'Tis the Time of Judgment!
Once Upon a CrossoverEver wanted Zevran to run amok in Rivendell? Get hired by Voldemort to assassinate that pesky Harry Potter? Meet a strange kid with a red and white globe who's Gotta Catch 'Em All? Team up with the smexy hot Ezio Auditore in a dual assassination extraordinaire? Make passionate love with Spock during the ravages of
pon farr? Wonder exactly how
does one make sweet, sweet love to that red-haired mermaid with the beautiful voice? If so, you are
sick and twisted welcome to this week's prompt!
Yes, 'tis the bane of any FF writer's existence, the Crossover! This can be Zevran alone, with the Warden, or the entire group. Don't worry about setting up *how* the worlds collide, just go crazy - the more outrageous the better!
Time Limit: 3 hours
Deadline: 8PM Pacific Wednesday 23rd November
Media: Any which way but loose (errr, I mean, anything and everything)
Prize: Not being an artist, I've come up with a couple of different alternatives from which to choose:
1) A DA:O .mor/mrh/mop character file designed to your specifications - sorry, PC users only!
2) Beta reading analysis of a piece of your own writing (max word limit: 200K) and conversion to eBook format of your choice
3) A musical composition (instrumental or based on provided lyrics because I suck at writing lyrics!)
4) A short story or kmeme piece based on anything you request
5) Unstinting praise of a job well done

ENTRIES:Corker –
A Midsummer Night’s Fade Fancy – Zevran / Shakespeare Misdummer Night’s Dream –
Act III -
Time: 1 hr
Prompts: 5
What can one say about the Assassin and the Bard, together at last (in a way that won’t make Leliana fans have a heart attack, anyway). As a former devotee of the Bard in college, I was giggling like a maniac all through this entry, but particularly enjoyed the interweaving of the DA mechanics (like poison, which of course Zevran is familiar with) into the script.
Zaxarus –
Zevran Crossover - Zevran & Warden / 7 Samurai
Prompt: 1
Time: 2 hours
Excellent fill! I love the 7 Samurai (and its variation), and truly loved the idea of the assassin Zevran ported over to ninja Zevran in feudal Japan. I thought the story was well paced, Zevran well-characterized despite the completely different setting, and the transliteration of Zevran & Nemain to Japanese culture handled extremely well.
Shadow of the Light Dragon –
Arainai. Zevran Arainai – Zevran / James Bond villain
“No, Mister Arainai, I expect you to die!” I was waiting for that line, and definitely was satisfied. All kinds of awesome in this story as Shadow of the Light Dragon deftly works the classic Bond ‘tied to a table with an overly-complicated death mechanism in place’ theme into Zevran’s dealings with some former colleagues. (oh, and definitely an additional tip o’ the hat for the best usage of the word ‘dismembered’ I’ve read to date.

)
Hilde –
Mirror Mirror – Zevran / Star Trek Mirror Universe
Time: 1 hour
Prompts: 3
Evil Zevran in the Mirror Universe of Star Trek. Awesomesauce. I loved it!
BloodsongVengeance –
Ridiculously Awesome – Zevran & Warden / Torchwood
Prompts: 0
Even if there wasn’t hot Zevran/Jack action told in the story, this was still a fun read. For all of Bloodsong’s protestations of ‘not knowing Torchwood’, I found the characters true to form and the insertion of the two elves just as smooth as if the characters were indeed ‘aliens’ and not from a fantasy world. Well written, entertaining, and good characterization – this is why when a crossover works, it really works.
Klidi –
The Boys Who Lived – Zevran & Warden / Harry Potter
Time: 2:45
Prompts: 1
Very well done crossover. The description of the interactions between Potter and Thedas lore and magic was extremely well done, and the correlation between Harry’s sacrifice and the Grey Warden/Archdemon tangle was depicted effectively and added a great deal to the story. Again, as with the best crossovers, all the people on both sides were in character, and the interactions were smoothly written and well-placed. Including the elves as second-class citizens undertone was also a mark of brilliance. I loved this story – I know you said it was harder than you thought, but I for one think it was worth it.
(Although I’ll admit part of me was hoping that they would walk through the mirror into Middle-Earth, so that they would finally find a world where elves weren’t second-class citizens. But that’s just me.

)
Tryynity –
Lost in Translation – Zevran/Legolas from Lord of the Rings
This is a wonderful example of the difference between High Fantasy and Down-to-Earth Fantasy (as I call High Fantasy with modernistic sensibilities, like Dragon Age). Zevran makes a strong appearance, and I must admit I giggled at the idea of the 'heartthrob' of the LOTR movies losing out to Hawke from DA2. I still like this story, despite the protestations of the writer, as these are two difficult worlds to crossover.
NON-ENTRIES:
Corker –
The Importance of Having Boots – Zevran / Puss in Boots
These two characters have so much in common, it’s eerie… A truly priceless little tale, highly recommended.
tklivory –
Once Upon a Time: A Tale of Two Assassins – Zevran / Ezio Auditore from
Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood Zevran travels to the strange foreign land of Roma to fulfill a contract. I really just wanted to have the two smexy hot assassins meet. I am weak.
Sresla –
The Nights’ Entertainment – Zevran & Warden / Antivan Legend
I thought this a lovely tale of Zevran telling an old story to his unconscious lover (with some good ol’ fashioned Wynne nose-tweaking thrown in for good measure). This made me want to read more of Sresla’s Zevran and Sandor, and I thoroughly enjoyed the obvious love that Zevran felt towards the Warden, even during a time where it cannot be acted upon or even acknowledged. Very sweet, and quite well written.
Shadow of Light Dragon –
Thedas NightsOriginal Post MP3 resulting from the shananigans of the Original PostSeriously, Shadow, stop being so ridiculously awesome! This post is late because instead of judging entries, I was recording! *grumble, grumble*
-------------------------------------------------
The response to this prompt was overwhelming and massively, ridiculously awesome! Like I said, I put together the
Thedas Nights MP3 as a gift to all of you for bringing so much love to the table (so hopefully ya'll like it

)
Still, now I have to pick
one? ONE??? Why, Maker, why?

In the end, I think the entry that combined
all the aspects of a good crossover: true-to-character writing of the characters in each world, allowing the 'lore' of both worlds free rein, and still was able to tell a compelling story from start to finish was best on display in
Klidi's story,
The Boys Who Lived. It was evident that Klidi greatly loves both settings, and put forth an awesome effort in making the worlds interact with each other. The final tip towards this story was the undercurrent of the elves and how they are treated in each world, and the similarity therein.
There was not a single entry that was not less than excellent (except mine, o' course), and I really want to thank everyone again for all the hard work. Fantastic work, everyone!
--------------------------------------
Now, as for the next prompt, I think the next prompt would normally go to Bloodsong Vengeance. If Bloodsong's not available, then I believe that Klidi would provide the next prompt (as Zaxarus I believe said that he would be unavailable due to holidays?)
So, congratulations,
Klidi! Let me know what you want for your prize!
