Jacob's the squad member who benefits most from Firepower DLC, IMHO

Jack and Tali also benefit, Jack more than Tali, IMHO. Tali's drone has some usefulness against any enemy. Jack had to have the squad strip away enemy protection before her powerful shockwave came into effect. Now she's useful before somebody else does all that stripping. You can fully develop Jack's Warp Ammo, along with shockwave and her biotic fast recharge if you leave biotic pull completely undeveloped. This very powerful warp ammo with a better gun and ultra-quick recharge of her shockwave should make her very useful during attacks on Collectors.
Zaheed benefits from having the Mattock and so does Garrus, Legion and Samara. Grunt also benefits from the Mattock but is better off with the Claymore shotgun than the new Geth model, IMHO.
Miranda's benefit from the new pistol seems minimal to me since the Locust is her weapon of choice; Same with Kasumi and Mordin. Thane, of course, gets no benefit from the Firepower pack at all -- except that his squadmates are more effective.

Anyone who's had problems with suicidal shotgun squadmates notice the difference truly?

And yeah, the Tempest is better for squadmates because their AI has great aim with it.

If left to themselves, they do continue to rush forward. I call them back and also position them behind cover whenever possible. That pays off a lot more than it did before.
Edited P.S. They also start shooting effectively from a farther distance while on the move.

Actually running a little experiment with this playthrough: Shepard, Grunt, and Jacob all with their own Inferno Ammo for Horizon. After that, I look forward to testing Jack with Heavy Warp Ammo and Garrus with Tungsten Ammo. Since I'm a Soldier this playthrough, I have no need for squadmate ammo.
Also if any of you haven't before, recruit Grunt first sometime and bring him to recruit Mordin. He has a couple funny remarks.

Jacob became a mainstay in my Sentinel run, especially when you coupled the new shotty with his ammo and pull field.
Good thinking. Jacob is a great match for a Sentinel.
If only they'd release an update to disable defensive power use for the squadmate AI, then Jacob would be great. He is a lot better than he was with the Firepower DLC. But he's still unreliable due to the long recharge of Barrier, a skill he activates himself.

Your point is interesting, though, since I've always thought Jacob was under-rated.

I haven't run out of ammo for my Mantis in 5 missions in a row on hardcore yet.

I have found with the new shotgun, that a team of Tali and Jack with squad warp ammo simply owns nearly everything. ... Coupled with Warp Ammo, Area Energy Drain, or the Drone, this team with the Geth shotties generally means I never need to use any gun other than my sniper rifle. And that is only for the hard to reach enemies. Otherwise, it is only powers.

Same holds true on Insanity, maybe even moreso.
You have to be especially careful with Jack, whose programming makes her close the range even if there's a horde of enemies. However, I put her and Tali behind cover and absolutely ripped through the suicide mission.
(My Shep always takes Tali and Jack through the Collector base because Miranda's my second team leader. Jack doesn't want to take orders from Miranda, so she goes with me.)
My Shep had team Warp ammo already, so I gave Jack fully upgraded "super Warp" ammo. Then I switch my Revenant LMG between warp or inferno, depending on the target. My switching doesn't change Tali from "Team Warp" since I don't use team incendiary.
The Collectors, including Harbinger, didn't know what hit them. Barriers are the only protection for most of them. Once they lose that to Warp ammo, Jack knocked them off with Shockwave like she was a professional bowler. She recharges so fast if you do that "biotic" upgrade, too.
If Harbinger caused trouble, Tali would distract him with a drone while Jack and I killed every minion in sight. He had no bodies to "posess" by the time we got around to killing him.
We blasted such holes in Collector ranks anywhere we wanted that Shep often ran to open the valves for the specialist without even bothering to kill all the collectors behind him.
Warp ammo also made Jack effective against Scions. That was refreshing.
Easiest fight at the Reaper and with the Reaper I ever had.

Jacob's quite good until his bonus talent (Barrier) makes him all but useless as a reliable source for Pull.

Jacob always dies in his loyalty mission charging against the first wave of feral hunters... I don't even bother anymore.

As a Vanguard, I don't need his pull, I don't need his Incendiary Ammo(I have Inferno), I don't need his shotgun expertise, and I don't need his Barrier(since it only helps him).
The only squadmate I find more useless to me is Jack.
I pretty much only ever use Garrus, Tali, and Miranda. I branch out during the suicide mission, but that's due to circumstance.
Grunt and Legion for the Oculus, but only for the Widow/Claymore combination.
Jack is pretty much ignored all the way through, and Jacob is always assigned as the crew escort.

Have you ever had Mordin randomly die during Hold the Line then? His low survival odds make him the ideal squadmate to send back with the crew.
And yes, I can see how Jacob would be useless to a Vanguard. He works better with Sentinels and Adepts.

My favorites by far are Miranda and Mordin, however, regardless of which combination is the most powerful.
Miranda because of the buffs and Warp. Mordin because I find him the most amusing squadmate. His quotes during combat are also very fun. "Flammable. Or inflammable? Forget which. Doesn't matter!"

For my Sentinel I ran with Samara and Garrus who benefited from my squad warp ammo. It was the perfect blend of medium/long range shooting (which sentinel lacks), plus biotic synergy for my warp (from Samara, and she has reave!), and the helping overload from Garrus.
Honestly, I loved that squad
Although towards the end I started swapping Garrus out for Mordin once I had area neural shock.

I've also found that annoying. However, at least now he can fire more effectively with the Geth SG while that barrier protects him.
