Ahem!

So I was quite surprised today, when I was contacted by Derek from Bioware regarding some prizes for the Zevran Thread's weekly competitions. I'm certainly not trying to swoop in (swooping is, of course, quite bad) and usurp anything (I've never won a weekly, the time limit just prevents it), especially since I took my unintentionally long hiatus but I'm certainly not going to turn down free stuff for Zevran fans.

So, I've got prizes! I don't know when everyone would want them to start taking effect... like, this week? And if people would want multiple winners or stretch it out (which would take like, 3 months)? I'll let everyone discuss.

It's codes for the new Mark of the Assassin DLC for Dragon Age 2, for the PC (I believe PC, as that's what I requested, with my second choice being PS3, so... I'm just assuming it's PC since they don't say).

Stretching it out would give people more chances to win.

Edit: top!

@Sresla ~ Wow! That is kinda cool they offered that! I think stretch it out as well, but maybe over just a few weeks (like the month of October?) since the release is coming up so soon. This will be fun! :D

-huff, huff- all caught up with the front page now!

@Sresla - you, my friend, are ridiculously awesome! As is Bioware for offering!

@Tryynity, thanks XD Some of the things Zevran says make you wonder about poisoning techniques...

@Hilde, hmm... good question. Personally, I imagine that over time, Zev learned how to enjoy his work. Kinda like an artist taking pleasure in making something. That, and trying to distract oneself could actually be kinda dangerous in some situations... (Now I'm imagining that going badly for him sometime on a job, when he's still fairly green...) Thanks! :)

@Bitenomnom, thank ya! XD

@ Tellervo - OOoo that picture is the best action shot yet Ive seen - Zevran riding the freaking Dragon as he is killing it - did you pose that??!?!?! or is that live action - my screenshots suck majorly which is why I only have shots taken during cutscenes :(

@ Jenovan - yea - how he actually poisoned the guy - I saw it ... at least I think I did Ive been reading things SOOOooo wrongly later I scare myself *snickers* I need more Disney to clean my mind up again... nah... too boring :P I created a Black Widow character (fem assassin) with similar style of poisoning - not same that would be impossible but follow the same line of thinking and ur there.

@ Srelsa *chuckles* "Swooping is bad" ...but not always. in this case no - swoop swoop all you can :) hahaha

That phrase is almost up there with- "You had me at hello" LOL

I came up with a prize idea today that I owe Sushifer - kinda lame now offered up in the presence of such golden offerings from above - but

Sushifer - if you have a fan-fiction site you would like me to read and review every listing I am happy to do that - I am finding out the more reviews a writer gets on these sites is a good thing, sooooo let me know :) if you would like that service... I have finished researching smut - so some nice pleasant reading would be awesome - but I will not refuse the other either....

OMG the things Ive learned ... ahahahhaa I will not elaborate here.... but OMG ...ppl do these things *blush*

Holy crap. o_O I suppose now I can stop complaining about Bioware only offering competition love to graphic artists and cosplayers. XD That's quite cool of them (thanks Derek and Bioware!). I wonder if this was extended to all the fan threads with artistic endeavour comps, or if this is just for Zevran being a fellow assassin? Hmm...

Anyway, I believe the MotA DLC goes live this month, so starting right away would probably be a good thing (at least one person would get to play it early-ish ;)), but personally I'd prefer drawing it out instead of multiple winners, and keeping with the one winner per comp trend. Plus it would mean people who are busy right now might have time to try in a month or two.

(Sresla - the time limit was extended to 3 hours a few months back. Still too short? :/)

Yay, even more entries! It's lovely to see the thread so busy. Judging is going to be fun. (not to mention difficult, hah)

@Tryynity Aww, that's really nice of you to offer! Thankyou :) I haven't posted my writing anywhere but BSN at the moment, but as I plan to start chucking my stuff onto other sites if I get my planned longer story off the ground, I may have to take you up on that. Probably won't be any smut for you to research, though ;) I've never tried writing it and I'm frankly worried that the results, should I try, would be fairly horrifying.

@Sresla Wow. Just... wow. That's really incredibly awesome! What a lovely generous thing to offer. Thankyou, bioware!

@jenovan Argh, I really Ioved your entry, but as my brain likes to make stupid connections I couldn't stop thinking of a recent QI episode (relevant part starts around 1:30) Oh, and thankyou for catching up on the prompt archive, too :)

Wow OMG yes! I think they just got +10000 approval from me. Posted Image

Yeah that time limit is quite difficult for me as well. I had to set my alarm clock and I was checking it every ten minutes or so, especially when I was searching all kinds of dictionaries for the right English phrase. Finished just few minutes before it went off.

But it's very rarely have three whole hours to write, normally I write one scene today, next one tomorrow. I think for oneshots it is in average three hours... but it will be quite difficult for me to be so disciplined and record my time each time I write something.

Its all good I got me a good enough vocab to add to my limited one O.o ... Thesauras was so unhelpful in that regard.

LOL

e.g.    e*r*e*c**** = construction/creation/assembly/ and my favourite - formation etc

LOL I mean I can just see it...

"she reached down and grabbed Zevran's construction

ROFLMAO

Im sorry if that violates forum rules - I tried to be as discreet as possible - but seriously if you read a Zev thread you gotta expect that kind of thing...

I have a question - in many fanfics, Zev is uncomfortable staying over for night after sex, because sleeping close to someone is dangerous, Crow instincts, etc.

Is this a part of canon? Did I somehow miss the conversation where he says it? Or is it just fanfic thing?
I want to write a story about his past as an assassin. I ask because it doesn't sound very likely to me, but if it's canon, I will accept it.

LOL!  That *would* be a fiendishly clever assassination ploy. XD   (One doesn't hear enough about allergies in these settings... maybe because people did have less of them in the past...)

@Tryynity, it's okay ;)  Over time, the Zevthread has been a relatively dirty place.  ;D  We take it in stride!

Edit:
@Klidi, it's not canon as far as I know :)   Just a thought that Zev might not fully relax or let his guard down around someone at first, and/or might not want to make any romantic, snuggly implications. ;D

The game never outright says if Zevran 'stays the night' after sex. What you're seeing appears to be fan interpretation of a few things:

Zevran says that, for an assassin, sentiment is dangerous.
All his life, he's been trained to not believe in nor to trust 'love'.
If Zev's approval gets high enough, Wynne can comment that Zevran 'lowers his guard' around the Warden.
Given his profession it's probably unlikely he'd be willing to put himself in a vulnerable position without precautions, unless it was with someone he truly trusted (a friend or loved one).

After all, again considering he was a Crow, he would have used sex as a means of getting close to targets. He has very good first hand experience of what happens if you trust the wrong person.

Plus, fanfic writers love angst and sexual tension. ;)

Edit: So do Bioware writers, if you ask me. :P

I agree with all that.

But  I also think that he had to sleep in many places and with many people that were not safe. I think there would have been be many situations where he could not just walk out and say 'see you in the morning', so he would be kind of used to it. Always on his guard, of course.

As for his use of sex as a tool to get to his target, and a lot of angst it caused now that he wants real relationship with the Warden... There was a prompt at kmeme about just that. Very lovely prompt that I just had to fill. Posted Image

While it never does say outright whether he spends the night with the warden, you know he spent the night with at least his second target as he talks about kissing her goodbye the next morning, and the only thing that seemed to strike him as remarkable was the way she died and learning of her betrayal. Now this doesn't mean he actually fell asleep. Though when Wynne complains about the loud sexx0r, she does say it goes on all night long.

Zevran and the warden do have separate tents, or at least separate sleeping areas. But Zevran doesn't have problems going to sleep in the camp (he does tell the warden, "You know where I sleep") so I doubt if there was any discomfort of falling asleep with the warden it would do with his assassin training.

I think some people do associate actually falling asleep with someone as more intimate an act than sex. But in my opinion (and this is ONLY my opinion), a skilled lover, someone who is truly good in bed is as good at the before and after times as they are at the act itself. If I had a lover who left soon after the deed, I would most likely feel used, especially if it happened every time, even if I were the one to initiate it.

I personally think he would spend the night with the warden.  I can't think of any reason why he would not that sits right with me.

There are enough blanks, though, that people can fill them in however they wish.

I'd go out on a limb with the reliable answer "It depends." Because even if there was a One True Zevran to go by, there's still a multitude of Wardens and approval levels at which you can get it on. First tent time at lowest possible approval vs. after the jealousy conversation, or even after Love, are probably really different things.

Seems like most people want to stretch it out; I've got 12 codes so that's 3 months worth of prizes for us. Not to say people can't offer up something personal in addition to them, either! Mark of the Assassin comes out October 11th (next Tuesday) so there's no reason we can't start up giving the codes away for this week's prompt. If only it was a Zevran DLC... ah well, gift horses and all that.

Shadow of Light Dragon wrote...

I think the shortest I ever managed to complete a prompt in was about 3:30, so it might be possible if I mentally planned it out and then just sat down and wrote (No distractions? For three hours? What is this sorcery!). I'm just slow.

Fraps at one frame per second. Sometimes I'll pause, center on an interesting character, rotate and start, but I don't do a lot of posing.  Most of it is happy accident and shotgun approach.

So, are we going to start dishing out codes as prizes starting this week? Or, I dunno, establish more of a system so they last longer? Maybe once a month, or fortnightly...

Oh, and there's little over a day left on the prompt!

Hmmm... I don't think it is going to be so attractive after a year - most people will have DLC by then. Also I think it wouldn't be fair if someone wouldn't get it just because it was 'wrong' week.

Do you know, I thought the *same* thing.  I was sure it would end up all pulsating euphemisms and hot slick cliches.

It's actually been pretty fun.  I've done long and plotty pieces that had little smutty bits, and pr0n-without-plot, funny pieces, dark pieces (not many, maybe one or two?), all kinds of stuff.  And a few cliches. :)

Re: prizes/DLC: Wow, that's really awesome! =D

Speaking of the prompt, I'm going to try to write my entry tonight...I'm slightly braindead after a 4-question physics test that took me 7 hours and I have a test for a different physics class tomorrow (not nearly as long though, whew) that I haven't even started to study for...but all that being said, doing some writing sounds really nice. Maybe after a nap.
(I don't remember if I mentioned that I did actually write one a couple days ago...but it doesn't fit with some canon stuff, so I'm scrapping it. XD Though, I still have an hour's time left on its three-hour "budget" so maybe I can just...fix bits of it up...hmm.)

In re Zev staying after sex - my character interpretation is NO.  Zev isnt a fluffy love bunny in the beginning - its tempting to idealise him to be but in truth he is not.  He has been hardened/conditioned to the point if he feels a stirring in his heart that he cannot control - he will kill you. Problem solved.

I believe also it is a survival tactic - fall asleep with a fellow assassin you could wake up dead or not wake up at all as the case maybe :P

He can change and does - so I guess in regard to fan-fict its where in the storyline he is doing this.

e.g. highly unlikely he will bring you handful of daisies the next morning if you allow him to live after the assassination attempt and you actually had sex that night.

2/3 months later possibly

Look at it this way - even at the Denerim gates(how many months into the relationship is that?) he can barely say the words I love you without choking - in fact the way to make him feel safe about those words is to abuse him first and then he will say "cruel to the end - thats why I adore you" but I do not believe it is sincere reply but a conditioned reaction to hide behind bravado & BS  - besides if you truly want to make this character grow in this area its best to keep challenging him to go past his area of discomfort - i.e refuse the ring is drawing a line in the dirt to see if this character is capable of ever saying he loves your character.

But thats just me and my view - not necessarily the view of the actual creators - and fan fict writers can change him to suit their needs/desires in truth.  As players do with his looks... I chose to keep him as created with just Ejoslin's minor changes to different angles.

You can glean alot if you watch his approval scores and your responses to how he truly thinks about your comments.... does that make sense?
