I´m restarting ME1 with a new shepard and i was wondering when i should start doing the non-plot citadel quests (like the consort quest, the keepers etc.). After of before i become an spectre? is there any difference? I usually do them from the get-go as i drop on the citadel (because i already know how to do the quests) but in this playthrough i want to be a bit more credible and do first what shepard would do first, that is the important things. So what do people think is the best way to make these quests, should i wait to be a spectre so i can benefit from the +1charm/intimidate while doing the quests?

The one for Samesh Bhatia requires 2 or 3 charm or intimidate, depending on how you do the quest. The Dr Michel blackmail quest needs 6 charm or 3 intimidate if you don't want to kill the blackmailer. The scan the keepers can also use charm/intimidate, depending on how you go about the quest.

Mostly though I prefer to complete the quests before becoming a spectre. At lower levels it's pretty much a guaranteed level up. I can usually get one level from finishing off the quests and one for becoming a spectre. If you do all the available quests before leaving you can generally leave at around level 11 or 12.

Depends if you want any ally achievements. For kaidan and ashley, makes no diff since you have them from the get go. For Garrus or Wrex, you can pick them early than do the assignments in any order. For Tali, just do Chora's den first and the Fist fight, but you can leave the spectre thing for later.

Liara is the most problematic. Because she requires 50 assignments, you have to become a spectre quick, without completing any assignements, then go to Therum, rescue her, fight thedamn krogan at level 12 or whatever, and come back and wrap up the assignments.

If you just want to do all the Citadel assignments in a believable way and order without too much trouble or confusion, I have ready-made algorithms for this. If you're interested, I can PM them to you. Posted ImagePosted Image

@Mr_Raider, thanks hehe but i already have all ally achievements unlocked, it was quite hard to do, even more as i did it the hard way, searching all uncharted worlds for quests to do. I think it took me 4 or 5 playthroughts in total to unlock every achievement.

@FieryPhoenix7, well what i want to do is roleplay a bit more with shepard this time around, and there are just so many assignments on the citadel that i am not sure when is better to do them. I know that waiting to be a spectre is good because of the extra charm/intimidate point you get, but from a roleplay sense i am not too sure.

For example, in other parts of the game, i try and do the missions in a order i think is logical based on what shepard learns in each place (i go therum-feros-virmire-noveria), and don´t do any sidequest just before going to Ilos (it is a speed run to save the galaxy after all, no time for anything else).

I am just unsure how to approach the whole citadel quests in a logical way that make sense. For example it don´t make much sense to me for shepard to keep the council waiting to give Tali´s recording while he is doing sidequests all over the place. So yes if you have any idea about how to make the quests in a way that makes sense to the story i would greatly appreciate it.

I've been thinking about this too. In the end, my latest Shepard did it this way (beware, naturally heavy spoilers are to be expected):

- after arriving at the Citadel, I wander around a bit (only the Presidium is accessible at this point anyway) and make sure to visit the bar near the embassies (to hear about Sha'ira from the barkeeper for roleplaying reasons), but essentially I go straight to the Citadel Tower (don't visit Sha'ira)

- after I'm told to investigate Saren, I usually go to Barla Von to learn about Wrex, but then decide that his information is a bit to vague to pursue this further, so I go to Sha'ira (in the hopes that she might be able to tell me something, because the barkeeper in the embassy lounge told me, she knows what's going on and a lot of important people including Spectres visit her). There I pick up the Asari Consort quest.

- then I go to Chora's Den and speak to Septimus & Harkin (this way I get to fight the assassins Saren sent after me, they aren't there if you pick up Wrex first)

- after that I personally don't go straight to the Clinic to pick up Garrus, but return to the embassies, because my character want's to hear about Anderson's involvement with Saren (I accept Anderson's request to ask him about it later during the scene in the Council chambers where Udina says it was a mistake bringing Anderson). While I'm there, I talk to the Elcor about Sha'ira and Septimus and I also pick up Samesh Bathia's quest on the way there (I don't solve it yet, but that just my personal preference)

- I then return to the Wards (solving the dispute between the Hanar and the C-Sec officer on the way there), where I pick up Garrus in the Clinic, after I accepted Emily Wong's quest.

- after that I go straight to Chora's Den (doing any other quests in the meantime just seems wrong) and deal with the Fist/Tali situation

- after being transported back to the embassy (if you didn't return to Anderson after Harkin, you can talk to the Elcor now) I go relatively straight back to the Council chambers, although I talk to Mr Bosker about Nirali Bathia's body first and visit Sha'ira to bring her the good news (I figure this gives Septimus enough time to write his "lovely note", but you might disagree and return to her later)

- then I go to get "spectred" (the reason I don't go straight to the Council chambers on both occasions is that both times the meeting has already started and if Shepard went there right away, (s)he wouldn't be late)

- after that I return to the Wards (after all Udina said he needs time to set things up), visit Dr. Michel (so she can thank me for saving her from Fist's thugs and the next time I'll visit her I can pick up her quest; although I do that only after returning to the Citadel after my first plot quest, otherwise it feels to rushed to me). While on the Wards I give the evidence to Emily Wong and I also find an excuse to visit Flux (I imagine the squad is just wandering aimlessly while waiting to be paged by Anderson & Udina and Garrus who is usually in my team at this point said we could visit Flux if I feel lucky). There I pick up the Jenna/Chellick questline and the "signal tracking" quest. When Chellick summons me to the C-Sec academy I overhear Jahleed and accept his quest as well (I usually don't accept the Keeper scanning quest from Chorban in the Council chambers, doesn't make sense to me to agree to something illegal right under the nose of the council) I usually do one after the other, but that means going from C-Sec to the Markets and back two times, so you might want to combine the quests.

- then I leave the Citadel (after picking up Wrex of course)

That way, the only things left to do (that could be done during your first visit) are:

- Dr Michel extortion quest
- tracking the signal (personally I continue this quest at my second visit to the Citadel, because it gives me a reason to go through the Wards access area where my Spacer Shepard meets Zabaleta)
- scanning the various Keepers, but I don't do that in an orderly way, I just scan then as I meet them
- talking to Conrad Verner, but since I visit the markets everytime I visit the Citadel (and I do that after every plot quest and sometimes in-bewteen, for example after finding out about Kahoku's men and the Thresher Maw), so there are plenty of opportunities for me to meet him

Sorry for the wall of text, but I figured since you want to hear about roleplaying reasons, I should explain why I do the quests in this order. :)

@Allerleihrau thanks a lot it is very helpful, there are plenty of good ideas of how to go about things :D I was also surprised how you roleplay also depending on what the answer to your quests is going to be (like giving septimus time to write the note to shaira) those are very good ideas. You are also right that shepard arrives late at the meeting with the council both times, i didn´t remember that.

Also another thing i noticed that might help others trying to do the same is, when you first arrive to the citadel, don´t use the fast transport at all. Just walk your way to the places that you have to go (council tower, wards etc.) and as your shepard meets people you start doing the respective quests.

In this way for example i did the keeper quest in a very quickly (thought i already knew the well hidden ones) and after becoming a spectre i completed the quests that i had left, plus picked the quest of kahuku and helena blake that only appear once you are a spectre.

Another advantage of walking around the first time is that you get some extra conversations on the elevators about how the whole Saren situation is going on, which i had never heard before because i always used the fast travel. When you go to the citadel later on in the game the fast travel are great of course.

it's really up to you on how you want to play it

if you're looking to be a Spectre sooner

here's my thoughts, talk to Chorbin after the council meeting (just scan the keepers as you go along with other quests)
then I would do Chora's Den (Harkin) then go to the med center (to get Garrus), stop to talk to Emily Wong on the way back to Chora's & take care of Fist, get Tali, become a Spectre, talk to Dr. Michels (need to do this first before coming back to do blackmailer quest) talk to Wong again (charm/intimidate for extra credits) talk to Wrex at C-Sec
(if you take care of Fist first - he gives you what the Shadow Broker paid him) then do the rest how you want
but, keep in mind about what was said with having to have enough charm/intimidate points to unlock dialogue

Edit: mis-read OP/made changes to response
