Hence his point that all the 'Dungeons and Dragons' people prefer Mass Effect 1 is a weak one and insulting. If you've seen his other posts, he makes it a point to mock DnD players as a general rule. I took offense. Very simple.

Maybe this topic has been posted before but I had to say it for myself. While I enjoyed playing Mass Effect 2 and applaud Bioware for making it, the best thing I can say about it compared to the original  are the graphics.  The story,  the acting ,the music, the battles, the weapons and the exploration of planets were better and more fun in Mass Effect 1.  Even after playing ME1 for the fourth or fifth time listening to Vigil talk about the extinction of the Prothean race, dealing with Saren and Liara's mother and deciding to save the council still strike a deep emotional chord about the depth of the story and the characters.   ME1 was more like a game turned into a great movie you take part in while ME2 is more like a movie turned into a game(if that makes any sense).    There were more weapons, ammo types and unlimited ammo in ME1 and being a Vanguard was more fun. In ME2 when you finally get the choice to upgrade 1 weapon you can only upgrade the power and ammo count and after that its accuracy goes to hell(some upgrade). In ME1 exploring the planets was more fun and felt more like an open world to explore. In ME2  the battles and exploring planets felt more linear, like just following a path.  In ME2  Liara  (a major character and romance in ME1) was practically ignored almost cast aside(her new persona being a business woman). I know it's a game and I like Mass Effect 2 but I love Mass Effect 1.   I Hope Mass Effect 3 is more like the original with a really solid story and makes you feel great at the end just like ME1. I also hope I'm not the ony one who feels this way........

I think ME2 improved on a lot more than just the graphics, but that doesnt mean I dont think it screwed up far more than it improved. I really think the game suffered under an overzealous attempt to measure up to the shooter fanbase desires for the game and to try and be as mainstream as possible (the ridiculous dumbing down that took place).

Hopefully ME3 will be a big improvement by virtue of actually finishing the story being more important than disconnected shooter missions that have almost no lasting impact in terms of the main story arc.

I'm not quoting that long post, but +1.

ME2 has great cutscenes, great graphics, great characters like Garrus (being a vigilante made him over 9000 percent more badass), Tali, and Legion, but as a GAME (the part which matters most), ME1 is way better.

Whoever thought removing the whole inventory was a good idea because ME1 inventory was too bloated should be kicked in the teeth.

Whoever thought planet scanning minigame is a good idea must be 1. fired from BioWare 2. exiled to a deserted island. If you are tired/bored whilst playing a video game, you need to stop playing, step away from your game system, spend some time outside with your lover or your friends, not play a spastictacular minigame. Probe launched, probe away. Yiesssh, thank goodness for Coalesced.ini editing.

ME1 was good on the first playthrough. After that the game feels dead and stale. ME2 is awesome each time through. That's why for a game based on combat, combat mechanics are the most important element in design, despite what all the dungeons and dragons people will try to say.

I've only slammed DnD in one post actually, so ****** off.  I do however, quite often condemn the rampant idiocy from the majority of the populous, in their neverending attempts to sling underhanded insults at all those who prefer the more intense combative implementations of ME2 and shooters in general, as "dumbed down."  When in fact, it requires a much greater use of strategy and mental stimulation in that you are not only preemptively deciding your action flow, but forced to improvise as well.

So, jackass, was that enough big words for you?

I really enjoyed the focus on characters in me2. That is part of what made me1 great. In me2 they built on that further. I liked that, even if the greater story took a hit.

I can agree  with this, it did seem more about glitter than substance (very mainstream)., While the loyalty missions and the conversations between Joker and the ships AI were fun and entertaining ,the "story" was more about gathering squadmates + loyalties and scanning planets than anything else. The romance with Jack was very well done,Amanda is hot but I felt ripped off by not seeing much of Tali (after the suit & helmet were removed). In any case LIARA is my favorite romantic choice for Shepherd  over both games(hope she comes back in a much better way in ME 3).   ME 1 is more intimate = you learned more about a small group of squadmates and gained their trust {as the story and your decisions in it "unfolded " } making most of the action in the game revolve around the story - rather than doubling or tripling the squad size with" loyalty missions " as  the biggest part of the story.                                In ME 3 I think it would be a nice option to be able to pick just 5 squadmates  total from the previous games for the story that will be Mass Effect 3. It would also make additional play thu's of the game feel like almost a new game by picking different squad members for each play thru. (maybe too much work but it would be nice).:)

I liked ME1 but let's be honest about what it had:

5 fairly short main story missions. Other than that you get a load of empty worlds to explore with a room full of bad guys in each one, and here you just stand in the doorway and clear it all in a couple of minutes.

And that, my friends, is pretty much it. Any other 'depth' comes by way of dated RPG mechanics that involve a list full of garbage to be sold for cash you'll hardly use, or converted to piles of omni-gel you'll hardly use. That all turns out to be pointless because as soon as you get your team geared and skilled up to how you'd like them the game ends shortly afterwards anyway. Kind of felt futile to do all that item and skill progression fiddling for a short story-arc and a load of content were you were running around in the Mako anyway - and it was.

ME2 stripped out the pointless garbage and gave us a hell of a lot more meat on the bone in terms of actually interesting content. Sure, it's far from perfect and it meanders all over the place, but it's a huge improvement on the first one.

ME 2 has Martin Sheen

Martin Sheen is the greatest

No other game has Martin Sheen

therfor

ME 2 is the greatest game of all time

Anyway, here's my mini review (comparison) of ME2:

Disliked:
-No armor for squad mates
-Effects of ME1 choices (though every realist saw this coming, it's the same in every BioWare game)
-A few unexplained plot holes (they were much more in ME1, but were more apparent in ME2)
-Too many squad mates (by the time I recruited them all, I forgot about the ones I already have)
-Scanning (still, I'd rather scan a planet than go up 90 degrees hills just to get to an even more annoying minigame)
-Glitches
-No helmet toggle
-No skipping opening scene (still, it's better than ME1 where NO scenes were skippable)
-Box-art (worst ever)
-Very little armor parts
-Arnold Schwarzenegger (though not much worse than Zombie Cyborg Jumping Frog)

Liked:
-No mako
-Easier to manage equipment
-More cinematic
-More emotional
-Better written new interesting characters (ME1's squad mates were the most boring characters BioWare has ever made)
-Shepard speaks more often thus giving him more personality
-More Humor (than in ME1)
-Profanity (the more, the merrier I say)
-Better environments
-More atmospheric (Afterlife, Omega, Illium)
-Much better music (than  ME1's)
-Every weapon is different
-Biotics are awesome (unlike ME1)
-Better Powers
-Awesome combat
-New xp system
-Much better side quests
-Ammo
-Tougher decisions (thought still not tough enough, BioWare should take cues from The Witcher)
-Better easter eggs

I agree with the fact that the basic plot of ME2 was not quite good.
ME2 was "Gather the team", but the basic storyline was as a supplement to this.
Of course we can say that ME1 was "Go after Saren" but I have not been this Impressions.
In ME2 was no keys moment. In ME1 it was a conversation with the Sovereign on Virmire.
In ME2 were very dramatic moments but after the passage, I had mixed feelings, I could not affirmatively say that it is a masterpiece, but i can not say it is bad.
Despite the fact that in the final the whole team can die, in general can be said that Shepard won again, but i would like to see not only the victory.
Undoubtedly ME3 will few surprises, but Shepard necessarily will the win the Reapers.
Reapers Technologies accumulated over millions of years, but Shepard are relatively easy victory. It was impossible to save everyone in ME1 (Virmire), but in ME2 can destroy the all Collectors base station and no one in team will die, as in a fairy tale.
Plot ME2 would be better if this part of the Reaper won, and the fight would not seem so easy.
I believe that the basic plot ME2 worse than ME1, but some moments in ME2 cause me more impressions.

Look this, it is main questions for storyline ME3 social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/103/index/4424084/1

There was not really memorable music as a form the wreckage in ME1.
I think form the wreckage the best melody of the game.
music in ME1 for me was better than ME2.

The same happened to Mass Effect than what happened to Marvel Ultimate Alliance. A sequel should build on the old (In ME1's case, a great foundation), not remove stuff that could have been improved and fixed. That alone makes ME2 a huge letdown

When I heard ME's main goal and "innovation" is the save importing I thought Bioware knew exactly what they wanted. A coherent series. But apparently with these sudden changes Bioware makes more money and 3 nice (standalone) games, however as a series this is already a failure. I can't play through all the 3 games and think "this is so amazing and immersive +100 hour experience", ME2 made that sure already

I really don't understand why people keep bringing this up. Not only because it has been said 10,000x before, but because I really just don't see it.

ME1 did have the more epic storyline, I'll give it that. But saying that character development in ME1 was better? That's just freakin' nonsense. Everything about ME2 was improved as far as I am concerned. The character development and relationships, the acting was just as good or better, the combat was better, the weapons, while fewer in number, were more unique and differentiated from each other (even without all the thousands of upgrades). ME1 had exactly 1 pistol, 1 SG, 1 assault rifle, and 1 sniper rifle. They just came in different colors and with different numbers under them. The "exploration", if you could call it that in ME1, was pointless and tedious. In ME1, every planet was just a desolate rock with the same building or the same underground complex on it. In ME2, every planet has a unique atmosphere and feel, no mission is like any other. RPG elements? Well I don't know about you, but for me an RPG has to do with playing the part of a character who I help shape, and that has influence over the shape of other characters and the storyline.  Not being able to hoard hundreds of items I never use. I'm personally glad that the inventory went away -- I spend less time clearing all the trash out of my inventory and more time being propelled by the story.

For me, ME2 is better in virtually every way, shape, and form, including RPG elements and planetary exploration.
