Today I read Kotaku, it is very lazy with writing. It says one thing and Bioware man says another. Very confusing.

"For budgetary reasons, we focused our work on a 3rd person view, that asks for very detailed and nice textures so that the player can admire the game with a close-up view. With an aerial view [isometric] we shouldcover much more ground and so create other textures. Now, the game mainly sold on console, so we're going the way of the audience".

Word for word exactly what the article says? True yes, Did Dragon Age mainly sell on consoles, no more CRPG back to roots, Mass Effect screw pc audience, big green devil dollars? Correct yes or badly translated foreign article?

From the screenshots, the textures don't look good at all, this doesn't make sense, they still look like something from a last gen or very old game. I was playing "Mafia" today a game from 2002, textures about the same, open city game.

Here's some numbers...

Total Sales

http://www.gamasutra...llion_Units.php

Approx. Console Sales

http://www.vgchartz....s=50&sort=Total

So based on that, consoles were about 80% of sales.

Meh, if they do upgrade the existing toolset for DA2 (As Mike Laidlaw has mentioned) I'll probably pick up a pc copy of the game when I buy my 360 version.

Exactly. Also, it is not fair to lump all consoles together versus pc. A more fair comparison would be Xbox vs. PS3 vs. PC. In that context, the pc more than held its own.

Title says sold, article says shipped. They very stupid.

I think texture was bullcrap talk. Make easyer fit on console because console made of weak.
Crysis have much more going on in bigger enviroment with far longer draw distance, texture superior.

Bioware let us down for wall street dollars, this is console game, I say from start without back to future and people throw dog dirt and bad name call, now proven right as predicted before game even announced. Not pc game, pc port trying to cover up console mentality. Dragon Effect.

Tried to find other articles that clarifies this, other's say "sold-in." So you maybe right. Either way, when the head developer says that DAO sold mostly on consoles, I take him at his word.

Ouch. While I am primarily a console player, I did pick up DA:O for the pc (rpg's are always better when using a keyboard). However, if they change the formula too much, I may have to pick up the Xbox version instead of the pc. Of course I will need to see comparisons first. If not for the superior controls, the pc version of DA:O clearly had better graphics than its console brethren.

Hopefully the gameplay changes are not too drastic.

Of course it sold better on consoles. Laidlaw's got no reason to lie about that.

It's obvious it sold better on consoles. If it sold better on PC, they wouldn't have made the decisions they have made, they're clearly tailoring it more towards consoles. Which I find odd - if anything, didn't DA's great console sales prove that there's a respectable audience for 'classic' RPGs on consoles? So why make it less classic and more streamlined action? Console owners have a huge amount of great alternatives if they're looking for fast action only...

Indeed. I play games only on my 360, and RPG wise, I enjoyed Dragon Age far more than I did Mass Effect/Mass Effect 2. That's not to say I didn't enjoy those games per say, but I preferred the feel of Dragon Age more. Felt more like an RPG that I could effect rather than a stream-lined game that hid behind some - admittedly rather good - side quests and occasional character conversations.

The romances in ME2, however, made me hesitant to talk to characters due to the Mass Attraction everyone seemed to have towards Shepard.

If the design philosophy and zot allocation varied between console and PC, it most certainly does. The game played very different on PC. If that was a game very few people saw, and instead the majority saw the 360 and PS3 game, it makes sense from a business standpoint to allocate resources there.

Once you identify the console as your major market over the PC, you have to ask yourself what features made DA succesful. Insofar as doing market research is concerned, what you are looking at is breaking down which features the majority liked and hated.

If your feedback was (for example), silent-VO sucked and combat was badly implemented, but the story was brilliant and Bioware sold me on name recognition, then you would see the changes we are. Now, I am not saying this is the case, just  that if you like a game does not mean you like every design element of the game.
