If you do not own the ToB expansion pack, you will not be able to get them. If you have ToB installed, the soon you reach the level your specific class needs for HLAs (High Level Abilites), you can choose them as extra spells (possible for Paladins, Clerics, Druids (Devas), Sorcerers and Mages (Planetars)).

Which level would you get these HLAs?

3 million XP on the character (total, both classes addded together if they're dual/multi)

Which would be level 18 for Paladins, level 22 for Clerics, level 15 for Druids and level 18 for Mages and Sorcerers.

Almost right

3million XP on Single class
3million XP combined on Multiclass
3million XP on the 2nd class for Dualclass--for dualclass characters your first class doesn't count.

The Planetar (which is what your mage will have access to at lvl 18) is the best summon in the game too. Sounds like a real beast. I've played around with a Deva, which is what a cleric gets, and even though they're a good bit weaker than the Planetar, they're still quite vicious.

There's a whole slew of high-level abilities (HLA's) your mage will have access to once you reach lvl 18, not to mention all the other lvl 9 spells available.

..I'm not sure, but I think Sunnis is the best summon you can get, from Greater Elemental Summoning. And he looks best too.

Sunnis only lasts 10 rounds. Besides a planetar's impressive saves/immunities(immune to death spell, for example - Sunnis is not), requiring +3 to even hurt them , they also have a huge amount of spells they can cast to boot, in addition to their good melee. Have your mages cast project image, then all the planetars they can summon (project image ignores the normal 1 celestial limit at a time), and watch this planetar army lay waste to everything in the game.

It depends. Sunnis is my favourite but simply because i think he looks just awesome ! Sometimes i actualy let him fight that elemental prince Ogremoch at Sendeis enclave. Dont think he would win, but maybe to make things interesting since Ogremoch ( damn those elemental princes have cool names, Ogremoch, Sunnis, dang ! ) has a couple of earth elementals with him, why dont i summon some aswell !
But to be serious. As far as pure melee goes, sunnis will win offcourse due to his stoneskin and higher health. Not sure if he can recast stoneskin once it goes down. On the other hand planetar ( and possibly deva, not sure ) has that instant cast health on self when health is low, soo that is powerfull ( not as much as sunnis high health and stoneskin though ).
But as far as usefullness goes, Planetar is the king. First of all, that sword will kill many enemies instantly and the summon will remain longer then Planetar. Being able to cast all those good spells ( earthquake from Sunnis isnt really usefull i think.. ) is a huge help. Just imagine micro-ing, your planetar is atacking and once every round you make him cast a spell. That greatly improves his awesomness !
The conclusion ? Why have only one. Have both of them !

A Deva can 'Raise' dead, 'Dispel' buffs, kill undead with one hit (SCS?) and most importantly it will fit inside of a 'Chain Contingency' but yes the level 9 planetar will eat it alive in mano-o-mano combat.

p.s. 'BB' helps when it is up but normally the planetar is better since you only have one or the other in play at a time.

I never thought about that dispel on hit. This might be better in some situations then Planetars kill effect since many enemies are immune to that but i dont think many are immune to dispel on hit.

Btw is it always better to choose the good one and not the bad one ( dark and fallen...any other reason exept spells that affect evil creatures that you tend to dish out and that good variant is slightly stronger. Anything good on the side of evil ones ? )
