A few days ago I started to have a problem in ME2. On a character that was near the end, saving the game through the options no longer works. It says that it's saving the game, however a save file never appeared. Quick saving and autosaving still worked fine.

However, now I try creating new characters, and I can't save. At all. No matter if it's quick saving, auto saving, or creating a new save through the options, it confirms and comes up with the "Game Saved" icon, however the saves never appear in the 'Load Game' menu. It never even saves once, meaning I have to keep starting a new character whenever I exit.

I've checked the 'save' folder in My Documents and it is managing to create a new folder for my new character's saves. However, the folder's empty whenever I look in it, no matter how many times I try to save in game.

How could I go about fixing this? Mass Effect 2's been working for months without issue. It's a Steam digital special edition, and I really don't want to reinstall it as I'm on a fairly low bandwidth connection, it'd take days to reinstall. I've already tried verifying the integrity of the game cache twice, it's fully defragmented as well.

I'm on Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, if it makes any difference.

Thanks in advance.

There's a 50 saves per toon cap limit, you may need to move some of your saves out of the folder/delete them. (Yes even on PC, it's a stupid idea and I hate it.) Although reading your post again that save cap maybe only affected your original problem and not the new toons. I had a similar problem with the game when I first got it, my imported toons would save fine but the game couldn't find the saves because it wasn't creating a folder for them. The work around for that was simply to create a folder with toons name and it worked fine. However that doesn't seem to be the issue here.

Also, on steam you can simply move the game files out of the steamapps folder to fool it in to thinking you deleted them then copy paste them back into it and it works fine. Before you do that run the file verification from the properties menu which checks your files against the server's version then downloads/replaces any that it finds missing/damaged.

Edit: Try a windows search for your saves, it may be that they're getting saved to the wrong location.

The saves limit definitely wasn't the issue with my first toon as it was only on its 19th save when it wouldn't save a main file any longer. It's not saving them in the wrong location, just ran a search for the save files.

I just find it extremely strange that it's creating the save file for the toon without a problem, it just won't put any save files into it. Looks like I might not have a choice but to reinstall it. Still, better than not being able to save at all, I guess.

The thing with removing and replacing the files is that if there's a problem in the files themselves, then it wouldn't fix it would it? I've already verified the game's files twice and it's come up fine. I've got no clue what's up with it.

Does anyone else have any idea what could be the problem?
