It's hard to compare them because ME2 has about double the amount of squad mates. The only characters I miss from ME1 are Wrex and Ashley, I'd also put Garrus if he weren't in ME2.

Also, you might want to make your post a little neater.

...seriously.

Also, the ME 2 crew would eat ME 1 for breakfast. They have more characters for example.

ME1 crew, if pressed.

Choosing between the two crews seems arbitrary, though, given that the ME2 crew is twice the size, and that there's overlap.

Eeeeeh. ME1 has the God of all characters in Wrex, and semi-interesting characters in Liara & Ashley. However it has snorefests in Kaidan, and even Garrus and Tali to an extent.

ME2 has the Second God of all characters in Mordin, but it also has a snorefest in Jacob. That being said, Garrus and Tali are much more interesting/well done in ME2, and the remaining cast is at least somewhat interesting.

Really, Wrex is the only character making this difficult. Without him, ME2 would win by a mile.

Wrex shrugs off rockets to the face while I hide behind him like a scared little puppy. I think as far as usefulness goes, ME1 crew had raw power will ME2 crew had utility. While ME1 Tali could snipe with a shotgun, ME2 Tali instead can hack synthetic enemies for example.

I think I'll take ME1 crew with ME2 Shepard.

If I could choose my nine:

1. Ashley

2. Thane

2. Wrex

3. Mordin

4. Miranda

5. Jacob

6. Jack

7. Liara

8. Legion *

9. Garrus *

Honestly I hope they give us at least two new characters, also ME2 characters were sooo much more interesting imo.

1. Garrus Vakarian

2. Urdnot Grunt

3. Urdnot Wrex

4. Legion

5. Jack

6. Liara T'Soni

7. Samara

8. Tali'Zorah vas Neema

9. Kaidan Alenko

That's what I would do if I needed to choose nine. Of the two crews, I much prefer the second game's crew for its greater versatility.

Oh man ME2 crew all the way hands down. The only character I miss from ME1 is Wrex.

Ash, Kaiden and Liara were all bland and boring. Wrex on the other hand was completely badass and I miss him. Tali and Garrus returned and I love that they did. So yes, ME2 crew > ME1 crew

ME2 definitely. The only squadmate I -really- want is Garrus. And I'd do practically anything to avoid Liara.

I prefer the ME2 crew, but only if you include Garrus and Tali as ME2. If they weren't included I'd side with ME1 crew, even though I'd miss a lot of the ME2 folks, :(

My nine if I could choose would be:

1. Garrus Vakarian

2. Ashley Williams

3. Jack

4. Mordin Solus

5. Grunt

6. Tali'zorah

7. Legion

8. Miranda

9. Samara

Funny how almost two thirds of the list is filled with women. I guess I just didn't really like any of the guys as much, especially the human guys. If I had to pick I'd say Zaeed was my favorite human male squaddie, and I don't even care for him much. :P Joker doesn't count, he's awesome.

ME1 crew. I prefer the crew thats better integrated into the plot. Not the one where the acquisition of them IS the plot. Somehow picking up hired goons and doing favours for them doesnt appeal to me as much as the ME1 crew did.

And I wont even get into that whole "loyalty missions mostly consist of shooting over character building" business.

How exactly were Garus and Tali integrated into the plot after the Citadel? Or Wrex other than on Virmire?
Loyalty and recruiment missions like Garus', Thane's and Tali's had ten times more character building than anything offered by the party members in ME1.

I think there is a very important distinction to make between these two groups of people, in that the first was collected as each had a special significance to the plot of the game and played an important role in the establishment of the Mass Effect Universe.

As opposed to the crew of the second game, where about 3 crew members have significance to the overarching story line and the game universe at large.

The rest of those people (something like 9 of them) are bought or recruited only to add another warm body to throw at your foes, and pad out the game's length which was fairly short anyways. Ultimately the fact that they had to bring along their own baggage and missions to carry out the game while carting no real significance to the story of the reapers and the galaxy.

Anyways, chosing 9 for myself:

Liara

Garrus

Zaieed

Legion

Kaiden

Wrex

Miri

eh... thats close enough to nine right?.. meh, i can't say I care about the rest because they have zero significance to the plot of either game and nothing to do with the reapers vs galaxy thing going on.

I sort of get the feeling of this being a "who would you have in your ME3 squad" question if we don't choose either/or. Still a toughy though. In no particular order of preference:

Garrus: just because he's cool and is a nice contrast to a paragon Shepard.

Tali: story-wise consideration if the Geth/Quarian thing plays out. Plus she's cute.

Jack: power consideration as she's supposed to be created to be a powerful biotic (though gameplay mechanics sort of restricts what she can do).

Legion: again like Tali a story consideration.

Mordin: one of the most fascinating characters in an ethical sense. Plus, want to see if he will sing some more.

The Virmire survivor (Ash/Kaidan): simply because at the reunion on Horizon they really should have trusted Shepard after everything they went through in ME1, and knowing the Council/Alliance were dismissing the threat they experienced firsthand, even if it's just so Shepard can say "told you so" to them.

Wrex: fire power and biotics. He's hard. He took down a thresher maw!

Grunt: can't really see him leaving his battle master, Shepard, so soon and so much more fighting left to do.

Wildcard: undecided...probably between Liara and Miranda though. Story-wise I can see Samara still being part of the crew.

Generally found the ME2 crew to be more interesting than the ME1 crew, but maybe that's because there was more of them. The only character I didn't consider was Kasumi, because her recruitment just feels out of place even though she said something like "I'm surprised they didn't try to find me earlier." It's hard for me to see why she undertook the suicide mission in ME2. Zaeed, being a merc, did it for credits assuming he survived and that gives him motivation.
