of us get our LIs back. Those who want new characters get new characters. And with custom squad we will have some say in leaving behind characters that we don't like.

The only difference is that Carth is older. Kaiden sucks and I could tell you why but you probably don't want to listen
