Just finished DA2, and once was probably enough. My game was pretty buggy - Merrill's personal quest couldn't be completed and I think her bug made Fenris bug out too, as I never got his personal quest follow-up (I didn't even know it existed until I checked). I still got the romance epilogue but none of the resolution and gate finale (I finally wrangled a fix for it, which was worth it). I've got my saves at Zevran all nicely labelled so if the flags are ever repaired (assuming there IS other dialogue) I can go back and check it out. I think the new elves are universally ugly (a weird mix of Bajoran and Na'vi), with the exception of Fenris who is far and away the best looking elf in the game (although he does suffer from skinny neck syndrome in a lot of up-close dialogue). I just put my hand up over the screen when Zevran was on deck. I'm glad they used Jon Curry and not someone else, it would have doubly broken me.

Minor spoiler:

Make sure to bring Anders with you to meet Zevran (I don't know if Isabela's dialogue overrides his, she's long gone in my game.)

So, back to Origins, and the Zevran I love! To ensure this remains on topic, here are two DA2 screenshots. Neither of them are direct spoilers, but I'm only going to link them in case people really don't want to see anything DA2 related until they finish (and obliquely, they do involve Zevran).

Gah! Just did the Zevran cameo... and I am upset. The only reference I got to the warden was the above mentioned line by Dunizel. (and Zev freaking went off to sex Isabela, imported romance be damned.) I am realllllllllllly hoping that this is just a bug with the import stuff... and that it'll be patched sometime soon.

...would it really have been that much work to put in a response to the flirting along the lines of, "Sorry, Hawke, I'm sure you're hot stuff but my Antivan ass is taken?" @_@

Sorry for my slightly incoherent ranting, just needed someplace to vent after that upset.

No, you don't have to take Isabela. In fact, depending on your playthrough, you might even not have her in that part of the story.

And while I'm tempted to bring her for the funny time, I will try to stop her flirting with Zev! She starts it in this case, to be honest! Or I won't take her at all, I don't know (I don't even know if I'll have her)...I'll just try all the dialogue options to see if something changes.

See, this is why I have multiple *strategic* saves ^ Also so I can listen to Zev declare his love again in Origins

I am thinking it's a dialog bug as well.  It just doesn't make sense to have a cameo of him for fan service, and then not have the fan service!  His codex is amazing, though.

I'm hoping a toolset is released soon!

Glad to hear there is a DA2 cameo, but I really hope that the dialogue is bugged. If there's missing dialogue flags where he talks about the Warden affectionately, than I will be very pleased indeed.

I'm looking into the details of how the game plays before I decide if I want it or not. My brother was considering getting me it for my birthday, which is in April. Honestly, unless it's a mind blowing game, I COULD just wait until they re-release it for the holidays with all the DLC included. I'm on to your game, bioware!

Yeah, I think I mentioned this earlier on. I like Zev because his personality really entertained me, his looks took a while to grow on me  I mean once I did like him I REALLY liked him, but as long as he is still Zev, if they haven't retconned anything vital like personality I will still like him, as much as I am not fussed on the new the look it would feel fickle not to. 
Actually this doesn't bother me, the smile is definitely Zev  *fans self* I can deal......

Why would they have to change his hair and skin color?

It was bad enough with Isabella, but at least she only had a minor apearance in Origins.  I could get used to that change.  But changing one of the main characters from Origins?  For what?  ****s and giggles?

Do all the elves have the same hair color and skin color now or something? 

Does anyone have a screencap where the graphics settings are all maxed?  Please tell me this is just the graphics settings making him look this bad...

Ok... I made the mistake of checking /v/. Is it true that most mages are pretty much evil by the end of the frikn' game? Someone was talking about a pro-mage play through where they kept stabbing him in the back every time he helped them. Anyone else experience this? Or is he just doing it wrong?

The screen above is way worse than the actual version in DA2. The remodeling of elves did affect in a bad way his traits, but rest assured that he is not THAT bad. Among elves, he is a beauty.
I'm not going to answer on the other question, simply because there is no right answer. DA2 has a story with lots of "grey" shades. You can't tell clearly who is good or evil, it's up to you to decide.

Don't take my question as a spoiler in it's self, though, as people in /v/ often troll, or at other times completely blow things out of porportion.  XD 

Damn... I rarely venture outside this thread... always lands me in frustrating rage inspiring arguments, and the events going on in our real world right now has me stressed enough as it is.  I think I should have ignored the whole existance of DA2 for awhile longer, if it had been possible.

I'm glad to hear Zev looks better in game than in that screencap.  *shutters*  I'm worried about what I'm hearing about the rest of the elves though.  WTF, bioware.

(It seems that, narratively, they do have to lean pretty hard on 'mages can go BAD' because they start with a heaping helping of oppressed underdog sympathy. If they really want to make the choices in the game difficult at all, they *have* to harp on the potential threat mages pose to balance the more obvious injustice of locking up and/or Tranquilizing every mage anywhere.)

Nope. I've found better screencaps of Zev on google. What. The. ****. The elves look so retarded now. They literally look like a cross between those cat-things from that stupid over hyped Avatar movie, and a really ill advised attempt at 3-D interpretation of anime characters. WTF is going on with their mouths and noses?

Whoever was in charge of the 3D application of the new concept art for elves should quite simply be fired.

I mean, really, if only some of them had that weird ass nose that's all wide at the top and tapers to a point, then ok... a charming quirk on the right face... but as one of the most defining features of the race? What? And those small mouths that just look drawn-on... they seem to lack the fullness of real lips, and the corners look so strained.

This is giving me a headache. Origins was a MOSTLY beautiful game that just needed improvements here and there... like the way lips were animated causing the shape of the lips to distort unnaturally, or unnatural skin and cloth textures that needed improving. The new art style hasn't improved on any of that... Instead they just jacked the faces and body porportions of all non-humans up even further.

Why must my second favorite game franchise be so UGLY now?!

Why do the elves no longer have any shape to their overall anatomy?  They look all stretched out and anorexic.  And instead of Zevran's usual graceful little flourishes in his body language, he's kind of oddly shaky and spazzy.  Reminds me of a chihuahua... you know... the really badly imbred ones that aren't even cute anymore.

An hour? Oh man, you both tempt and tear at me, Corker... so much stuff to mentally reconcile in DA2 to make it workable... since it falls into the DA:A category of, "Is this even canon for my story?"

I love Zevran, this poorly done cameo does not make me love him less.    I thought seeing an elf with blond hair and dark skin and all was a bit weird at first in Origins, but once I got a feel for how races and regions worked in the world of the game, Zevran was a character who made perfect sense to me.  Know what I mean?  With DA:2, the elves look more like a freekishly deformed alien human hybrid than actual elves. 

And I agree... teeth in Origins in general were really weird looking.  There were definite issues with facial rendering and animations in Origins, too. 

Weird thing is, with DA2, they didn't fix any of those issues... just changed the art style and over exagerated the racial differences to a point where it's hard to see why the elves are said to be so especially atractive in lore.  If you look close, they still have the same weird peg like teeth as in Origins, though.

Actually, though yes, Zevran looks horrible in DA2, his cameo isn't that bad. I suspect it's bugged and everyone gets a non-romanced version (like that never happens in BW games), but he is truly a BAMF and his codex is even better. I think the elves look like insects for the most part. Merrill and Fenris even move like insects. But I love Fenris anyway; so emo, but such a sexy sexy voice. Oh, ummm, wrong thread!

I like DA2. It has a lot of replayability (which is a good thing because it's not that long of a game). The cinematics actually are quite a bit better. It's grown on me, and there are some things I actually like better about it than Origins.

Anyway, while I recommend it, I can get why someone wouldn't like it. If you compare it to origins, it's lacking in a few ways (I think it's better in a few ways as well); it's so different, though, that it takes a bit of adjustment.

I'm on act 3 (though the PC version doesn't call it that) with about 33 hours. Well, I've been playing a lot since I got the game - if I wasn't eating, sleeping or watching TV I've been glued to the game! I just got the Murder of Crows quest and am well excited now - not sure whether to do that one straight away or save it...

That's weird, in my game Zevran looks a cross between that original horrible picture of DAII Zev and the one above - is that wrong? I just met him after killing the thing in the cave (again!) and am freaked!

he does look better on youtube than I expected but the animation itself is just yucky looking. Originbs was very pretty, finely detailed and less cartoony. Wasn't the purpose of the new design to make it less cartoony? All they did was make it look flat and lazy. That game just makes me so thankful that Origins was the way it was. I still have plenty of playthrus to go.

Well in Origins they looked bad and in DA II they look like dolls teeth.... ;) Hopefully they will get it right one day, but as long as he is fundamentally Zev then I can cope, iyswim?
