Yeaaaaah. Uhhhh. Checked my achievements... all I'm missing is the paramour, one or two weapon ones and the insanity challenge....

Now I have heard and seen a lot of vids on Insanity.... and I'd be starting at Lv. 1... not NG+.....

Just curious..... best class/build? Remember... go easy on me.... first time.....Image IPB

For some odd reason.... I see soldier being the easiest.... maybe vanguard?

Infiltrator or Sentinel are probably easiest on Insane. Possibly soldier.

For Sentinel go with Assault Armor, Guardian, either max Overload, Heavy Warp and Tungsten ammo. (unless you always want to run with someone like Garrus/Grunt/Jacob with Squad ammo powers.

For Infiltrator go with Assasination Cloak, Assasain, Heavy Incinerate, Heavy Distruptor Ammo, Heavy Reave.

Vangaurd. You adapt quick enough to insanity with that, its not the most fun especially the collector ambush, god that was terrible, but the rest of it wasnt so hard, just keep getting upgrades and also in some situations vangaurds are actually easier to use e.g Talis mission.

Actually for Sentinel on Insanity I would prefer power armor (as opposed to Intax who likes assault armor). You will be spending a bunch of your time hiding behind crates and using powers to get through all the defenses, so higher base shields and stronger powers are nice.

But ultimately it is personal preference.

Level 1 ... I'd say soldier.

Infiltrator is easier overall, but requires more points to get going .. if you start at level 5 (from a lv 60 import), I'd say infiltrator.

Soldier is a hell of a lot easier than Vanguard. Vanguards are great, but they rely heavily on a high risk/high reward system.

EDIT:  One more thing.  If it's your first time through Insanity, do yourself a favor and get Thane as soon as possible.  With him and Miranda both carrying Unstable Warp, you have a much better chance of beating what is arguably the hardest battle in the game.

Unless you have someone doing a pull and or Slam combo to warp explode then unstable is useless.  Unstable only gives you a wider blast range on warp explosions, if you are not doing them much, then Heavy warp is much better for the higher damage.

So for Miranda I would take Heavy Warp, and if you are thinking of taking Slam high(waste in my opinion) then maybe another companion to unstable.  On my soldier/infil runs both got Heavy, and I didn't worry about explosions.  Guns to the max.

It depends on what bonus weapon you are going to take.

Widow Soldier needs Heightened.
Rev Soldier need Hardened.(and you may want to take a shield power early such as GSB).

The Rev AR is great but it means you are out of cover more than with the Widow so you WILL be taking damage, and thus the damage reduction of Hardened is necessary, and I found the addition of extra shields to be nice as well.  So I chose to take GSB with the additional 10% damage my Soldier run, but some like Warp Ammo, and Reave is always popular.

Unfortunate side effect of Heightened with rapid fire weapons is lower DPS becuase the time dialation is greater meaning you are shooting less when enguaged thus doing less damage even with the bonus to damage of Heightened.  This is another reason why you take Hardened on a Rev Soldier.  With the Widow you don't shoot fast, and so you WANT the extra damage per shot that you get with Heightened as well as the slowed down time making headshots EVEN easier.

Unstable Warp on squadmates has a shorter cooldown. That's why you choose it.

Anyway, easiest class is probably caster Sentinel.

yep, caster sentinel was my first insanity run, and even then i died too much. after doing 100+ insanity hrs you sort of forget how hard it was at the start.

I would reccomend soldier, infiltrator or sentinel as they all have 'repositioning' powers. which is to say, powers that let you retreat or reposition easily. AR, cloak and tech armor allow the easy getaway that you'll need on a starting insanity run.

Heh. Easiest class for Insanity seems to depend much on playstyle, it would seem.

I've yet to play Sentinel on Insanity, and their eclectic mix of tech/biotic powers makes a formidable class. I imagine if you're a tech/biotic power junkie, it's Sentinel all the way.

However, some people aren't power junkies. They like to concentrate on firepower. You'll never get a better class for firepower than a Soldier.

Before my console died, my Soldier playthrough was probably my fastest Insanity playthrough yet. But by that point, I'd done several Insanity playthroughs and had a good feel for how the combat worked on that difficulty. So was Soldier truly the easiest class for Insanity or am I just a decent Insanity player by now?

I highly recommend Sentinel - Infiltrator's cloak helps a lot with your getaway, but you can't heal or reload while it's up (you can reload, but it will drop) which makes it very difficult to use defensively. You can go very offensive on Insanity with an Infiltrator, but it requires a good deal of experience to pull off. Soldier also favors a more offensive playstyle.

I recommend Power Armor as well - the defensive boost is a godsend (especially once you upgrade your shields) and the boost to your powers helps a lot in peeling away defenses, which you will do a lot of on Insanity. Being able to counter any defense in the game is one of the Sentinel's key strengths - make the most of it.l

I used power armor but I'd actually recommend assault armor - the shield boost you get when tech armor drops is supremely useful in hairy situations.

As OniGanon pointed out, Unstable Warp has a shorter cooldown than its counterpart.  And you're absolutely right about high points in Slam.  The one point she automatically acquires will do, and can be used to set up a Warp Explosion with Thane.

Err... you sure about that? Been a while since I played but I'm pretty sure I've reloaded during cloak plenty of times...

Manual reloading does not drop the cloak, but the automatic reload (if you try to fire with an empty gun) drops it, just as if you had actually managed to fire that weapon.

This is relevant because cloaking too quickly after firing (say, to beat a hasty retreat) can interrupt the reload animation when your gun runs out.

If you want to be able to snipe, flank with a shotgun, and/or just machine gun fire hot death, I'd say a Soldier with at least Hardended Adrenaline Rush, Inferno Ammo, Squad Cryo, and the Revenant.

If you want to be safe in cover, while wearing power boosting armor, casting defense stripping powers, I'd say a Caster Sentinel with at least Power Armor, Heavy Warp, and Area Overload or Area Drain and the Mattock.

I used an Engineer on my Insanity playthrough (only one so far) and thought it was a lot easier than I expected. Even the hardest parts of the game with masses of husks were not too bad.

Tips for Enginners:

1. Drone is one of the most overpowered abilities in the game. Doesn't matter how you evolve it, the point of it is to keep one enemy busy. It works on nearly every enemy in the game and has a low cooldown, making it spammable.

Find the most dangerous enemy and give them a drone to think about. I have meleed charging krogans while they were busy looking at my drone. Drones are perfect for dealing with Harbinger or Scions as well.

2. Incinerate is excellent on Insanity due to armor being the most typical defense. I used Heavy Incinerate because of its better single-target damage. It's a very nice way to do damage without taking a lot of hits.

3. Miranda is too powerful to pass up so she's always on my team. Build her to take Unstable Warp (the one with lowest cooldown).

4. Mordin seems a very solid choice of a second teammate to me. I gave him Incineration Blast and between this, my own abilities, and Miranda's Warp, I could deal with all defenses and the masses of husks too.

I thought shields were the most common type of defense, not armor.  And with enough upgrades, Heavy Incinerate's extra damage is redundant against most foes.  I'd use Incineration Blast.
