I think any kind of evil in the game will be of the siding with demons and ripping off peasants variety rather than infanticide and/or genocide.

They wish to conquer all of Thedas in an effort to "bring back the Maker", they've annihilated the Dales (leading the elves to their current state) and are responsible for the oppression and fear that mages receive.

While I'm not completely against the Chantry (most of my characters I play are devout), they could make due with being knocked down a few pegs.

You kinda have to be anti-chantry in DA2 don't you? Your sister (and possibly you) is an apostate mage after all.

Unless of course you're a bastard and could care less about family. *shrug*

Where did that come from?

Hawke (if a mage) and Bethany are fleeing to the Free Marshes, I doubt mages under the Templar's leash would be able to go far.

Right. So it came from fertile lands under those bushy hair. Keep'em on.

Right, we don't know for sure if Bethany and Mage!Hawke are apostates, but it doesn't seem that far-fetched to assume they will be at some point. Are they going to flee to the Free Marches, and then immediately report to the nearest Circle for confinement? If not, they are apostates.

I'll find the source for my claim. Hang on a second.

Here it is.

Bethany is a companion who is a mage and also Hawke's sister. [Gamestar (English translation)]

In DA the chantry is rather megalomanical. Waging war under the guise of a "Holy Exhaulted March" on anyone who goes against their beliefs or wishes? Putting people into an imprisonment or outright death over their birth (see: mages)? Granted this doesn't hold true for all thoes connected with the chantry, but they definitly have all the signs of a corrupt religious structure...feed em to the Arch Demon I say :P

Rather than physically destroy it, I'd like it if at some point we found proof that Andraste was just a very powerful mage, or that the Maker doesn't exist.

Yes. You have a point. Though in their POV, we'd be evil. Some people like Wynne...

Wynne wasn't actually very religious.

Yeah, I know. Though, she was quite judgemental if you see what I mean. Like, always pushing you to do the right things.

Or refusing to actually answer the questions you ask.

Me:"Do you have any proper advice?"
Wynne: "Never. You young ones always seem to know everything."
Me:"Ok, ****. I'm a ****ing 19 maybe 20 year old who's never stepped outside of that damned prison you like to call a haven sent to an Order I know jack nill about and to fight monsters that a whole ****ing army of veteran warriors can't handle. When I ask for advice, I don't want any of you passive aggressive bull****. I want advice. ****..."

I would so want to tak down the Chantry down a few pegs. Maybe complete annihaliate or expose the corupt templars, prove andraste was just a powerful BLOOD MAGE, and pretty much kick their arse. And I'm catholic.

Eh... The hypothesis that Andraste was actually a blood mage never occured to me, before... o_O

Andraste as a Blood Mage wouldn't surprise considering 2 things 1)that passage from the Chant is so vague it could mean anything and 2)I'm positive the vials used to track mages are some kind of blood magic.

I mean have you read the codex about her! I mean if they are real, it would be nigh impossible for an ordinary mage to do that! Seriously controlling the laws of nature and nearly beating the tevinter imperium with her powers. Seriously she did things that make your character look like nothing! and they are like god in awakening if played right.

I also thought about that, considering the blood drials. The Templars are quite shady...

You're actually right about this. She's like the Jesus of that world. So many things we don't understand about her, yet we can prove with "science" that she was something else. Thus, the cult of Andraste and the Chantry were made. Don't forget that they used blood magic in that small village where they kept the Sacred Ashes Mountains secret. The whole Chantry was built on lies. That's why burning it down would be orgasmic. LOL

Also raiding Val Royleaux (Is that how you spell it?) Chantry would be nice. Or just undermining chantry efforts in general will rule!

I wonder where is the central chantry of that world... Maybe Val Royaux like you said, but attacking the chantry by its core would make this thing huge! lol
