Gonna go out on a limb and guess forbidden magic is anything you do without being commanded to by your handler.

This would be the correct answer. The Qunari view saarebas as if they were poisonous snakes. They keep them around: You need a snake's venom to make antivenom, and you need mages to fight magic. But they never believe for a second that the saarebas are anything but a threat to themselves and to innocent people.

But what happens if the mage gets tired of being a slave, rebels and kills the handler and flees? Do the Qunari have something similar to phylactery for tracking them down?

that's where their special brand of gun powder mixed with the food comes into place XD

try making a fireball now :P

I meant for the mage-handlers.

A female qunari who had abandoned the Qun could do as she wished.

This sounds like a rather interesting character to bring along as she'd be able to offer a new perspective on the Qunari.

Something reminiscent of Shar-Teel, perhaps?

Mr. Gaider, wouldn't a struggling military force use ALL available resources if a war proves very difficult to win? (Qunari lost at least one war.)
As example, Russia in WWII pressed female soldiers into service, they absolutely had to boost the total number of soldiers because of the massive losses early in the war.
The Qunari seem to be very determined if it comes to fight and win wars, wouldn't they use all available resources to be victorious? Wouldn't they recruit and train female Qunari to become warriors if the total number of male warriors isn't enough to ensure a victory?
Sounds like a better option than losing a war, especially for such an extremely ambitious race like the Qunari.
I bet male Qunari warriors wouldn't mind fighting alongside female warriors, still a better option than getting obliterated by enemy forces and losing a war.
Its just basic military tactics, if your army struggles to win just throw everything and everyone into combat! Image IPB

Again with a guess: for the handlers it would be contextual. On the battlefield, probably nothing would be forbidden if it was hitting the enemy and not your own army (or otherwise causing collateral damage). I have no idea what the Qunari think of blood magic but as they view ALL magic as dangerous and distasteful maybe blood magic to them is no better or worse, and therefore they use it as a tool to achieve their ends, the same as normal magic.

It would probably be like an officer with a police dog (or a service weapon). Obviously, using the dog for anything other than police work would be bad. But if you're chasing down a fleeing criminal the dog can pretty much do whatever to find the fugitive and it'd be acceptable.

The Qunari don't view their military this way. For them, this suggestion would be like saying, "You're not getting enough protein in your diet, eat your own arms."

I don't know, Mary, the redesigned Qunari do have pretty beefy nutritious arms. :P

Maybe the qunari should stop symbolizing their society as a person and more like a sea cucumber. Then they could vomit out their internal organs if need be, to deter a predator. :P

Woldan,

Some things are to be done. Others are not to be done. Do not complicate things both simple and obvious with pointless and disruptive questioning. Wisdom, station, and order flow from the Qun. Follow the Qun, excell at your station in life, and you will not want for purpose or honor throughout your alloted years.

so...what do qun'ari resort to when they have a huge disadvantage in numbers and resources. do they make a tactical reatreat, a last stand or do they surrender(highly unlikely)?.

It's called a Vindaloo, and can likely lead to friendly fire.

Reading all this makes me wonder why Sten even followed a Grey Warden, especially a female, and mage ...

Just wondering if it changes anything about Sten when he returns and tells stories about the female Mage that restored his honor (found a lost blade in a country at war etc.), united a divided nation and gathered elven and dwarven allies to finally slew an Archdemon and is also his 'kadan'. That's probably more than any Qunari ever achieved. Shouldn't that give him and some other Qunari something to think about? I mean all that from what they would call dangerous animal ... who missed her destiny etc.

Given the concept art for the look of female Qunari, are we likely to see a female Qunari fighter?, I use the word fighter rather than warrior as Sten stated there were no female Qunari warriors, perhaps this is a question of semantics in Qunari society and by warrior Sten means a sword wielding tank type, rather than an absence of any melee capable ladies?.

The Female Qunari in the concept art certainly looks capable of causing damage compared to the other races.

Looks like a draenei space goat imo :)
