I assume female qunari can be "fighters" but not warriors. If you bring Sten to Redcliffe, he will comment on how pathetic it is to have people hiding in the chantry and that had they been qunari everyone would have been fighting. What I got from Sten is that women would not be in his place (going off to fight darkspawn and answer a question about the blight) but if you attacked a tamassran (sp) she would not hesitate to beat you up.

Well females don't get trained as warriors, I don't see why they should be forbidden to train but then help to defend their homes. I mean, the Qun as such is riduculous anyway, but still ...

One thing I have noticed on this forum is that the writers love to talk about the qunari. I see that as a good thing, and hopefully it is suggestive of future content. :)

Female Qunari warriors can either be female or warriors.

Not both.

Well, the way the writers are talking they're implying that, no, they can't. A woman who tries to be a warrior isn't a woman; but she isn't of the Qun, either.

That's the impression I got, at least.

I took it like the Qun never assigned the females as Warriors.

Not really, considering how female is a position in the society.

It'd be more accurate to say that female Qunari warriors could be either Qunari or warriors. Not both.

Well, if you weren't female, it wouldn't be a problem in the first place. The first statement being an oxymoron.

Well. There you have it folks.

If you're a female Qunari and you want to be a warrior then you officially get "kicked out" of the species.

Like when Alfalfa got kicked out of the he-man woman haters club in The Little Rascals.

What do you people not understand? If a female follows the Qun, she'll be raised and trained to do something appropriate for her sex. Serving as a professional warrior is not a career option for their females.

If a horde of darkspawn was threatening to breach the walls and level their city, females of fighting age would be pressed into military service as necessary. The Qun mandates that its female followers observe their proper station in life, but it does not demand that they commit suicide by refusing to pick up a spear when the [excrement] is hitting the fan.

I'm sure its been brought up before but what exactly does the name Qunari actually denote? Are you considered a Qunari if you are simply a follower of the Qun? So would a human in Rivain that follows the Qun be technically considered a Qunari?

Or are you only a Qunari if you have the whole 8 foot tall, horned giant thing going on?

I guess what I'm saying is, if the Qunari name is simply affixed to anyone who follows the Qun, what were the race of really tall, horny beings called before the Qun?

"Qunari" literally translates to, "People of the Qun." To the Qunari, a human or an elf who follows the Qun is a Qunari. It's only the people outside the Qun who think "Qunari" means "8 foot tall, horned giant."

But when a human or elf is involved in the Qun, do the leaders (I forget the term) also decide who mates with who? Would the Qunari involve cross-breeding between the elven / human / dwarven / qunari (if possible) followers?

By Qunari, yes. They have no reason to call themselves anything else.

So did the "8 foot tall, horned giant" race have a history or culture of their own before the Qun? How long has the Qun been around- before Andraste and the Old Gods or what?

Or is that all a big secret?=]

Interesting, so if say an Elf became a devoted follower of the Qun they could become an accepted member within the Qunari society if they so choose?

If they belong to the Qun, then absolutely, the Tamassrans handle who mates with whom and raise their children. They don't cross-breed races with other races.

They were Qunari before they arrived to Thedas. They wouldn't say how long last time.

If we get a female Qunari I hope she's like the Merchant in Awakenings and has turned her back on the Qun. I do not want the cliché "I will prove myself as a Female Warrior so the Qunari change the Qun!" cause that cliché has been done to death. It were two instances of this in Origins as well, the Silent Sisters and one of Lelianas stories made that point, we don't need a third.

So are we talking eugenics within the Qun?

EDIT: If so I welcome the challenge of such radical philosophies, that with any luck we can challenge, if only through dialogue.

Do Qunari breed mages? Trying to produce a finer breed of attack dog that is less likely to pose a threat to it's handlers, or do they simply wait for them to pop-up in the population at random before sticking a leash on them and cutting out their tongues?

Also given that Sten's comments in game about "Elf Magic" do the Qunari differentiate between Bas mages? Do they see the difference between a Tevinter Magister, a Dalish Keeper, and "regular" Circle Mages, do they know about the Rite of Tranquility? I ask because Sten seems to hate mages but then when you confront him about being a mage he simply says it's "different" because you kept your honor

PS: Sorry for being a bit rambly.
