Hey folks, here is a good one for you.

I have created a model of a building and it shows up in the level editor ok. Looks fine, scale is right, textures are fine etc. But...  When I try to generate pathfinding or lightmap, the editor tells me the asset is missing. :(

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

I've never actually made a prop model from scratch, just retextured ones from the game.  But here goes...

Pathfinding is handled by the .phy file, I think, which you probably have, but maybe some of your references are messed up somehwere.  And lightmapping needs a type of file called a .met.

Take a look at this thread for lightmapping:

This thread has another explanation:

If you have any questions, ask and I'll help however I can.

if you are doing your modeling work within max use eshme's animation tools. these are also for exporting models and do the meta files for you. meta are used for proper lighting and i think that's the asset you are missing. also be sure to create collision boxes.

if you are modeling with another app then i don't know if your exporting tools handle meta files well. but i do believe that you could write them by yourself. in the end they're simple txt files telling the engine what to do. if you want to examine them extract a sample from the arttools.erf found in da:o_install_folder/packages/core/data_tools.

digging through the threads talisander posted will also help to understand what's missing and how you could work around that problem ;)

Thanks guys. I used this exporter for Max. http://social.bioware.com/project/563/ but it seems to miss out the .phy and .met files.

Ill try the new one that you suggested now.
