The hip curve starts roughly on one level with elbows so that seems about right. Legs may feel weird though because the thigh in humans tend to be as long or even longer than the lower leg, and they're quite shorter on that sketch not to mention uneven. But that's probably just sketch being a sketch rather than intended feature, wouldn't pay much attention to it.KLUME777 wrote...
I know these are early concept art, they mostly look great (especially the female Qunari!), but what about the human female? To me, her hips are like, down too low, and her legs just look....wierd. Shes still sexy though. I dont know.

This is hilarious on so many levels. I mean, it seems like they are going through with the idea for the male counterparts as they have, you know, different builds. Muscular, standard, slim, and paunchy. Okay, that's cool and interesting. Helps define your species and, to an extent, manifest their psychology in a readily apparent form. Basic fantasy stuff here, but always solid...Distinct racial physiology is an opprotunity to explore different standards of beauty
Then there is the woman. Apparently 'different standards of beauty' (how tippie-tow diplomatic is that?) for women is just code for athletic hourglass... four times. Wow, verily these are distinct species and cultures, with obviously unique ideals of womanhood. ...of course!
...Honestly though, I am warming to the new direction the art is taking, I just found a few things amusing.

The human and elven female looked too similar, not to mention too close to one another in height. (for that matter, weren't the Qunari a bit short?) The dwarven female actually had a good solid body structure that said "ready for making babies".

Considering the camp never changed location in the entire game, this probably happened.

The human and the elf females look pretty close (the human does looks a bit broader) - but the qunari looks distinctly more muscular and lean, and the dwarf looks more pudgy and squat.
I know they're different races, but it might be worth noting that for human females, in real life, to get from the human physique (in that pic) to the qunari's would take a fair bit of work in the gym, I believe (due to having a lot less testosterone than men). Having said that, I'm a guy, but I do weight training, so know a bit about this.

The differences between elf and human were so miniscule I didn't even bother mentioning it. Yeah one is a bit broader, because otherwise they'd be exactly the same. I'm hoping they go with something at least a bit more inspired. Otherwise I'll have to rely on dialogue to remember what species I am. Also if the elf is so lean what is with the out of proportion breasts? Yeah this is an old as dirt gripe but still - make them uniformly slim or make them normal, otherwise it just looks weird.
The Qunari bugs me for a few reasons. First: I'd personally like to see her have a bit more muscle mass. The male is hulked out like a freaking gorilla on steroids, and yet the best the female can muster is no bulk and all tone? If they were going for 'different standards of beauty' they kind of missed a very, very obvious opportunity with
this one. That is more something I'd envision for the elf (which, [surprise!] would also aid in differentiating the human and elf females, too). Second: the horns. The male has noticeable bone growths on his forehead leading into them, while the female has no such formations and they are just sprouting out slightly further up the scalp with no alterations to the skull to accommodate for these boney growths. Why? Are they digging into her brain? Well, at least her hair looks good. Besides, we all know Klingon/Tiefling foreheads DO NOT move product!
The dwarf is the closest I can see to them following through on the idea, but as it is just another hourglass that has a normal build instead of slim (pudgy is a stretch, a long stretch) I immediately lost interest. I think it is the marked difference between say, a male elf and male dwarf is just not reflected -at all- in the women, at least in this early artwork. This is directly in opposition to the statement made at the bottom of the very same piece of art, hence the humor. It is pretty subtle irony, likely only humorous to an extreme closet-cynic. *cough*
Another, less funny, way of looking at it: They spent a lot of time making the males different, but then phoned it in on the females, as though women are fully capable of finding an array of body types attractive, but men? Nah, there
is one ideal shape for women, and it happens to be in line with the 18-27 demographic. Coincidence? I don't think any of us are so dense

Regarding the strange chin tattoo, maybe the people of Thedas worship beards almost as much as we forumites do.

While I agree that the female beauty standard isn't varied, I don't think the male beauty standard is particularly varied. We've got short hot guy, tall hot guy, and steroid guy. With the females we have hot amazon, generic hot model, potentially petite model.
The only visual difference you have are with the dwarves, who are stereotypically pudgy.

Also, you'd be surprised at how strong a person can be without having large muscles (some train for strength rather than hypertrophy). Of course people usually don't appreciate these things unless they train so, given the audience, I can understand the rationale behind wanting a more obvious difference.
I suppose the female dwarf isn't really pudgy, her top half looks normal, but then her waist is missing, and... okay she's a dwarf, clearly we can't apply human standards to her. Btw, when I say "normal" or "pudgy" I'm going roughly by medical standards, rather than what most people (in the UK at least) go by.

The thing is, I don't see them making the males all that different. We have well proportioned beefcake, steroid ridden beefcake with horns, and mucled runner. They're all the same base of athletic, handsome man. You don't see fat, balding overweight male humans or elves, do you?
The males are different. They are all toned and well muscled, yes (handsomeness and age are more the domain of a face editor), but that does not change the fact they have distinct, different body shapes. Heavily muscled, standard (albeit muscled), and slim. Just becase they are ripped doesn't change the fact a stranger could pick out each one as a silhouette with a bit of knowledge on each species, something noticeably lacking from the female samples.
And about the balding fat men argument... where did that even come from? I don't think anyone has made that argument and, as mentioned above, character models outside the racial base are just resource sinks.

'Hotness' is irrelevant, also you even say half the sampling (steroid guy and pudgey dwarf) are not traditionally hot (again, this is what that caption at the bottom was going for), so i do not see where this viewpoint is coming from or going at all. Plus, some of the the hotness is coming from faces (except the human female ~durrr~) cut those off and just concentrate on the discernable characteristics (or lack thereof) on each body. The men have far more distinct features than the women. That's boring, and really, really funny given the 'exploring different standards of beauty' spiel at the bottom.
As for the females, the thing that gets my goat is that they are all athletic hourglasses. Even the supposedly pudgey dwarf falls into this category, just less track and more field. Why? There is more than one body shape for women, and the men are all distinct, showing they have no qualms about employing different shapes, even ones tradtionally viewed as unappealing. Why not throw in a 'bananna', apple, or pear in there somewhere. (rhetorical, we all know why)
Just slim the elf down more, beef up the qunari a lot, muscle up the standard women a bit to further seperate her from the elf, and make the dwarf a triangle upward/pear or something to keep with the 'child bearing' look as others have mentioned. Bam now you're cooking with gas. Now people could look at a line up and say 'well duh, that is the body of an elf!'
BUT! I don't mind, even if I do find it stupid. My main point was it is ironic given the caption at the bottom that the women all cater to the same taste while the men appeal to a swathe of tastes. I'm not advocating this is a major issue, but if it were magically changed... well, I would do a happy jig.
