Also most of the story is in the same time period as Origins and Awakening, and I doubt the Qunari give up the advantage they have on the humans.

Gunpowder is a Qunari thing. They use it for their cannons.
The Human equivalent would be mages.

Sorry to rant but the question annoyed me.

As much as I love guns, thats a big NO, Dragon Age has absolutely nothing to do with guns. (Ok, Qunaris have cannons but thats it)

The first guns invented and used in combat in the late middle ages weren't Flintlock rifles, they were MATCHLOCK rifles! A burning match on a lever ignited the powder in the pan, not a flint. Big difference. (Christopher Columbus had soldiers with matchlock rifles, 1492)

Not rifles, muskets. Rifleing is an important difference in a firearm and not developed until late in the 17th centuary.

However, some very early firearms had a rifled (straight rifling) barrel, instead of spinning the projectile the rifling helped to collect the powder residue to avoid the barrel getting clogged.

This is absolutely false. If the writing team wants Dragon Age to parallel the real world (and this fact is unarguably true given the lore as we know it), then firearms will have to appear at some point given that gunpowder exists. It would be a breach of logic for this to not occur. The Woldan wrote...

All the more reason for the magically-impaired masses to arm themselves appropriately!

What is logical with a fantasy world to begin with though? Isn't a fantasy world whatever the creator wants it to be?

I guess Gunpowder Age. I was just trying to point out that Dragon Age timeline will not have it.

Yeah but those lands without tech in Dragon age have mages instead . . .Iscaredeath wrote...
Thats true, but my guess is that they will wait since gunpowder is one hell of a difference maker on the battle field. The concept they have now for battle would be obsolete if they introduce gunpowder. Look how it changed our history. Gunpowder allowed for mass conquest of lands that didn't have the technology.

Qunari LOST their war after winning a few battles. Reason? Magic. Fireballs require no metal, no gunpowder. Only men.
Edit: Ninja Gaidered.

Well, Qunari have gunpowder and cannons, they don't have any small arms. Sounds illogical?
My explanation; in 15th century guns weren't that useful, they were rather complex, prone to produce misfires in humid weather conditions, extremely slow to reload, production of gunpowder and high quality steel barrels is very complex , expensive and time consuming, firearms back then required lots of maintenance...and all this for a medium range ranged weapon with a low rate of fire.
A Crossbow and a bow might be less powerful but much more effective and flexible in battle conditions, AND they are more accurate than a smooth-bore matchlock musket. In the end crossbows and bows are low tech but more effective (at this stage of gun development), easy and cheap to manufacture, effective on the battlefield....
Maybe Qunari think guns have too many drawbacks and stick to low-tech weapons for the battlefield, they just use them only on their really big battleships against enemy fortifications and other battleships.
Intelligent men. Very hard to come by in Thedas.Qunari LOST their war after winning a few battles. Reason? Magic. Fireballs require no metal, no gunpowder. Only men.

Well, they won the war, so I guess they were sufficient in numbers
