One hour? I probably spent 2-3 hours at Normal difficulty level. But I'm the kind of player who prefers to read and explore everything. I try to complete all the subplots, and I'd rather try to read all the journals, books, etc. than try to finish the game as soon as possible.

The Warden's Keep was well worth the money, I think. It's not only a matter of how long it takes to complete it, but I think the extra information it offers adds depth to the game and the story.

Are you serious man? What did you do, watch your characters idle animation? I am playing through on the "hard" difficulty and I too read every last piece of codex and lore as well as the sub quests and it took me 45 minutes. You have to be exaggerating or you just read incredibly slow.

I was really comparing it to spending some change on a "treat" type consumable. Yes you bought DA, yes i think it is worth the retail price.

Now do you want to add to that experience and treat yourself, or do you think spending the same amount of money on something else is more worth it? I wouldn't relate coffee to muti-million muti-year releases.... but i think it's a fair analogy for micro transactions. Micro transactions inherent worth are in the buyers eyes. There is no rough industry standard like you see in retail game release pricing.

Shale was free, Wardens keep was 7 dollars. Oblivions horse Armour was 2.50. My coffee was 7 :P watching a rep act a fool priceless

err, i think i lost the point i was trying to make, please ignore me and petition Priestly to strip my Bio tag.

Fixed (someone needed to)

Is 7 dollars worth the lore you get, the extra in game bonuses and the side quest? It's up to you. It certainly doesn't distract from the game not having it.  And Bioware has been so open, that you can easily mod in items you thought were missing, or get a dev crated FREE storage chest.

exactly... its only 7$ but u complain at it was so much money...

BioWare give u toolset to modife what ever u want... try make mod like WK and give it for free... we will se if u will be happy for this... a lot of work done with graphics...animation...sounds. Try make it and then complain about the price of it...

it was said here that u can read before purchase a DLC so u know wat u buying... if u didnt read its ur problem...

well technically you can retun to it and use it as a base of operations, you just can't wander aroudn the keep aimlessly.. but who knows maybe someone will mod it and make it into something more.

good thing about dragon age, everything that is released is modable, and thus can be upgraded endlessly by the community.

So i would say you are buying an experience for 7 dollars, in addition to the potential for much more from the community.

Modding a DLC has always been a bit of a grey area legally, so its nice to know where Bioware stand on this.
It is often a cool way to get new meshes and models in to the game too, i always thought it was a real shame when those new items could not be used in mods.

I felt it was ok... it would have been great if there was some form of a story after re-taking the Keep where I was forced to escape or run away after being wounded in a battle and ambushed or something... and there would be another battle to repel the invaders from the keep.

Honestly though Andrew, do you think this is turning out well from a marketing stand point?  People are not saying its badly produced, but rather the price is steep for the content provided.  Wouldn't it be better to sell many more units at $3.00 and have people come back for future DLC than to sell a lesser initial number of units at $7, have a significant portion of the buyers feel let down and then only be able to sell future DLC to the people who are either die hard fans or are wealthy enough not to care?

There are signs throughout the Warden's Keep that the programers actually intended for the content to be larger.  The cave system is skipped despite the camp dialogs suggesting it would be a facet of the DLC.  Several floors of the second keep are inaccessable and several doors are sealed inexplicably (for a keep that looks even at the start to be in fine condition).

I kinda expected the keep to be like the one from NWN2. That I would have to pour money into it and then it would have some cool benefits. I'm kinda hoping that they come back to it (for free I hope) and finish up the Avernus storyline. It just ending...doesn't make much sense...

But its worth the buy since you can return to it with multiple characters. I pay roughly 7 dollars for a movie, which is about 1 hour 30 minutes right? So this is worth it when you consider you get good armor that lasts throughout the game, some abilities, and the ability to replay it on a new character. Still shoulda been like 3 - 5 dollars.

2-3 hours? I did the same thing and it came nowhere close to 3 hours.  It may have been in the neighborhood of possibly an hour and a half or two...maybe.

Like I said, I think this depends heavily on how you play the game. I also like to take my time in battle and I pause very often. I prefer to keep a lot of manual control (battle "optimization") and I try to win every battle with as few injuries as possible. This takes longer time of course (and means that I have to reload more often), but for me it's part of the fun. And if it took up to 2 hours for you and at least 2 hours for me then the difference isn't necessarily that big after all :)

Well, I'm not a slow reader so that can't be it ;) It was one of my very first locations so my group wasn't that strong. Many of the opponents weren't easy to beat and I lacked experience with the game. And as I've mentioned before, I prefer to take my time in battle.

If you finished everything in just 45 minutes then your playing style seem to be faster than most people here (unless you're exaggerating). You also claim that you even managed to do this on hard level. I presume your group had earned higher levels (and that you'd been playing the game for a while) when you started on this location, because it was certainly not easy for my fresh group, even at normal level.

I'm considering peeing them both up and returning them for a refund

They lasted longer than 10 minutes I'm sure, at least a few hours until you had to pee.

I would say its worth it if you want the sweet items that you get, namely the staff and the armor. Additionally you get the best sword in the game, your own personal stash WHICH IS HUGELY HELPFUL, 2 unique abilities and some other stuff. Otherwise it ends fairly quickly and doesn't really impact the game much beyond the items you get.

Yes.

I would definitely buy more DLC like this. Pricepoint wise i think they are experimenting. I think the price for similar content will be a little bit lower in the future.

Btw, since i live in EURO land i paid E6,51 = 9.74538 USD for this.

I don't really know of it was worth it or not. The bloody thing has vanished from my map. I'd been to soldiers peak and left, so its installed correctly, but now its gone. Nary a puff of smoke!

I thought it was worth it. Gives me a place to store my little "trophy" items, and the trader sells great armor for really cheap. Plus there's the skills you get from it.

Heres my take on it.

It depends on how much you value money.

I spend £5 on a magazine thats an hr max entertainment.

I spend £5 on a burger king meal thats gone in 10minutes

I spend £5 on a dvd 1-2 hours

I spend £7 on a book 3-4 hours

I spend £30 on a game thats 5hours long

Per entertainment value I'd say if its good quality then 5 quid isnt that much to part with. But yeh compared to a full RPG its nothing but RPGs are actually rly good money per hour entertained.

No, it is not worth it. I regret I bought it.

As much as I love the game I feel scammed by spending almost 7 euros on this. I was hoping for at least one evening of game play, instead I got something about one hour...If I had known it is so short I would have skipped it, but I was too much impressed by the game itself to actually ask for the game-time of this DLC.

No DLC will ever be "worth it" if people insist on comparing it with the price of the full retail release game.

In an apples to apples argument using a full game comparison, $0.60 would be the proper price...

I think we can all agree that it would be absolutely absurd to demand this price point.

Was it worth it to me? yes it was. it was not overly priced & it was a very cool quest that did add to my gaming experience.

Thanks to everyone who took the time to reply in this topic.

I wont be buying Wardens Keep as I feel the fact it gets locked when you complete it to be a waste. Additionally, tbh one hour of content at this point in my game progress would just be a distraction.

I dont use community mods as they inherently change the game balance and the game loses quite a bit of flavour.

If they patched WK to make it a TRUE CAMP w/ better items at the merchant... all would be forgiven.

Calling it a "base of operations" is flat out false advertising.

I thought it was too short to be honest. And I was left with a quest unfinished, because once the main part is over you can't get back in the building.......thing was I was under the impression when I bought it that...it kind of works like Oblivion, once you clear out the baddies the place is yours, with lots of places to store stuff, but nope ..not how it works.

Same here, I have a playstyple similar to yours and it took me about 3-4 hours on normal. I also spent like 10 minutes looking at the view from the bridge between the towers lol.. as well as saving the game before one of the important character decisions and playing through both scenarios :)

As far as value for your money, I would say get it.. the only thing that I am mad about is that I didnt finish the "Ancient History" quest, intending to come back later to do it. But now I cant get back inside.. no warning about this either. So I feel ripped off that I didnt get the uber armor/weapon reward that people are talking aboutImage IPB
