Wow, the Zevran thread is still alive! Although it looks mightily short, did the other one get locked?

And to all, I FINALLY finished a playthrough with all the mods that correct speech at the gatescene......SOOO Much better. I had to keep reloading .....

Afternoon all, and I love the picture....*sigh* How I wish I could draw like that.

Yeah, it got locked for length (and a bit of OT-ness) a few months ago.

I just got so pissy watching my husband play Awakenings that it kind of killed my thrill for Origins.

So I finally picked up my Dalish Alistair hate game and finished it....like 6 months after I started it I think.....

/peeks in! *wave* Jaulen and Verly!

Hmmmm, very very quiet in here these days :(

Edit: Ok, this was a very lame bump :)  I just haven't been playing the game.  However, I did load up a dalish to see Techwench's wedding mod -- very VERY beautiful and worth seeing!

Isn't it though? I can't wait for the city elf version I have a hard time RPing Dalish elves my lyrium addict was I think the exception., I loaded up an old save to watch her hitch herself to Zev and it was indeed beautiful even if it id have the same old music from the Ali wedding I saw the new update with the new music and was so torn, I really want to install the new version with the new music but I can't see going through all that hassle only to redownload and uninstall/reinstall when the city elf version comes out.

So very quiet lately indeed :(   Welcome back, though, Jaulen and Verly!  :3

Hmm, I'd better get this submitted properly before tomorrow, so:

My entry is a bit lengthy (give me a bigger time limit and I'll run with it...), so I'll just link it here: Aim

Time Limit: No more than 3 hours

This is a prequel to something I wrote weeks ago after Redcliffe...I truly hope I do not wake later to find one single word typed over and over.

Time: 1 hour
Prompt Count: 1
The Blockade

Alistair strode with definite purpose out of camp searching for Ewan. He was certain that the mage had taken to hiding outside of camp after his disastrous decision earlier that day. Ewan had abruptly ended their heated conversation earlier, but Alistair was determined to continue it; determined to let the accursed mage know exactly what he thought of him.

"Bloody mage" swore Alistair under his breath as he spotted Ewan's refuge. His grin widened over clenched teeth as he rounded the last tree bordering the outskirts of their small encampment.

Alistair was startled as a dagger shot out from behind the tree pushed lightly into his neck.

"You have gone far enough" Zevran stated in a matter of fact tone, moving slowly out from behind the tree as he dragged the tip of the blade down Alistair's neck.

"Going to finish the job, are we?" asked Alistair, bravado quickly fading as he contemplated the assassin standing in front of him.

"This?" Asked Zevran lifting his dagger into view. "This was just to get your attention...I presume I have it. Yes?"

"What do you want Zevran?" growled Alistair.

"You do not need to disturb the warden any further this evening, I suggest you turn around...now." Zevran lifted the dagger pointing towards the fire to make his suggestion all the more clear.

"No.You were there...you saw...you know what he did!" stammered Alistair as he tried to push past Zevran's shoulder only to be pushed roughly back.

"Yes. I was present, as were we all." hissed Zevran "Do you actually believe these actions do not weigh heavily upon our Warden?"

"Huh" Alistair snorted. "Our Warden?...what makes you think..."

Alistair was abruptly cut off as Zevran's dagger pressed again into his throat, leaning into Alistair, his face only inches away as his voice dropped dangerously low.

"What would you have done my dear Alistair?" Zevran spat as he pressed the dagger against the fragile skin. "Would you have sacrificed the village? Or perhaps sacrificed us? Go back to camp. Now"

Alistair heard the tremor and threat in Zevran's voice making the suggestion of returning to camp all the more reasonable. Looking once more in Ewan’s direction, Alistair lifted his hand as he moved to speak. "He..."

"Now." seethed Zevran as he pressed further.

"This is not over." Alistair protested as he turned to leave.

"Yes, my dear Alistair...it is." A smirk adorning Zevran’s bronzed features as he slipped the dagger back into it’s sheath.

Ensuring that Alistair had indeed returned to camp Zevran moved closer towards Ewan; staying silent to observe the warden’s mood.

Zevran grinned widely a few moments later as Ewan’s smooth voice broke through the still air. "For an assassin you are very noisy."

Edit: Random issues with format.

Sorry I've been so MIA here.

I was just playing my Dalish again (Who I never finished! XD ), and I noticed Zevran doing it again... If we're fighting near enough by each other, Zevran will randomly turn and hit my PC's enemy real fast and turn back to his own. Seriously... I completely customized his tactics, but he still does it from time to time.

On an aside, I completely screwed up the Landsmeet. I forgot that I hadn't hardened Alistair in Dristin's playthrough, because frankly as cut-throat has he can be when necessary, he still believes in loyalty and family... I hate how the only way to harden Alistair is to be completely cynical. But I also hate un-hardened Alistair. OMG. Unhardened Alistair is just embarrassing at the Landsmeet. >_> He's making jack-ass sarcastic comments during all this serious business, and I'm totally re-thinking making him king... or even being seen in his company. Ugh. And jeez... My Dalish Elf thinks what Loghain did to the elves and to so many of Ferelden's troops is completely unforgivable, but even he was moved by Loghain's last words to Anora and everything. I think I have more compassion for dignified and noble villains than blundering immature undignified good guys.

Oh, and I had to have Zevran fight Loghain because my poor Dristen apparently isn't the bad ass I thought I'd built him to be. Dristen was pitiful against Loghain. Zevran did really well, dodging and lacerating and everything. It probably helped that I gave him the Felon's Coat as well. I need to figure out what I did wrong with Dristen. He usually hold his own so well in normal battles but Loghain just hacked him to bits. I think I should have held on to the Ancient Elven Armor. It used to atract too much attention to him, though. Hell, Dristen was my first Warden, and I think I might just completely re-play him starting from an early save.

Hmmm... I don't remember if this post had a point. I have a headache and am frustrated over the Landsmeet. Leave it to Dristen to unlock 'Rabble Rouser'. Poor ****er screws everything up. XD with how many times we had to backtrack for elfroot, you'd think we'd be running into the Archdemon along the way. His playthrough is very messy. Oh, and persuade only started working for him towards the end... Even though I focused on it early, he used to always fail persuade checks as well as intimidation checks. Poor guy couldn't get anyone to take him seriously until right around Landsmeet. WTF.

I have such a soft spot for him, but I think I'm going to just play my newer files for awhile.

*edit*  Not trying to pick on Alistair too much, but really, I had to find SOME beleavable excuse as to why we don't get to conscribe Jowan.  I figured while the PC likely understands conscription, the PC only knows what little Dunkan said before he died, and of course, what Alistair tells you through his Alistair filter that Alistairfies the Grey Warden's duty into some fery tail about good triumphing over evil.  I figure it would be easy to be bullied without even realising it, when the only other Warden is more knowlegable than you, and under the influence of a pushy Arl who you're all depending on to stop a civil war.  This is the result of that.*edit*

Prologue:

Astor had thought, perhaps foolishly, that with the curing of an Arl and a growing threat from the Blight, such a petty matter as an attempted poisoning would be trivial. It was a failed attempt after all. He’d held out hope for hope’s sake that he’d be able to free his childhood friend. And when that hope was dashed, he broached the subject of conscription to deaf ears. His friend was week, his friend was vile, his friend was untrustworthy, his friend must pay. It had been more than Astor could argue with, having never had authority in his life. He’d done the only thing he thought he could do… he let Jowan decide… and he decided he wanted it to end. Astor didn’t know how he could live with himself, with the memory of his friend.

He did not bother to wash the blood from his hands… he just needed to be alone with the knowledge of what he had done. He hadn’t told the others. Except for Zevran… he needed to know HOW to do it… And now he did not know what to do with himself. His only fellow warden would not understand this, and for someone who insisted on not leading, Alistair sure had a lot to say about Wardens, about what they should and should not do. And all Astor could do now was regret his lack of assertion, that he ever trusted Alistaire’s talk of their duty. That he ever let Alistair convince him to CARE about a Warden’s ‘noble duty’. He wasn’t sure how he would face his companions, and their reactions… or what he might do.

---

Zevran was not accustomed to men like Astor. Full of passion and wrath fit for demons, yet so shockingly sensitive and fragile. And a blood mage no less. He had only been able to instruct Astor on how to make the killing wound quick, and less painful. He was not used to matters of killing being quite so personal… of tutoring being quite so grim. It stirred emotions in him he knew better than to indulge, as he watched his friend’s heart breaking. Surely this strange blood mage made Grey Warden would not have survived a day of the real Crow training, his heart braking with every pupil who fails, he’d never make it to his first mark. And here he is, put in charge of ending a Blight.

Somehow it made Zevran want to protect him all the more. It seemed almost perverse. But that someone like this exists in the world just… begs questions to be asked. Truly terrifying questions.

The would be Templar had found out, of course. Everyone had. Zevran had told them, disregarding weather or not it was his to tell. Better to demystify the sudden disappearance of their almost-leader, than have them give him no rest. Someone has to be decisive in this oh-so merry band of misfits.

Most had fallen silent, but Alistair ranted and raved like a Templar in withdrawal, to anyone who might listen, and when no one seemed too keen, he just kept going, as if to himself.

“We couldn’t have conscribed a known Maleficar…! We truly couldn’t. The position of Grey Wardens in Ferelden right now is bad enough… If people knew we conscribed a Blood Mage who tried to poison an Arl… There’s some things even a Grey Warden is just NOT supposed to do…” Alistair ranted.

Someone had to say something, surely.

“Mmm… My dear Alistair, if you were not conscribed… you would have become a real Templar, yes?”

Cautiously Alistair looked up from the fire to be met by burning eyes and a mask of friendly inquisition. He already knew he was not liking where this is going. “I… Yes… There was nothing else for me at the time…Nothing else I knew….”

“Ah.” Zevran responded in an amicable tone, “An all too familiar dilemma I assure you. So, you would have been a hunter of the mages…” He said with a sort of enthusiastic flourish.

“Er… I would only…” Alistair grasped for a worthy excuse. It can’t be the same… he couldn’t be the same…

“…slaughter them like animals if they refuse their cage, yes?” Zevran drawled with a wicked flair.

“I…” Alistair casts his gaze down in shame, defeated. “I suppose I just accepted that it’s the way it had to be… The greater good and all that… I…”

“Hmn… No need. It seems all involved parties here have escaped the hand of fate. We are all lucky, no? A shame Jowan…”

“It is. I…. I can’t tell Astor that, though. “Hey buddy, seems we made you kill your best friend. Sorry, may have been a bit of a mistake.”

“Then let us not pretend it wasn’t” Zevran stated simply. And with that he left the would-be Templar to gather his thoughts, much more keen on finding where his Warden was off to, and if he will be alright.

Prompt: One of the reasons I first liked Zevran as a character was that his default tactics are set to defend the warden if he/she is being attacked.  So, the prompt for this week is Protective Zevran -- any aspect of Zevran being protective (in battle, verbally, etc.) is fair game.

Time Limit: No more than 3 hours

Deadline: Monday January 10th at 10:00 AM Eastern Time US.  Shortly after that time, I'll announce both the winner and the person who will select the next prompt from the list of participants (using the equal turns method detailed up-thread)

Prize: If you want me to write you something, I'll be happy to take a crack at it! Posted Image

Entry Summary

Corker: HAH!!!  I've had the same problem with the tactic, though it seems to happen with me in the Mage's Treasure sidequests in the Bracillians rather than Desperate Haven. "No, Zev! Alistair and I are handling the Revenant!  Go get that skeleton archer before he hacks Wynne to bits!"

Minaleth: Speaking of Revenants! Amazing details for such a quick piece. I love how you increased the scale of the Revenant to make it even more intimidating.

Sarah1281: Oooh, I really liked this.  The point / counterpoint of Zevran's protective instincts for Rinna and the Warden were really interesting.  Great stuff!

Tellervo: Heee! I was wondering if someone would choose to show Zevran being protective of someone besides the Warden -- Love the conspiracy between Zev and Dog; so much fun!

Jenovan: Awesome entry!  The idea that the tactic is based on self-preservation (particularly since only Leliana openly approves of the Warden recruiting Zevran) makes a ton of sense.  Plus, Devin is quite fun to read about -- he reminds me a little of my f!Surana with his "prickliness" *grins*.

Hilde: Nice!!! I hate how Alistair acts like such a prat if you don't resolve Redcliffe by fetching the mages. Loved seeing Zevran protect Ewan from his nonsense *applauds*

EccentricSage: Oh man... poor Astor! The mages I've played up to this point felt so betrayed by him that they didn't consider him a friend anymore after the Origin, but one who understood and sympathized... yeah, dealing with Jowan at Redcliffe would be very rough in that case.

Next week's prompt will be posted by: EccentricSage!
This week's prompt winner is: Tellervo! (PM me regarding your prize Posted Image)

So.... I'm replaying Moira and I need Zev ASAP in her party. (We all do, don't we?) I know the first half of Redcliff is the fastest way if you sacrifice Isolde or Connor. I just want to make sure I'm not going to miss anything important.

And, congrats to Tellervo!

@Sialater: If you're on a console instead of the PC and can't use the mod G_M provided, Redcliffe (without fetching help from The Circle) is fastest way to get him. The only things you would miss (as far as I know) are Zevran's comments when you talk to Murdock (regarding the survival rate of ingrates) and about using the oil when you talk to Ser Perth ("flaming undead").

Eccentric Sage that entry was absolutely heartbreaking, maybe it is because I am such a bleeding heart when it comes to the mages and the mage origin but my heart broke for Astor and Alistair really is a bit of a biggot when it comes to mages, 1st words out of his mouth when he meets a perfectly civil Morrigan is a jab at her magishness.

I really felt the pathos in that entry.
