Playing Mass Effect for the first time, with an infiltrator.  So I get the data chip or whatever back from the monkeys, and then a horde of geth attack.  I'm in a dead end with nowhere to run.  Within maybe 5-10 seconds (if that long), if that, Ashley and Wrex are screaming "shields down" and we're all dead.  If I pop a shot or two off with my pistal, I'm blasted out of existence almost instantly.  Their abilities are listed as "blocked."  I have absolutely NO clue as to how to win this.  We don't even stand a chance.  I can't stay behind cover forever, and if I pop out, I'm hit by a hail of fire and killed so fast I'm lucky if I get one or two useless pistol pops off, even in medium armor, which I don't think is so bad for an infiltrator.  It happens so fast sometimes that I can't even figure out what just happened, other than that Shepard yells "shields down" and then falls.  This is an insane difficulty curve, but still, there has to be an answer.  I've never had any such problems with 1st person shooters before.  What's the solution?

Plus all the great tech explosives to overheat, and destroy, but Immunity is the king of all.



What level are you and what gear do you have?

Unless you're trying for an achievement, lower the difficulty. What level are are you at and how do you have your character's and team mate's skill points distributed?   Check out your inventory to see if you have any better armor, guns, mods and the like.  If you have any ap or tungsten ammo use them.  Do you have your spectre talent upgraded to have unity, if you do use Wrex and Ash ruthlessly.  The fight isn't over as long as Shep is alive.  Use your medigel.

You might try having Wrex and Ash hold position in the room where you get the part and then moving out Shep just far enough to trigger the encounter and fall back into the cave with Wrex and Ash. That way the geth may come down the tunnell one at a time, placing you under less fire.

Use any and all abilities, immunity, sabotage, overload.

You seriously need tali or garrus there for the tech abilities. AI hacking would be useful, or Liara with a singularity to get a bunch of them off their feet to give you smoe breathing space.

As an infiltrator he/she didnt need garrus.Tali with ai-hacking could help,but the best would be to take a "heavy biotic"
like kaidan,or like mentioned by you,liara. Wrex is alright in every team.

For the op:
So the tactics should go like this(at best put powers on defense only):
Stay in the room where the ape has the data pad.When geth come in,use sabotage to prevent them to firing at you.
If geth destroyers come for charging,use wrex crowd control abilities.For destroyers,throw must be advanced(at least on insanity difficulty). Use damping if you had it.That helps too.After that,there are only 3 snipers left. Again,sabotage their weapons and kill them.
The best thing would be to restart the mission and to replace ashley with liara or kaidan.

With Ashley, Wrex and an Infiltrator, you should all have immunity, thus you all pop it and then wade out into the fray and slaughter them, repopping immunity anytime it expires. This fight isn't hard with this crew if you can do this. This is an extremely powerful group just because of all the medium/heavy armor plus immunity all but makes you invincible.
