Is it wrong to want to stick with the Mantis for a Infiltrator?

I love the Widow, don't get me wrong, but the Mantis looks a bit cooler, plus, I hate the why-is-it-there supports on the bottom of the Widow, since they server no purpose.
This is a single player game - if you think something looks better or sounds cooler, then go for it.
Personally I think the model for the Widow is really cool and I've never been a fan of the Mantis model, even back in ME1.
From an efficiency perspective, there's very litle reason why you'd stick with the Mantis, as it functionally it's a completely inferior rifle.

You paid for the game, its your right to play however you enjoy.
Thats what its all about.
The only "wrong" weapon choice is one you do not enjoy.

I agree. If I pick up another weapon on the collector ship over the widow I always run with the mantis, on both soldier and infiltrator. I hate semi-auto sniper rifles with a passion, in any game I've ever played that has them.Tlazolteotl wrote...
Run mantis + shotgun. It's sweet.
The mantis isn't a bad gun at all, it's just that the widow is a straight upgrade instead of a different variety of gun so everyone writes it off.

If you're not playing on Insanity or don't mind having to shoot enemies a couple of times before killing them - Mantis and Viper (my favourite SR) are very useful.

well maybe. I think they sure are.
for me, time dilation sniping gets old. I mean, I love the widow, and it kills everything in the room so well... but I just don't get the variety.
just ran through samaras recruitment with my CQCI (with flashbang, of course). without the sniper dominating, the infiltrators' powers really shine. incinerate for stripping armor and finishing, Squad cryo for crowd control, flashbang for stunning, cloak with shotgun for the up close and personal deathblow.
I just find it so much more interesting.

It doesn't work like that, when you take AR training on the collector ship, you can use any assault rifle in the game.(besides Revenant) That Includes the Mattock, Collector Rifle, Geth Pulse Rifle, Avenger, and the Vindicator.Cypher0020 wrote...
welll do you find the shotty or the AR more useful? I love my vanguard w/claymore...but the AR is nice..... is it the vindicator or avenger you get to pick from?

GPR, Vindicator, Avenger (you just choose 'AR training' at the collector ship, and pick weapon on a mission by mission basis, similar to heavy pistols and etc) - and then the Collector rifle and mattock can be aquired but not within the 'standard game'.
the locust is like th GPR but with a smaller clip and more punch. so I don't find AR's to add as much to the infiltrator, as its not a class likely to run out of ammo.
The shotgun is really good if you're really close, and infiltrators are one of he few classes that can get really close with ease. So I'd say, in summary:
my favourite build is:
Mantis; Locust; Eviscerator; Predator
the evi can insta-kill up close. an AR can't. big difference.

Widow isn't semi-auto, you're thinking of Incisor. Widow reloads after every shot just like Mantis does.
I definitely agree though, Mantis is fine for infiltrator, especially if you grab an Eviscerator for backup. There's an awesome video of a shotogun infiltrator owning Collectors solo on Insanity here.

the choice is really limited to widow or shotgun. especially if you have the locust. if you don't, well, you might want an assault ri- nonono! can't do it! must take shotgun.

One time I picked up the assault rifle with my Infiltrator, but the Tempest/Locust served my purposes much better. This is because I will use a sniper rifle until I absolutely have to change to another weapon for close quarter combat. Just think an SMG is better for that. Haven't had a chance to try the Mattock yet. I get the impression it is awesome.
Another time I picked up the shotgun, because it's even better than the SMG for close quarters.
But yeah, I'm just a Widow junkie.

I think he means the mantis over the viper or incisor, as he already excluded the widow. sentence construction would lead me to believe so, anyway.

Or you can just mod every weapon in... you know you want to.
