I like the idea of the better weapons and armours being in the posession of the higher level antagonists.

What I really don't like is the idea of randomized drops, where one player can get a weapon but another can spend multiple playthroughs, reading up on what scenario is most likely to cause the drop, but still being frustrated.

I totally agree. Granted I do like games like that, I am the type of person to kill monsters over and over for drops in games, but having to spend so much time to do it is silly.

uhhhmm, so it makes sense to you that appearantly everywhere in the world are true swords and amours of epicness made of dragonbone (where do all the dragons come from??) and stuff? all enchanted by mages who lived centurys ago and now retrieved by one single person who propably is twenty years old running around searching for allies. i mean, come on, that doesnt make sense!

I suppose it makes sense as much as; Archdemeons, Greywardens, mages, dragons, darkspawn, giant spiders, golems, dwarfs, elves, witches, ogres, qunari, griffons, reavers, and all thinjgs that haunted you as a fantasy deprieved child.

WRONG. it would make as much sense as archdemons, greywardens and whatever if every friggin bandit would have some kind of epic equip. tough thats not the case, it doesn't make sense.

I really don't care much for the loot - I'd much rather loot money and buy from a merchant because I'm bound to start having inventory issues before too long.

What's annoying is when I mouse over a corpse and a companion runs behind my mouse.

"Never mind."

I thought DAO had too much loot. It's kind of meaningless when you're being served magical swords of awesomeness every half an hour. I would like it if there were 2, maybe 3, really good weapons in the entire game so when you get one it is actually awesome. Maybe that's just me?

DA didn't have nearly enough loot. I had to use some of the items you get in the beginning until late game. There was no loot variety, hardly any cool graphical effects associated with weapons/staves. Some people think here loot automatically has to be godly - which is wrong. Loot needs to be varied and interesting and can be used as a way to add replayability and customize your character.

old man: "i spent my life searching for the juggernaut armor, but i never found it"
warden: "you mean this?? i found rather randomwise when i was killing werewolfs in the brecilian forest. funny, i didn't even search for it. was just killing everything and moving every grave and in the end that was in my pocket. and you wasted your life searching it.. phew"
old man: commits suicide

You know, I wish they´d actually implement such an encounter.

I saw something in the wikia about the Blackblade Armour Set, namely that the boots and gloves could be acquired from a random encounter with a crow assassin, I spent far too long reloading and re-trying that encounter to no avail, I would really hate that kind farming to be a requirement for any item in DA2.

I thought it was looted off the High Dragon in the Dragonbone Wastes. I was suprised to find that the bloody dragon didn't give me one piece of loot.

I found this very annoying on X-box too, especially as my character was trying to keep both Morrigan and Leliana interested without triggering the make or break dialogue, I only wanted to open a sack to get a deep mushroom and I end up having to decide between the two women I had been dallying with, which I had been getting away with in camp due to Sten making a handy screen.

hmm, if someone actually wants to waste his time trying to get some kind of strange rare item by farming monsters, id say he propably should be allowed too. ok, it doesn't make any sense, is completely lore-inaccurate, but hey there are people out there who actually can be entertained with something like this for several hours. then give the item a description like "some epic weapon that was found by a bandit, no one knows how he got that one but it appears to be a rather interesting story that is explained in this dlc. BUY DLC NOW" and youll propably make extra money.

I'd like to see more of an emphasis on the whole being greater than the parts, such as armor and weapon sets that are significantly more powerful when combined into a set so that completing the set becomes a worth quest in itself.

Another element I'd like to see added is armor damage, repair and the ability for a armorer to upgrade armor. I think enchanters should do weapons and armorers should do armor.

More rare material and more options for what to create out of it.

A better defined commerce system with prices that vary according to conditions and supply/demand.

And actual training/tasks to earn a new specialization. Maybe even the ability to training into a secondary class from a bridge specialization - Mage - Complete tasks to become Arcane Warrior > Complete training to gain secondary class of Warrior gaining subset of talents.

And a Runesmith. Got tired of doing that myself in DAO:A

I remember when I read Michael Moorcock's "Stormbringer", ages ago.

Stormbringer might just be the most epic weapon ever conceived in any fantasy setting. A demon in the form of a sword, monstrously powerful, radiating darkness, feeding on the very life essence of those it struck, and passing it on to the wielder.

Sentient, greedy, cruel and jealous. Addictive and possesive.

As eager for the lives of the protagonist's friends and loved ones, as for the lives of his enemies.

Why is never something like THAT in a dark fantasy setting as DA:O claims to be? We don't need more loot. We need more truly unique items.. items that are used at a cost! Items that demands a price for what they offer, one way or another.

there is an old game book series called demonspawn that had a similar weapon, great weapon that was evil and nasty to the core

I could do with less loot as well, especially trash loot. That rusty old darkspawn dagger that is completely useless for example. Many games nowadays go the way to replace this trash collector loot with money loot, which is a good thing.

Loot is the least interesting bit in a RPG for me. I can't stand MMORPGs or the Diablo games because you never feel like a hero, you feel like a greedy scavenger when looting and picking up every little item that drop on the ground.

That's what I love about those games! The thought of going into some "untouched" ruin or cavern and smacking spiders for the sweet, sweet, gemstones they hide inside. It fills me with glee. I can't wait for Diablo 3 to hit the stores. That way I can start the madness all over again. <3

After reading the posts to this thread I have to wonder where all this "epic" loot is? Sure there were a lot of items with little extras on them or a slot or two, but there were very, very few weapons that served a good overall purpose and weren't extremely specialized. What upset me was that it seemed like all the best weapon items came out of one place *cough* Orzammar.

Diligence was decent, Effort was useless, Juggernaut is awesome (and don't tell me that one didn't require some work), Legion was ok. It seemed to me that the very best items (outside of swords) could be purchased. And I'm ok with that as long as I can afford those items with what I'm picking up from enemies and chests. That's kind of hard to do when you are only finding trash items. I'd like to see more high end loot in chests that require some kind of skill and a consistent drop rate for other items from boss fights.

BTW...When you encounter said old guy who hassles you over the Juggernaut armor with the spiel that he spent his whole life looking for it, you come to find out that when the Revenent popped out of the ground with all his undead friends said old guy ran for his life, leaving his whole expedition or friends to die.

Well, i wouldn't buy this game anymore if they'd downgrade item progression to the level of Mass Effect 2.

They are already trying to build a fantasy Mass Effect out of Dragon Age 2, because you'll be unable to play any other race than a human. I can live with that, but i'll miss being able to play a dwarf myself.

I'm 100 percent sure that i won't Preorder it anymore. I want to see what community pages write about DA2 before i even think about buying the game.
