I have a problem which means I simply cannot play the game past a very early point.
I complete the Origins story, go to Ostagar, and into the Korcari Wilds, return and go through the Joining, go to the War Council and then speak to Duncan about the task during the battle of lighting the torch on the Tower of Ishal.
At this point, I try to go onto the bridge to get to the Tower of Ishal - I believe some music is supposed to begin. Instead my game crashes to desktop.
When I restart the game and try to load the latest save for the character I was playing when it crashed, it comes up as loading (the animated loading screen), but simply never loads. I know this isn't just a long loading time, because I left it loading overnight and it was still at the loading screen when I woke up. From the loading screen, you cannot alt-tab, so the only way to close things down is to restart the computer. Even worse, it seems to corrupt ALL the save games for that character, and possibly existing characters too, so nothing will load.
I've now gone through this with two characters (I can create new characters and start afresh, no problems), reached the same point and had the exact same thing happen.
I've raised a ticket with EA support, but I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this problem too?
I'm playing the Steam UK Collector's Edition with all the DLC already installed.
This problem basically means I cannot play the game.

Try playing that save game after putting the gfx settings on low, and unchecking "Frame Buffer Effects" Want to see if you get past it.
What I'd really like is if you could zip up your save game and put it up for download somewhere so I could check it.

Hi, I tried doing as you suggested and put all the graphic settings to low and disabled the frame buffer effects - unfortunately, same result, it was simply stuck on the loading screen when I tried to load the save game and in the end I had to restart my PC.
I'm not sure how exactly to do what you ask with the save games - they seem to be in a folder called Characters, with subfolders for each character and then sub-subfolders, one of which is 'Saves' and then a further subdivision of folders such as 'Slot 1', etc. Do you just mean one of the 'Slot' save folders? I'm not sure how I'd give it to you in any case.
Thank you very much for taking the time to reply though... I'm thinking of just trying to reinstall the game and see if that fixes things. Though I'm a bit worried about issues with DLC after reinstalling.

Yah basically I'd want:
.xml (probably don't need this but just in case)
Slot_1 folder or whatever is the latest save slot that is causing the issue.
Zipped up or 7z'd, and put up on megaupload or rapidshare or something. It would at least tell us if it's a save game corruption or something else.

I'm not sure if I want to share my save games with the whole internet at the moment - if EA Support ask for it, fine. I do appreciate you trying to help though.
Going to try reinstalling and see if things get better. Or worse.
Thanks again.

I got this problems too.
Try lower graphic setting options (Set low to graphic details & texture, with no AA) and this will let you load your save sucessfully. If not, try to load another save that works (Maybe the save in wild) first and then load back the save in Ostagar.
But still your game will crash on the way to tower, keep saving as many as you can (There are 2 waves of battle on the way). Things will get normal after you get into tower.

I have a similar issue, except the game not only crashes, but causes the system to lose video signal and the rest of the system to become unresponsive. This happens right having completed the origin story and crossing the bridge into Ostagard.

(Slight spoilerish information)
Thank you both ChandlerL and raito265... I managed to load up an earlier save game (it didn't work with the save game immediately before the crash), and with the graphic settings set to low (also texture quality set to low and the resolution brought down to 1024X768, and the frame buffer effects turned off), the Tower of Ishal section didn't crash the game the moment I entered it. There were still, as warned, multiple crashes during play as I ran through it (usually when I tried to look out over the battle going on, so it may be worth looking dead ahead and avoiding looking at anything that requires your computer to draw lots of things or managing big explosions and flame effects, such as looking off the bridge at the battle going on below), but now I was able to save repeatedly as I worked my way through it, and have now completed it and am out the other side.
There were lots of graphical glitches and crashes, and it wasn't ideal having to play through what is clearly meant to be an awe-inspiring huge battle spectacle on settings that made all the efforts of the game-makers in vain - but at least I'm past it! I changed the settings back up once I was through it and now it seems to be working as it did before the Tower of Ishal.
For those who are having the same problem - I'd advise you to follow the help of the two who helped me in this thread... set your graphic settings to as low as you can, and possibly also the resolution, and then find an earlier save game to load (which should load on the lower settings). Save between each fight in the Tower of Ishal section. You may experience lots of graphical glitches and crashes, but now at least you should be able to load from the last save point as you work your way through. Once you've finished that section, you should be able to put the graphics settings up again.
I hope this helps anyone else with the same problem - and thanks to those who helped me again!
