An Open Post to the Moderators/Forum Maintainers

I am writing this post on behalf of the many posters of this forum who have participated in what can be described as the strategy threads of the Mass Effect games.

A couple months ago, threads concentrating on the discussion of Mass Effect characters were moved to the "Mass Effect 2 Character, classes and Builds" forum by popular demand of the many participants of the "Mass Effect 2 Campaign and Storyline" forum. While this provided some satisfaction to the posters of the latter forum, it simply moved the problem to a less frequented forum with a completely different set of posters who now felt they were being pushed aside for a series of threads that seemed incongruous with the atmosphere that had been created on the forum to that point.

For those who may be reading this who would like to point out that "Mass Effect 2 Character" is in the title of the forum, please consider these facts:
1. The original welcome post by Chris Priestly described the forum as follows: "This forum is for fans to discuss their characters, the different classes in the game and your suggestions/opinions on how to create the best builds for the game."
2. The stickies on the forum at the time of the move were one about Vanguard tips, Mass Effect 2 Gameplay Data, and class Gameplay Videos.
3. The Dragon Age forums also have a forum specifically for the discussion of their class builds and playstyles: no discussion of the support of certain Dragon Age characters to be found.

Why do the posters to a strategy forum wish to be separated from discussion on characters? There is a distinct difference in a person playing a game for strategic reasons than those who play a game for storyline and the characters. Such disparate methods of gameplay draw different players to different threads with only the occasional overlap. While discussion of various characters are contained within their respective threads, discussions of strategy traverse multiple threads. A person looking to discuss their favorite character need find only one thread, a thread they can bookmark. To find strategy threads of interest, a poster must wade through at least a dozen different character threads to find various threads specific to strategy. It is frustrating, somewhat disheartening, and posters interested in discussing strategy have expressed less desire to maintain the discussions.

Please consider the separation of the strategy discussion from the characters discussion again. And thank you.

For those who agree with this sentiment, feel free to respond to this thread and I will continue to add names to the original post. If we can show the moderators we are not such a small minority (I hope), perhaps there will be a change.

I agree. I no longer pay as much attention to this section as I used to because the strategy, which I found interesting, tends to be lost.

I agree. The character threads need their own forum/subforum. They are great discussions most of the time, but whatever else that is in this forum tends to get lost with them being on the first page. They need a subforum.

I could see the possibility for cohabitation for the first few months, but now that there are Emiliy Wong Support threads, this simply isnt working.

Moving the character threads in here got me to actually start reading the strategy threads. But now I find it difficult to find the strategy threads. Ah irony...

Have a separate sub-forum for storyline, one for characters in the game, and one for strategy and game mechanics.

Guys like me who want to see how everyone's gonna use the new Firepower weapons for each class is gonna have a harder time finding them. Thus, you can add my name, in hopes that they'll separate the two.

They created a bunch of subforums a couple of weeks ago. I don't understand why they didn't create a subforum for ME2 characters while they were at it, since this has been adressed before.

I've also messaged mods when I saw the Warhammer forums that I felt those forums got the concept of subforums right. I'd like to see all the forums follow suit.

Agreed. Character support threads are fine and dandy but they really do need their own subforum, if only to reduce clutter in other unrelated message boards.

I'll sign too, and I'm one of those folks that frequents the character threads.



It just doesn't make any sense, characters, their backstory and other related things had something to do with the campaign and story, but nothing with the strategy and gameplay mechanics that were usually discussed in these boards.

I didn't really mind that our threads were cluttering up the Campaign section, considering nothing of importance is going on there anyway (seriously, one of the stickies is a thread for supposedly funny motivational posters), but if we're bothering this section, I can wholeheartedly agree with a move to a new section.

Like Thundertactics, I also participate in the character support threads. It's just it doesn't seem to fit with all the strategy threads, it's an odd mix. I think they make more sense in the Campaign and Storyline forum, but with all the complaints there, I started advocating just a simple Characters forum. All the support and fan works in their own place.
