Prompt: Antivan Leather
Zevran elaborates on his thing for leather. Maybe he was with Warden at market and saw something nice, or the Warden just asked and Zevran instructs how to appreciate the smell. It might be about boots, gloves, armor ... or something completely different.
Time: 1 hour
Due: Thursday (August 26) 23:59 GMT+1, I'll choose the winner at Friday
Prize: A picture (that can be basically anything, but I suck at backgrounds, so no bg probably)
Mina - love the banner!
Heh... mine falls under the "something completely different" category. Writing: 50 min / Editing: 10 min

Special Delivery
Aleksander Cousland passed as quickly as propriety allowed through the outer halls of the royal palace, his acknowledgment of the greetings and bows coming his way from guards and servants alike a mere habit on his part. His focus remained entirely on the large box in his hands and his destination in the private chambers housed on the second floor. He took the steps two at a time, eager to share the gift in his grasp with one person.
After waiting endless months, the delivery had finally arrived.
Restraining himself from bursting in unannounced, Alek rapped twice on the wooden door and opened it as soon as he was bid to do so. Alek’s gaze found his lover seated at a chair near one of the windows of the large room. Before him on the table were several vials, and in his hands a mortar and pestle ground pungent smelling herbs into a concentrated paste. “Keeping yourself occupied by crafting poisons in our bedchamber, bello? Should I be concerned at this turn of events?”
Zevran’s face split into a wide grin. He carefully placed the mortar on a section of the table covered by oil cloth and removed the protective gloves he wore, setting them aside. “Precaution only, mio amante. You are far too often in the public eye for my liking these days. I am simply making sure I’m prepared for any potential threats to your person.”
And certain people thought Alek irresponsible and reckless for keeping an assassin as his lover; not one of his personal guards had a tenth of the loyalty Zevran showed him. Aleksander angled his head toward the four poster bed. “Come sit with me a moment. I have something for you.”
Zevran quirked a brow at him questioningly but said nothing as he crossed the floor and sat at the edge of the mattress next to Alek, the large box resting on the bed between them. Glancing down at it, Zevran’s eyes widened as he recognized the maker’s mark branded into the otherwise smooth surface of the wooden lid. “You give me something from Trevisando Nerana?” Zevran’s voice held something close to awe as he lightly traced the lines of the curling script burned into the wood. “How is this possible? Master Nerana never leaves Antiva City, and you have never been away from me long enough to have gone there yourself.”
A thrill of delight ran up Aleksander’s spine at Zevran’s reaction. He’d been hoping to please his lover with the plan that had taken months to come to fruition, but he hadn’t been certain until now whether he would succeed. “I made the arrangements with Caesar several months ago, right after we started working with Ignacio. I pointed out that they both considered my ‘friendship’ to be important, and I wanted an extra favor.” Alek grinned at the look Zevran shot him – it wasn’t the first time he’d been the recipient of the you’re insane but I like that about you expression on his paramour’s face. “Caesar agreed to take my specification and use his contacts to get the order made and delivered.”
Zevran continued shifting his gaze between the top of the box and Alek’s face, absently stroking his fingers across the wood until Aleksander couldn’t wait any longer to speak. “Go on, open it.”
Zevran turned his attention back to the box, his expression reminding Alek of a child anxious to both see a gift and also dreading the loss of imagining what was within. Alek had a hard time restraining his own excitement, pressing his palms on his thighs and running them down to still the restlessness that made him feel like jumping out of his skin.
Zevran lifted the lid off the box and unfolded the cloth within to expose the contents. His eyes sparkled as he inhaled deeply and removed the leather wrist cuffs from the bed of silk. He took a moment to caress the fine stitching at the edges that bound the leather to the soft interior lining before setting them aside and reaching in for the next item, a matching set of ankle shackles made of the same materials. Those were carefully placed next to the cuffs on the bed before he reached both hands into the box to pull out a blindfold with one hand and a collar with the other. The leather blindfold was brought to Zevran’s nose as he inhaled deeply to catch the lingering scent of the material and tanners. He sighed contentedly. “Beautiful…”
Looking at the elf’s face, Alek couldn’t have agreed more.
“There’s an inscription on the collar,” Alek prompted, his voice low and rasping from simply looking at Zevran enjoying and appreciating his gift. “I hope they got it right. My Antivan is a little rusty.”
Zevran turned a hooded gaze on him. “You do well enough with the words that matter,” he replied with quiet intensity. He examined the collar and read aloud, “Z.A.: I am bound to you, always -- A.C.” Zevran blinked several times, then turned his gaze up at Alek, the familiar smirk chasing away the tender expression he’d had for a moment after reading the inscription on the leather. He held the collar up against his throat and asked, “So, do you like? Shall we try them on for size and have a little fun before dinner?”
Alek smiled softly and took the collar from Zevran, looping it around his neck and fastening the buckle at the side. “I think it fits perfectly, but you’re the expert. How does it look?”
Zevran’s eyes went from wide with surprise to heated with lust so fast Alek could barely track it. “You are exquisite, mio amore, but you and I are both wearing far too many clothes for me to appreciate this gift properly.”
Aleksander grinned with delight and bent down to slide a hungry kiss across Zevran’s lips before he began unbuttoning his shirt with fingers made clumsy by haste. He could almost feel the leather biting into his wrists and ankles already, and his body hardened with anticipation. “We can’t have that. Gifts are meant to be shared, after all.”

This happened to me the first time too. I just was not paying attention. Cried to my husband who said I was foolish because Zevran is the best companion. Became hooked on him after that though. The feeling killing him leaves you with is horrid though, sorry.

Zevran betrays you if you haven't got his approval up high enough by the time Taliesen appears (around the Landsmeet stage).I think he has to be up around 35 for him to not turn on you, but I don't know the exact number. Depending on your approval AND the conversation that happens when
Taliesen appears, Zev will either side with Taliesen, fight neither for
nor against you, or join you against the Crows.
You have to remember that Taliesen was as close a thing as Zev had to a friend and a brother in the Crows. Unless you've shown Zev that you can be some sort of friend as well, he'll return to the only person he thinks gives a damn about him.

@maradeux – oh man… that was a punch to the gut. Poor Little!Zev...
@Sarah1281 - I love it when fandom writers bridge continuity gaps. I'd always assumed Zev was purposely needling the Warden with the "returning after a job well done" to buy the boots (since you can have the conversation about Antiva with him very early) but I like this even better *nods*
@Corker - ooohhh... I really like this. It gives the boots themselves, as well as your Warden gifting them to Zevran, much deeper meaning. Nicely done!
@TanithAeyrs - As someone who tends to get completely bogged down in details when I write, I'm amazed at the way you used a few paragraphs to evoke a clear picture of Zev growing up. Kudos!
@Hilde - Yum. You did a marvelous job evoking a sense of intimacy between Zev and your Warden here. I loved that they lost themselves in the moment, and who wouldn't relish the idea of Nekkid!Zevran stabbing things with his dagger?
@Kornichon - Bwahahahahaha! I love this, so cute! *giggles* (On a side note, I must say that seeing your entry gave me a bit of relief, too. I was starting to think I was the only one who's brain went to a naughty place when seeing this prompt
And this is a bad thing? Methinks not. Payroo, come to the dark side!payroo wrote...
...and despite my best efforts, I can only come up with silly smutty fanart ideas for this week's prompt.

*cough*
(From before the prompt was officially a prompt. Totally innocent description of a Hero In Dire Peril, with nothing at all salacious about it. It's adventure fiction, honest! :innocent:)

@DOYOURLABS & the whole discussion - sorry, I did not intend to start an argument (and TanithAeyrs had already answered the question) - it only jumped into my mind (and must come out) that there are some questions which are "predictable like the tides" (Zevran-quote from the throne room). The first is "help, Zevran betrayed me", the second is"bbbut he said it would just be a massage... aaaaaaaaah" No offense meant. Really not. Sorry. :innocent:
@Zevran as "Günther" (didn't know him before...) O-M-G
@Corker - lol. Thank you for the link! Can't stop laughing.

This happened:

I've always thought the story he tells about the Dalish leather gloves were more about the idea of his mother then the Dalish aspect, so...
I have no clue why I am drawing sad things recently, I've been in a good mood all week!

I LOVE YOU FOREVER, ARUNDOR. But to show it to the bf or not? He will love it for the Gunther, but he will make fun of me for the Zevran... Hmmmmm...
Hey, Mina, I like your challenge prompt a lot, but seeing as I put off my dwarf contest entry until the last minute it won't really be possible.

And Gunther-Zevran is absolutely brilliant.
Now, this has nothing to do with the contest, but since I was having problems fitting a third banner into my sig, I made my own Zev banner. It's nothing special, but feel free to use it if you like it:

Yes, Witch Hunt is the final DLC for Dragon Age: Origins, and imo a great send off to an awesome game.
And by the looks of things, Witch Hunt will be following in the footsteps of everything post-Awakenings (meaning no Warden adventures with original companions).
Not sure how to feel about this. On the one hand, I don't know that I really ever wanted a Zevran DLC (for example, I don't think I'd want to re-live, say, the Rinna/Taliesin mission from his point of view) because I don't know what I'd want it to be. A post-Awakenings showdown in Antiva? No thanks (I hated that ending anyway, but that aside, I'd bet if it WAS a DLC you'd spend 90% of it just LOOKING for him and then he pops up with a "Did you miss me?" at the end. PS. That actually would be possible to make though, because you could even just re-use the line from Fort Drakon rescue, so have it be all puzzle/clue related and then you stick a "You - naked - now" end scene and it's gtg). Our Calling? Nah - that's not happening, because that crap Avernus had me drink totally staves that off. Sexy adventures 4 life!
On the other hand, Origins is over and that means no more Zevran-y goodness until DA3 (where our Wardens are back with Zevran at our side and we kick the everloving crap out of Hawke - hey, I can dream right?) Not that I can't re-play Origins to my heart's content (I certainly can) but still. I'm not ramped about Hawke in DA2 (at all).
So - happy there's new DLC (I might stab Morrigan in the face now just for spite at being the last DLC and knowing it's not going to take into account the Morrigan fixes where you can withhold the grimoire and actually have her acknowledge you're doing that). Really sad because there's no more Origins. REALLY really sad because there's no more Zevran.

Ultimately, I guess that a Zevran DLC would've been too similar to a Leliana one, and it might have been too depressing. But this is all just me trying to console myself.
