From the description, Ruthless is less about throwing people at it, and more about getting the job done with limited resources. You could argue that War Hero didn't sacrifice anyone, but then WH held a defensive posture at a choke point, and Pressly mentions that the pirates were neither skilled nor equipped anywhere near as well as Alliance forces. And being a Spectre means going places and doing things, not waiting until enemies come to your well-fortified position.

Another interesting dynamic is that Ruthless' Renegade bonus actually means you can use Paragon more often and still keep a balanced character - and to me that makes more sense than being mostly Renegade War Hero (unless you're playing a cocky ****** of course).

Three combitantion feels the best (although I've used all combinations possible with my Shepards).

I'll keep it short:

Spacer / Ruthless : Because he was growing up under discipline both of his parents being in the army. If he would stay too disciplined, he wouldn't be "enough" to do the dirty part of job. That's why the Ruthless military past helps. Disciplined, yet willing to do what's necessary to complete the mission. Yeah, he's absolutely the mission comes first - guy.

Colonist / Sole Survivor: Because he lost both his parents and his squad. He learned to look out for danger, learned that no one, never is safe. That's why he looks out for his people, friend, comrades and beloveds. An oath to not let anyone be lost again.

Earthborn / War Hero: Learned how the world works in dark places at a very young age. But he was willing to change, to become something more, eventually he realized that in a group that relies more on each other than themselves... well, it worths more. Ever since the Elysium, he follows this idea.

Interesting that I did not really see anyone on this topic put up *Spacer/Sole Survivor*

I pretty much roleplayed my Sentinel-Shep to be someone that came from a military family that was a little more easy going than most. His biotics were always relatively weak, but he was tech savvy and ended up studying as a Field Medic/Technician. On his first real assignment out of the academy his team was attacked by the Threshers on Akuze, the trauma of seeing his team dying unlocked his hidden potential and boosted his biotics to a point he had not previously been able to accomplish which was one of the sole reasons for his survival.

I mostly play him the way I would do things IRL, so mostly he is a good guy, tries to do the right thing including trying to talk Saren into joining him against the Reapers to restore his honor as well as trying to end most encounters peacefully or at least with minimal casualties. But at the same time he has his dark side; like letting Toombes kill the scientist or shooting Balak and leaving him to bleed out as well as leading Garrus in a direction that is a little more morally grey (killing Dr. Saleon and agreeing whole-heartedly with killing Sidonis)

Basically a Paragade, mostly Paragon but with his own little Renegade moments.

I put a lot of thought into this Shep obviously as he is my "canon" Shep.

Spacer War Hero. Even though I hate that background since it's so "generic superman."
