Everyone here knows about it already I think. I was hoping it was an old build, but apparently not. And I have had the feeling for awhile that DG's love of Zevran has been overridden by some other people's dislike of him (starting with the DLCs that have approvals that make NO sense).

I DO like what he says there in the released screenshot. Once I got over my shock, I definitely could appreciate that introduction.

Edit: Yay, ToP!

I think you guys are overreacting to the screenshot a bit, though. Hell, if DA2 headmorphs are moddable it'll really be a moot point anyway unless the sliders are just completely borked this time around.

The shoes thing, though... that makes me wonder. Barefoot Zevran would make me facepalm pretty damn hard.

Indeed. I still want to believe he will strongly remain attached to his antivan origins and screw the shoeless elves.

*LIttle Spoiler on DA2 inventory*

@Tankgirly, here is the complete review (or the complete summary of the review). With thanks to Aesieru!

Inventory has undergone a drastic facelift, as you can only outfit Hawke completely, resorting to mere weapon changes for your part, and "upgrading" their armor with rune slots.

And, if it ever happens he will be a companion for some quest, you won't even be able to give him a proper pair of leather boots! Such cruelty.

The remodeling of elves also included that they are shoeless.

OMG why the hate for the elves? Some of us love elves!

I don't know, Gaiderer said in this thread, when asked if Fenris will ever wear shoes "No. The artists have this thing about elves and shoes. Don't get me started." I have no idea what happened in the team, no love for elves all of a sudden.
Though I have to admit, it wouldn't have bothered me if they started shoeless in the first place...it's just changing the model and their racial traits from a game to another that annoys me.

Sorry, I know I am a lurker here (usually) and feel free to tell me to shut up. I can always go to my happy place, looks at sig... :)
I've seen shoeless hobbits, but have never seen a shoeless elven warrior. Of course, the movies, books and games before DA2 could have been wrong to armor elves. Who am I to say? But why bother with armour at all? Why not just give the DA2 elves potato sacks to wear?
I just don't get it. Why are the "artists" getting final word?

Because apparently EA figured out that DA needs to look unique, and not feel unique. So naturally the priority will go to the "art team", en lieu of the writing.

Yep, very superficial.

Hmmm, in truth, I haven't been following the DA2 forums since I was banned that one time (I just recently started posting there again) so I missed the shoeless thing.

I realize this is only my opinion but that is stupid. Why would the art department be allowed to decide something like that? Especially something THAT dumb and actually lore breaking. There are a couple of conversations with Zevran, your only elven party member, about him wearing footware. The Antivan boots of course (which is major), but also one where he dumps a warden if he turns hostile.

The wrong people were allowed to make that decision.

Edit: LOL< and just when I thought I was done being pissed off over choices made for DA2! WHY do I care so much?

LOL Well, I'm angry too. First they give Zev a "new" face so fugly that my mabari wouldn't pee on it. Then they turn the elves into scrawny, shoeless broken down looking elves. It's like a racial slam against elves. *rolls eyes* Yes, I am being dramatic, but I am a game owner so I'm allowed.

Please, at least provide a tool kit, so I can redo all the elves myself. :)

@Giggles...what's really bad is I knew immediately what movie that was.

Might as well put that on Zev's new face. Same fuglyness...

edit: oh please, someone post something nice for me. I have no pics here at work.

Yes, or he is trying to comfort us. Whatever the reason, the question of the boots still remains xD I still believe that, considering himself more antivan than elf, he will still love and use antivan leather boots :o

Wait...elves go barefoot now?

@ejoslin, since you are so well versed on Zev maybe you know how to just not start the Alistair romance while still being nice? I don't like being a douche so would rather avoid any confusion in the first place, iyswim? Plus if he gives me THAT quivering lip face I WILL cry.

Alistair's romance is easy not to start.  Don't call him handsome.  Don't tell him he's special to you (even when the two other conversation choices are snarky), and if he asks if it's ok if he calls you beautiful, tell him you would rather he diddn't (this actually should cut the romance off permanently).

If you flirt with Alistair in any way, shape, or form, it turns the romance on.  One of the funniest conversations I ever had regarding that issue is one where trying to convince him to marry Anora.  It went something like, "WHY should I marry her?" "Because I find men in power attractive." "Oooooh!  I didn't know that!" "So you'l do it?" "WAIT!  What about US?" "There IS no 'us!"'" (and IRL I'm going WTF?) Bam -20 approval.

He did marry her, FWIW.

As long as he doesn't give me that rose, I think I can manage that (I am avoiding the handsome line and the dialogue regarding lampposts atm.....) My husband wrecked my fun tonight lol, I had just about finished the Brecilian Forest and keen to get back to the Dalish camp so I can leave and trigger the Zev ambush... And HE wants to watch Friends.......... (we are having our annual Friends marathon, which better be over by next Friday, lol) So now I have to wait til at least tomorrow night :crying: Maybe Friday............

I *think* the only things we have to go on are the Gaiderquote mentioned above, and Merrill's and Fenris's designs. Considering their disparate origins, it might be a good guess that elves don't wear shoes in general, but then, neither of them is your typical "flat-ear".

Just saying!

(I'm sure the devs are amused at the madness going about the place, and all of our guesses and misconceptions. XD)

I got the definite impression from Gaider that elves in general don't wear shoes now, and he blames the art team.

It's my belief that Zevran now carries his Antivan Leather Boots around simply so he can enjoy the smell of 'rotting flesh', as he put it, whenever he gets homesick. Strange person as he can sometimes be. ;)

It just seems to be to be very contrary to wear body armour and no footwear. It makes me a bit angry that it's only elves this is applicable to. If I were Dalish, I would no better than to run around a forest in bare feet. If I were a city elf, I certainly wouldn't want to be stepping outside my house without something covering my feet. You never know what you might step in. Maybe, big maybe, I would run around in the tower without shoes, after they managed to drag me there kicking and screaming and bleeding profusely. :)

*shakes head* I don't get it and I never will. Hopefully it's just initial artwork. And I really, really, really hope that isn't the Zev they are putting in the game. :)

Yes, I didn't want to give an interpretation of someone else's thoughts, moreover because as much as I appreciate Gaider, I really can't say I know him :°D So i just quoted...but I had the same impression. As a writer, and as the writer of Zevran if I am not wrong, I can imagine he didn't like much this change...I mean, if I write a story and describe the world and the races that inhabit it, if someone later suddenly decides that the elves have to go around shoeless to make them more unique among the other elves of other fantasy worlds (I guess the idea was that they lived more in contact with nature or something of the sort), I wouldn't be happy. Because really, I've read even The Stolen Throne...should I imagine even the elves there shoeless...or Velanna, for the matter? I just think you cannot change the distinctive features of a race so abruptly. If they said that Fenris liked to go around shoeless, fine by me. If Merrill decided to try following Fenris suit, fine by me. But changing a race...well... whoever worked on it before has every right to be a bit annoyed. But there again, I am just speculating, maybe they all thought it was better to give this distinctive trait to the elves of Dragon Age...who knows.
