Aro, that is amazing. *grin* Zevran and that gun...
Zevran's looks in DA2... He looks pretty bad. If a toolset is released, I will probably make a simple mod of him, making his eyes larger and closer together, making his face more heart shaped, and giving him some eyebrows. I think this can be done while still retaining the new elf look. But that will wait until after I repair his dialog if BW doesn't fix it!
The thing I don't get about the elves, especially the male ones, is how awful most of them look. Fenris looks great; he looks so much better than the rest of the elven males combined. They COULD have made the elf males look good -- I have no clue why they only bothered with one. Fenris is the only elf with strong features, though; had they made other male elves strong featured as well, I probably wouldn't hate the redesign so much.

I just can't wrap my head around the new elvish bone structure. I mean, they look like an entirely different pointy-eared species than the DAO elves.
Which I guess is what the point was, but there had to be better ways to do it than turning them into an unholy mix of anime and realism in 3D with funky flat noses. Hell, I'm cheating on the EiB picture by exagerrating the shadow behind the bridge of Fenris' sunglasses and leaving his forehead a shade darker than his nose so that he looks like he actually has a nose and not some weird forehead extension. It's the one "fix" I'm allowing myself in this one.

RE: the elven redesign, agreeing that they CAN look good within the general parameters (pointy faces, weird nose-bridge). Fenris looks good, and Marethari looks GREAT (IMO, of course. ;D). She's more what I imagined the elves were supposed to look like, in general. (Merrill is okay but there's something weird with her eyes. I think it's her model specifically and nothing to do with the new elven look, though. XD)
Without being able to take the NPC models in the toolset and rotate and view them to my whim... XD I was trying to observe what makes a few of the elves stand out as good/okay, and others as wtf.
- I think Fenris, Merrill and Marethari all have some actual angle to their noses; it isn't a straight vertical line from their forehead to the tip of their nose.
- eyebrows XD Although I wonder if sometimes this is a tint issue (light eyebrows on pale skin)
- for the females, I think a lot of them suffer from very round eyes, and small mouths. Like... Varania is pretty, imo, but she can still sometimes have this dopey look because of those features.
- some of the males seem to have extremely large irises to their eyes, which just looks weird as hell in comparison to everyone else. Their eyes are also sharply angled, which, in and of itself isn't a big thing, but it seems like it only applies to the generic male model and not everyone else. XD;
Most of those notes don't apply to Zevran, though, since he has a unique model. His problem seems to be a case of multiple bee stings to the chin.

I mean, look at crazy bloodmage elf guy. WHAT THE @#$% IS THAT. I drew him in the first page of this little comic I'm doing and even in MS Paint he looks like something that should be crawling out of a well.
Edit: this guy.

Though he has an actual nose, even if the spot where it hits the forehead is still funky, so I don't know what to think. They broke their nose rule for the creepy guy. Who I'm sure is supposed to look creepy, but still. What the...
(The Duster brand made me facepalm IRL when I saw it, though. Not gonna lie.)

A Very Special Episode

"You're not my father! You're just... you're just the bann's favorite fancy-lad, and you can't tell me what to do!" Despite the bravado, Amethyne was already backing toward a window.
The words stung, but not too deeply; they'd had several years of adolescence already, and plenty of drama. And this was too serious to let himself get baited. Zevran tipped the glass vial to the side and watched the pink sand-like grains slide over each other. "This is lyrium, dolcezza. Did you join the Templar Order when we weren't looking?" He looked up at her and she froze. "Please do not tell me that it is not yours. Be more inventive, if you must lie."
"I'm not taking it; Andraste's ass!" She crossed her arms and tossed her head. "I'm sharp, I don't want to be dulled."
"So why is it here? As opposed to, say, in the Chantry?"
"Well..." She let her arms drop free and started to pace; Zevran noted shrewdly that she was wandering closer to the window. That would not do; he crossed the room to sit on its ledge. She saw him moving for it and almost bolted, but after one abrupt step it was already too late. He made a great show of having not noticed and looked up at her innocently. "Look. Some of us have ambitions to get out of the Alienage, all right? I... I appreciate having a position here in the house, and the bann's been really kind I guess, but I don't want to be a maid forever."
"It is honest work," Zevran said carefully.
"Like you would know anything about that," she retorted.
He smiled and leaned back against the window frame. She wasn't bad at this, but she would have to hit a lot lower to get a reaction out of a former Crow assassin. "Ah, dolcezza," he sighed, "I know what it is not, and that is almost as good, yes? And this," he gave the vial a small shake, "is not it. You are... what, then? Transporting it? Selling it?"
"I... don't know," she said finally, twisting her fingers. "I... found it and hadn't decided what to do with it."
"Found it?" he asked, eyebrow raised skeptically.
She nodded. "There's a ****** in the wall by the well."
"In broad daylight, a bottle of pink sand just carelessly left in a wall? You can do better, my dear."
"I'm not lying!" she protested hotly. "It wasn't broad daylight, it was -- " She broke off guiltily and Zevran sighed.
"It was after curfew and you were using the well as a step to get into Israfel's apartment," Zevran said, rubbing his brow. The lad and his family lived in a second story room, and apparently his parents slept entirely too soundly.
"Please don't kill him," Amethyne said earnestly.
"He is beside the point. At the moment, anyway. The point is that someone is using the Alienage as a drop for lyrium trading, yes? Or did you think someone just forgot this there?" Amethyne's mouth made a little 'o.' "Yes, 'oh.'" He shook his head and stood up, looking her over.
It had been ten years since they'd taken her in. The bann's small household had needed staff, and the orphan had needed a home. The work she did was the light cleaning and mending that any child in the Alienage might have as their daily chores, and indeed as the years had gone by, she was like family. Kallian had set aside a dowry for her, in fact. They'd made sure she could take care of herself, even if they'd both hoped that she'd have a peaceful, happy life. But here she was, considering dabbling in the lyrium trade to finance a Maker-knew-what sort of escape to a "more exciting" place than the Alienage.
He tapped his lips with two fingers thoughtfully. "And where would you go with your newfound riches, hm? What would you do?"
She crossed her arms again, all defensive. "You're going to say it's stupid."
He shook his head and held out one hand flat, palm down. "I will not. My word on it."
"I was going to buy my own lute and become a minstrel. Maybe a bard, even."
Zevran held himself very still as he carefully nodded, making sure that not the tiniest hint of That's not stupid, that's insane showed through his manner. "Like La Leliana, perhaps?"
Amethyne rolled her eyes. "I can have my own ideas. But... well, yes! She has such an exciting, glamorous life! She travels all around the world at the queen's command, doing... important things! I want to do important things, too, not just... get married and have some babies."
"Mm." Zevran stood. "Then we will have Leliana for dinner, and she will tell you what being a bard is like. There is much more to it than meets the eye, and not all of it is pleasant or glamorous, particularly if you do not have the right... mindset."
"You're going to ask her to talk me out of it," Amethyne said, disgusted.
"No." Zevran shook his head. "But before you run off to such a life, you should know what it is really about, not what the tales and stories say. Trust me, dolcezza; there is more to it than you have heard. Now, as for this..." He held up the vial of lyrium. "We are going to take this to the bann, and you are going to tell her what you have told me."
Amethyne's eyes widened. "No, that's not fair."
"It is eminently fair, dear girl. I expect that there will be much shouting and possibly some crying."
"You're mean!"
"Utterly cruel," he agreed. Kallian was going to be angry and disappointed both; Amethyne knew it, too. Making her see it was the best punishment he could devise. "Then I am going to investigate this new little problem, yes? Of who is leaving lyrium drops in our home. And the bann and I will take measures to see that it stops. You," he looked at her levelly, utterly serious, "will not be involved with it. Ever again." He mentally crossed his fingers for luck and went on. "Kallian has a dowry for you. If you do not wish to wed, I doubt she will force a husband on you. Take it and do what you will."
Amethyne's jaw dropped. "Really?"
"Well," he started to qualify it. Kallian would have to be asked, of course, and things considered, and... "I..." He looked at her open, hopeful eyes and sighed in defeat. "Yes, really."
He saw her knees bend and opened his arms to catch her when she sprang forward with a crushing hug. "Thank you, Zev," she whispered.
You didn't expect her to stay here forever, did you? he asked himself, staring at the opposite wall as an unfamiliar ache settled underneath his breastbone. He tried to banish it with a warm chuckle. "Do not thank me yet," he said, pulling back and giving her a kiss on the forehead. "We still have your audience with the bann."

Also, holy sh*t is he tall compared to what we're used to.

I kind of like that part.
My Warden (this is the import of my archer rogue Tabris, semi-known for the epic battle with Arl Howe in which she ran away creatively) did get mentioned, both by Zevran and in the codex on Zevran, though he still fired the wrong response to Tannu Hawke hitting on him. Ah well, buggy romanced!Zev dialogue as always.
I'm kind of digging the new height though. And that pose, haha. I don't mind short!elf!Zevran at all, but it's still novel to see him at Hawke's height.
(Edit: Also, his tattoo looks fine at lowest graphics settings, LOL. It looked thin and shiny and more like scarrification when I saw it on other people's videos/screenshots. It just didn't look right. When he turned his head in my game I went "yeah, those are his tats". The bump-map is doing something stupid to the texture. So the solution to Zevran right now, I think, is turn your graphics down when you meet him. It's not as painful that way. XD)

That spot is funky, period, as I've discovered while messing with the CC. Turn your male Hawkes to profile while making them, and that spot is also somewhat odd.
Yep, ran into that problem while trying to recreate Tannu (who is normally a human everywhere anyway). Just seems to be the new mesh thing. They still seem to make it worse on the elves, maybe because their eyes are so big and far apart and their foreheads are so wide. What the hell, gray!elves.

!!!!!!! Are you using the mod that fixes the import flag? None of mine say anything like that! That is awesome!
Edit: Going back to check the codices of all my DA2 saves in case I got those and just didn't read it thoroughly. I LOVE those!
Second edit: OMG, the one I just checked DOES say that! How ridiculously awesome! Gah! I wish the dialog wasn't bugged, but at least that's SOMETHING!
third edit: Not all of them have that (obviously). I think it may just be the one where I'm using the import flag fix. *sigh* I am so glad it was known

He also said something to m!Hawke about the Warden that I liked: link!
And this amused me: Bendy!
Fenris still had to shoo him off in the end, (like I could resist hitting on Zev!) but at least some stuff seemed to be working right. I'm using the mod that tries to fix things, though, so that could be why I got those lines at all. Poor bugged Zevran...
He'll get fixed someday. In the meantime, meet him with graphics turned down for better (visual) results at least.

I think that's a mourning line -- if you had taken Isabela, he rejects her because the loss is still too fresh, and it's that same voice.
Going through my old saves, it appears that my queen couscous may not get the mention of Zevran being her lover. The ones where I used a save game creator do not (as I expected).
But gah, I'm so glad you read that and posted it. That does make a huge difference, that everyone knew they were lovers. My casteless is very VERY happy now!
yet another edit: I'm scrapping my DA2 game because my Queen CousCous, which is a WH import, is totally gorked. Zevran's import flags did not import apparently. At all. Hmmmmm. From now on, just Origins imports!

I actually am not going to scrap my current game. the zz_vault_debug is returning Zevran's romance properly, though the save game editor doesn't have that data in the same place as origins. I think WH data may be stored in a different way (actually, I think it has to be). I should find out tomorrow if Queen CousCous is recognized as Zevran's lover. If he isn't, I'll scrap the playthrough, seriously, and import a Queen CousCous directly from Origins.
Am I obsessed? *grin* Maybe a little. But that codex is just too good! And my Casteless shouldn't have all the fun

Ha, just saw the "proper" codex in game this evening as well~ From the way the text is worded, I can't really tell if there would be a separate version for a dead Warden or not. Since I'm an obsessed fangirl, I did rush ahead with my queen Cousland import and got this codex as well. Honestly, that is just how I pictured her -- terrorizing Alistair, and going out and kicking ass with Zevran whenever she could. It is my head-canon explanation why she's not with him at that moment -- she and Alistair had royal stuff to do.
Now all we need is the correct dialog to trigger, and I'm an overjoyed fangirl!

Despite that, I did really like the Zevran cameo. It was so much better than the Alistair cameos (I've had one with him as King, and one as a wandering drunk). He doesn't look good as an elf, but he does look a lot better than just about all of the other male elves. He also has a much better body shape than the other standard elves.
I also couldn't resist making my character flirt, and also got Fenris being a ****** (don't go threatening my Zevran - oh, wait a minute, he's not this character's Zevran). This playthrough, I think I'm going to go for Isabella instead.
I don't like the way the elves look, but I suppose they do look more distinctive now, rather than humans with pointy ears. I do like that it's possible to create a good-looking human male character (something I never quite managed in DA:O). I've also noticed that they seem to have been a bit more careful with the sliders on NPCs. I don't see as many with giant mouths, etc.
@Aro, I love EIB! And I remember you running away from Howe. That's more or less what my archer rogue did in the duel at the end of Act 2. I felt very brave and honourable, running round the pillars.

OMG I was wondering if rogues had it any easier! I've done it with warrior and mage now, and they're both running around going 'Eeeeeeeeeeeeee!!' and trying not to get squished! XD I tell you, without tar bomb, combustion bomb and life ward (the last one for my low con mage!) that fight would have been a whole lot longer and more annoying. Even crushing prison barely does anything.
Wow. The duel with Loghain in DA:O might have absurdly slow or incredibly easy depending on class/skills, but at least you didn't have to run around like a moron in front of dozens of people.
