I just love how people compare cost to coffee.
By the same analogy, the full game is "only" a week worth of coffee, a brand new console is "only" a month worth of coffee. I do think one need to post more "responsibly" with a BioWare Tag, or else use a different profile if you really want to express your opinion, the Tag "respresent" BioWare.

Quick Answer:  Not worth it.  It's good, but not worth it. On the other hand, I would have pay $10 for the stone prisoner, that's how much I think Shale worth, too bad it's free already.

Long Answer: (May contain spoiler)
Like others said, it's ~ 1 hour of content. and that include clicking "everything", reading "all" the codex entry, plus I think I spent 5 minutes deciding whether to drink that ******.

The description on the sites is misleading, it is "no where" close to a base of operation. It adds 1 chest (which you can get via free add-on), and 2 merchants (more like 1 only, cause they sell stuff from different category).  All these are "outside" of the keep, and you can not even re-enter the keep after it's supposedly "cleaned" up. You don't feel that you own the keep. If you're thinking along the line of the castle in Neverwinter Nights 2. It's not remotely close.

It's not bad but it's poor value in comparison to the full game.

I think it's worth it, but most of the criticism is valid - especially the $7 USD (the latte comparison is not valid) and not being able to go back in the keep. Calling it a "Base of Operations" is a bit of a stretch, but forgivable.

Overall, I enjoyed it and would recommend it.

to all who find it not worth it 7 measly dollars: try to find someone who can build the assets, design the level, write the script. If you don't like to pay, try building it yourself.

I wish I hadn't bought.  The story is okay and some nice choices but I was hoping for a base of operations, aka a place I run not a place where a guy and his brothers hang out and charge me for stuff.

Also the mod that puts the chest in your camp is way better then the chest in WK as the chest in WK is very very much out of the way.

One hour? I probably spent 2-3 hours at Normal difficulty level. But I'm the kind of player who prefers to read and explore everything. I try to complete all the subplots, and I'd rather try to read all the journals, books, etc. than try to finish the game as soon as possible.

The Warden's Keep was well worth the money, I think. It's not only a matter of how long it takes to complete it, but I think the extra information it offers adds depth to the game and the story.

2-3 hours? I did the same thing and it came nowhere close to 3 hours.  It may have been in the neighborhood of possibly an hour and a half or two...maybe.  I didn't hate it by any means but truthfully it was probably a tad overpriced, but I'm not going to quibble over the fact it probably should have been around $5 rather than $7.

My only complaints are unless something changes it comes across as being unfinished to me and the fact that you can't even enter the keep again after you complete it.  The keep thing I suppose isn't a real big deal since  being able to enter back in there would be more for immersion purposes really than anything else although there may be some that may have missed a codex or two that reentry would allow them to find those.

As to the apparent unfinished portion, unless I'm mistaken and a messenger comes to visit me really soon, is rather incredibly lame.

If you're living paycheck to paycheck I would say skip it.  If you have some extra cash to burn I say check it out because while it isn't anything grand it is at least entertaining and does add some value, about a latte's worth >_>

...even though it is unfinished :P

Yeah, I spent almost 2.5 hours in the keep. But I'm the type who spend most of my time during battles in paused mode. Like you, I also read the codex entries, which added nicely to the story. I liked the loot and the other stuff which I got after the quest was finished. Oh, and the story of course. Well done cut scenes etc.

Story was good but short and people must be really slow readers to take 2.5 hours in that place.

7 bucks? I can't see a 90 minute movie at a theater for 7 bucks. I did get about 2-3 hours of a pretty interesting story from Warden's Keep though.

A dev kindly put out a mod that will give you free camp storage.

A waste of money to some is value to others. Many people would think me mad spending 7 dollars for coffee one morning. DO I spend 7 dollars for coffee every day? no. We get free coffee at work, but sometimes i want a nice flavored latte as a treat.

Is 7 dollars worth the lore you get, the extra in game bonuses and the side quest? It's up to you. It certainly doesn't distract from the game not having it.  And Bioware has been so open, that you can easily mod in items you thought were missing, or get a dev crated FREE storage chest.

I made a comment about returning coffee, because to consume something willingly, with full knowledge of what the product was, then say it was a ripoff, isn't a good argument to make. You can easily read reviews on DLC and see if it is up your alley.

It was my decision to spend 7 dollars on latte's, when i could wait to get it free at work without the extra flavour.

it is yours to spend 7 dollars on extra content, or wait for free mods that add in stuff you would like, without maybe the extra polish of the bio ware label.

Edit: woah weird editing bug

Ah, but nobody said it was a rifoff. Most people agree it was some good 1~2 hour of gameplay. And people weren't given the "full knowledge" at the beginning, that's why the OP started this thread to acquire those knowledge.

Fact 1: The lore, keep, and character is interesting, and for the duration of the DLC it is enjoyable.
Fact 2: The entire DLC can be finish in < 2 hours for average gamers
Fact 3: You get 1 chest + 2 merchant at the end.
Fact 4: You can not re-enter the keep.
Fact 5: Since you can not enter the keep, using it as "base of operation" is not viable.

Whether or not $7 is worth it to anyone, is up to them. But the whole "base of operation" is misleading to put it nicely, and down-right false advertisement to put it harshly.

7$ isn't much, but imo it's pushing the boundaries of dlc price, given the content lasted for about an hour. It's not much compared to the whole game that can last up to 100 hours. 5$ would've been a good price.

I just finished the quest now, and was a bit disappointed it was finished so fast. I would've like it to be more like what Watcher's Keep was in BGII. Now that would've been worth 7$. Alas, it fell short.

Yeah, think I'm gonna pass. I already have the (more conveniently place) chest in my camp. It's the principal of the thing for me. Of course I have the $7, but handing it over for an hour of gameplay and a location you can't even return to? Pass, for now at least. There will be some pretty outstanding *free* mods out in a few months.

In a addon called Wardens Keep, you should actually get a keep

well technically you can retun to it and use it as a base of operations, you just can't wander aroudn the keep aimlessly.. but who knows maybe someone will mod it and make it into something more.

good thing about dragon age, everything that is released is modable, and thus can be upgraded endlessly by the community.

So i would say you are buying an experience for 7 dollars, in addition to the potential for much more from the community.

I thought it was worth it. The whole quest wasn't very long but oddly enough I don't feel ripped off. At best the DLC gives you 2 armour sets, a slew of weapons, new lore and codex entries, 2 spells for each class, a permanent storage chest, 2 vendors with one having some decent stuff for sale and some cool cut-scenes and battle scenarios. I have gotten far, far worse for 7 bucks.

Surely if $7 bought only 10 minutes of coffee DA:O should have cost $2,520?

But wait! $140 buys me a new pair of shoes that will last me months. Hmm.. whats going on here?

I considered it to be $7 well spent. I enjoyed the content on my first play through and I intend to enjoy it again on my next.

Trail running shoes. Point is it makes little sense to compare a product found in one industry to the product of another industry.

I love Bioware and ALL of there games, but come on lets do the math here. The full game costs $49.99, and it has round 60+ hours of gameplay in one playthrough, double that if you take you time and read/do EVERYTHING.

so thats $7 for round 2 hours of game play = $3.50 per hour

OR

$50.00 for MORE then 60 hours = 83 cents a hour, half of that if it takes you double the time, and if you HAVE to do all you can on 1 playthrough = 42 cents per hour.

(we will use the 60 hour playthrough. (im at 30 hours now and only like 18% complete)

Conclusion = NOT WORTH $7 !!!

And I dont even have it.

I was really comparing it to spending some change on a "treat" type consumable. Yes you bought DA, yes i think it is worth the retail price.

Now do you want to add to that experience and treat yourself, or do you think spending the same amount of money on something else is more worth it? I wouldn't relate coffee to muti-million muti-year releases.... but i think it's a fair analogy for micro transactions. Micro transactions inherent worth are in the buyers eyes. There is no rough industry standard like you see in retail game release pricing.

Shale was free, Wardens keep was 7 dollars. Oblivions horse Armour was 2.50. My coffee was 7 :P

err, i think i lost the point i was trying to make, please ignore me and petition Priestly to strip my Bio tag.
