Argh, I wish I played the cameo after the mod fix!!
I want the entry with the mention of my Warden too ç_ç

I guess I will just replay everything from that point on...ah, the thing I do for Zev.
But I'll still wait a bit more to find out if they will really fix this cameo...I don't think the codex entry for an alive Warden will be different, but if I have to replay it all, at least I would like a proper cameo, with the right codex and the right lines >.<

I actually had to bump the game down to easy to beat that guy, because healer!Tannusen pecked him down to half and then he'd chug health potions. Sob. And I had like no lyrium pots either, so I was constantly OOM (out of mana).

I think I hammered at it for like an hour before finally just bumping it down to easy. *hangs head* I'm the healer, man! With a side of crowd control (glyphs) and some fire. With long cooldowns. I spend over half of every fight in spirithealer mode, FFS.

XD

Someday I'll man up and take him for reals. ...With someone who isn't a healer. Poor wimpy Tannu. XD He was never in danger of dying, at least!

Actually, come to think of it, I had to run like a b*tch from several bosses through out the game. Tannu would do just enough damage with firestorm and such to draw aggro, and then go O_O FFFFFFFffffff and end up running in huge circles. There was a dragon in the deep roads that was like that for the last 1/8th or so of its health bar. MMM, I SMELL HEALER!

lol, I should make something like that happen in S&S. Yeah, he can zap you a lot, but there comes a point where he just has to kite. A lot. While the tank and any melee dps chase after.

I'm just impressed you could kill him with a healer! An hour?! Holy Maker. I think I went 10-15 minutes? My mage was mostly a controller, the only damaging spells she had were Arcane Bolt, Crushing Prison, Fist of the Maker and Fireball. Crushing Prison worked 1 time in 5, and I don't think Telekinetic Burst or Grav Ring *ever* knocked the big guy off his feet.

I can see a rogue's stealth/backstab being very useful though :)

Even so, I swear that fight was nothing like the Trailer. XD

Cassandra: Bullsh!t! Ripping the qunari limb from limb is not how it happened!
Varric: But it's so much cooler! Trust me on this.
Cassandra: I want the truth!
Varric: But the truth is boring! And a lot less heroic.
Cassandra: Varric...
Varric: *sigh* Fine, fine. You want a blow by blow analysis? Don't say I didn't warn you.

No no no, I spent an hour trying and then I bumped it down to Easy where he doesn't seem to use pots, and pecked him to death. XD I managed to perfect firing off firestorm over his head whenever he went ramming into a wall. Sometimes I even got to paralyze him with a glyph in it for a few seconds, lol. AND THEN, THE RUNNING.

Backstab, not so useful -- at least at the level my Tristran had it at (I think he had one upgrade for it). :/ It was like flicking someone on the nose. XD I was kiting quite a bit too, waiting for one or both potions to come off cooldown... ~_~ That fight did take a while. And was it just me not managing well, or did some of his attacks wipe your stamina?!

hey everyone. I just wanted to pop in and say "hi". I'm still mourning over the loss of my 12 year old dog, Max. Maybe if I play for a while it will get my mind off the mutt. I still haven't gotten DA2 yet, so I'm still having fun with DAO.

@Aro: You can actually GET him to run into a wall? Bah! I mustn't have tried hard enough...

@jen: I didn't notice that on my warrior...I may not have been paying close enough attention though, and I had stam-bumping skills to sort that out. So I'd be running and clicking 'boost' every few steps while waiting for skills to recharge, haha.

@verly: Sorry about your dog :( DA:O dog (and DA2 dog if you have him) are still there for you :(

This might sound masochistic, but the agro system in Origins is one of my favorite aspects of the entire Origins combat system. I've seen a lot of DA2 fanboys who hate on Origins try to argue that the new combat is MORE strategic because you can't just hide everyone behind the tank. Um, what game were they playing? Certainly not Origins on Hard or Nightmare. KEEPING agro fixed on a tank can be a job in it's self. There were plenty of times my best layed out plans backfired because a high level enemy for some reason went 'Screw Alistair, ttly taking on the rogue or the mage.' This was particularly true with Revenants.

Also, The duel with Loghain is such a pain in the ass. Just wow. On the Other hand, I didn't find Howe that hard compared to other bosses. I can't remember what my strategy was with Dristen, but I remember it was tedious, though unremarkable. I think the key was Wynne's healing aura thing, and lots of reduce hostility on her. And two rogues and Alistair, with decent poisons. Maybe I've been lucky with that. But Revenants, on the other hand, just troll the **** out of me.

Totally coming out of left field with an errant thought that's been puzzling me.  No relation to DA2 at all. :)

We've had some interesting takes on Zevran and why he went to, and returned from, the Dalish since I've been on the thread.  Maybe there were some more before I got on the boards, and y'all covered this, but that'd be a year or more ago so I don't feel too bad tossing this out there.  :)

Zevran will say, when you're talking the Sarel, that the Antivan Dalish are more violent than the Ferelden clans.  So I wonder: Might he have left because he didn't care for ambushing random merchant caravans?

Then I say to myself, Self, he is an assassin, not a cuddly kitten.  Killing people is his job.

And then I parry with his apparent desire to believe that most of the people he killed had it coming.  A bunch of merchants and guards doing their business?  Probably not so high on the "needs killing" scale.

And then it's, ORLY, fangirl, you're just putting him in a gentler, more appealing light than you should.

What do you think, thread?

I think that Zevran does not really approve of pointless murder or senseless violence.

If he was pretty much being a bandit I think he would probably not enjoy it so much.

The thing is that while Zevran is a killer, he doesn't get off on violence and (if memory serves) disapproves of needless cruelty. I can imagine some Dalish *enjoying* it when humans are being hunted, maybe even captured and abused, and peer pressure to join in accepted acts when you want to belong to a group can be a helluva thing.

I think that makes sense.  He enjoyed the sense of empowerment, holding other's lives in his hands, but he also wanted to be able to justify the killing.  The killing in his opinion is to be a measured act, something done for survival or because the victim had it coming, as I imagine many merchant princes and royalty did, considering sexual abuse and slavery are accepted against the poor, the elvish, and the slaves in Antiva.  Zevran is never racist against humans, though, which I imagine the more violent Dalish are.  We know that when he realizes that he is capable of cruelty and injustice, and that his masters truly don't car, he gives up on life.

I think another possibility is that the Dalish in Antiva don't welcome 'Flat Ears' as their people.  He himself may have been mistreated by the Antiven Dalish for all we know.

Also, completely random here, but regarding DA2 elves... I think their body shape bothers me more than their faces.  They lack skelital and muscular definition... I completely can not look at them and suspend my disbelief.  Also, the old elf design was more acurate to the lore Gaider built.  The new ones are so extream they are lore breaking.

Zev does, I believe, say that he tried to avoid killing innocents... whether merchant caravans fall under that aegis is up to your interpretation, I suppose. XD  But I think you'd have to assume for the most part, they weren't the same sort of political high-value targets that the Crows usually dealt with.

Zevran doesn't give any particular impression of being racist against humans, especially not in the manner of the Dalish (let alone even MORE aggressive Dalish... eep).  I could imagine him taking poorly to being a raider-crusader.  I think he'd find that more truly unappealing than... I dunno, sleeping outside or hunting for food, or all these other menial things.

I agree that the Dalish may just not have welcomed him, though.  Any combination of these things would do the trick, probably, but it's still sad... freedom in his hands and he gives it up?

Hmmm, if you kill Lloyd, Zevran is all, "YAY! Murder!" and you get an approval boost.

I don't think Zevran would have left the Crows Dalish because of moral reasons. It's always possible that the Crows Dalish turned him away, but I don't think it's that. I think it's because Zevran is a city elf; he hates forests, he hates being dirty, he even hates it when his blades smell gross. It's possible that the Antivan Dalish are just as violent as the crows, so if he's going to be killing people, he'd rather have a more comfortable life with more available pleasures.

Edit: Edited many hours later because of massive typoes.

This. I really doubt he'd fit in to the way of life, and accept the Creators as his gods, and relish the idea of living on mostly foraged and hunted things. He's a city boy, and likes the perceived joie de vivre that can only come from cities.

Zevran and the morality of murder is another tangeant all together...

Oh wow, editing my post here as well because I put in some MAJOR typoes.  It was past my bedtime.  I meant to say Dalish instead of Crows!

And yes, I can't see Zevran being happy living as a Dalish.  He respects them, but he makes enough comments in many places where it's pretty clear he likes his comforts and his pleasures -- both of which would be lacking in the Dalish community.

How he lived, though, he really had very little control over.  He was a slave, he was raised to be a slave and a murderer.  So I don't think he would have a huge moral problem with killing caravans.  What the warden offered him was something completely different -- freedom to live in a way that he wanted to live.

Ah... I've missed my sane elf. *hugs Zev* The surly broody one is threatening to eat my brain as Anders has.

I see y'all are still as constant in our shared love of the assassin as ever. ;)

I don't doubt his lifestyle preferences had something to do with it, but I do think Zevran has some belief in justified killing, vs. killing for fun. I mean, when he says 'yay, murder', there seems to be a sence of irony in his voice. And yeah, there's approval points, but we are deliberately given the impression in what little dialogue we get at the tavern that Loid was a scumbag. I think it just does not take much for personal benefit to outweigh the right of another to life, from Zevran's POV.

I think I like the muscle elf skin better... the shading on this looks a bit wonky to me... like muscles drawn on with make-up, and other wise not very well defined. And hairy arms is just breaking lore for me. XD The tats are nice, though! I'll give the modder that! Thanks for sharing.
