that's... bad right?

a motivational?  oh, i see, to motivate airam to get on with his story so you don't embarass him further?  ;)

okay, for you ezio/zevran crossover fans... i found a funny thing on my way around youtube.
entitled "ezio meets zevran."  don't watch it so much as listen to it.  and i'll warn you, 'zevran' gets pummelled. but he makes a new friend in the end.

oh look... "ezio meets zevran 2."

you guys all already have this game, dont you?? :P

Prompt: Long Nights in Orzammar

There seems to be an unspoken rule that when people enter Orzammar, they have to sample some of the fine dwarven ale. But such imbibing can often lead to trouble, humor, secrets spilled, etc.

Maybe Zevran gets drunk and shares a secret; maybe the Warden gets drunk and Zevran has to spend all night taking care of him/her. Or heck, maybe someone else gets a little too tipsy and pushes Zevran and the Warden into an awkward situation.

I just wanted to let you guys know that I'll be judging the prompt a little bit later than intended, but I will be doing them tonight. I didn't want anyone to wonder why it was a bit later. Sorry if this causes anyone any inconvenience ._.

Okay!

Klidi
Non-Entry - Paragon of Drinking

Klidi starts off with a too funny story about drunken Air. I couldn't help but laugh at how the crazy kid managed to ninja all of the drinks!

Bloodsong
Time: 2 hours
Prompts: 2
Entry: The Drinking Game

Bloodsong tips the cup with a very funny story about Bannon playing the drinking game, cheating, and then embarrassing Alistair XD

Corker
Time: 1 hr
Prompts: 6
Entry: Abelas

Corker finishes things off with a beautiful story filled with sweet cheerfulness that blends into tear-jerking heartbreak.

And the Winner Is...
Corker!!!

I just loved how such a short story managed to convey so many different emotions, and the writing was so fluid and beautiful.

Great job everyone! ^^ I scoured my brains out trying to think of a prompt that hadn't been done yet, so I'm glad you guys enjoyed it :D

Um, I think I'm supposed to say who's turn it is to do the next prompt, and I think it's Corker's turn, but I'm not positive. Could someone tell me if I'm correct or not?

congratulations, corker!  great stuff, as always  :)

as far as i can tell, only corker knows who's next....

okay, i'm not sure this will fit here, but we'll see.  Zevran, being Awesome on a Horse:

"Hey, Asleena, look at me, cause I'm ridin' on a horse (ridin' on a horse)
I'm on a horse (I'm on a horse)
I'm on a horse
Take a good look at me being awesome on a horse!"

i'm reminded, after so many years away, how much i hate poser facial expressions.  i just threw this together fairly quickly, from a scene i had from before.  except for the time spent converting the clothes to fit zevran so he could wear 'hellbent for leather.'

ps: Shadow, can i post your song on my devart page?

The idea is that the person with the fewest number of prompts goes; not sure how many Klidi's done, but two is pretty low for BV.

OTOH. we came up with that rule when the folks participating were all more or less even for prompts. Now we've got the Mid-Guard (not really the Old Guard) with 4-6 prompts mostly idling while the New Guard catches up. It might be time to zero out everyone's prompt total or something.

I have also 2. To start from the zero again is a good idea, otherwise it would take quite some time till we're all equal.

Prompt: Rinna - Not Dying

Can you believe it?  The very first prompt was "what does Rinna look like?" but other than that, we've had nothing on the lady.

Tell, show, or otherwise display something about Rinna and/or Zevran and/or Taliesen - something besides her ignomious death.  A pulse-pounding job, a raucous night in a tavern, a tender moment stolen on the shore... show me (with words, music, images, as you like) a strong character I can see Zev falling for.

Time: 3 hours
Medium: Any
Deadline: Tuesday, February  27th @ 8am EST
Prize: I'll do a custom story or a poem for the winner.

Note the morning (EST) deadline.  I'd put it at Monday night, except I know I won't actually have the time to review anything on a weeknight.  So I may as well let it go til the next morning. :)

Ohoh, interesting prompt. I'll have to look after more infos about Rinna apart from Zev's little story. I remember a good video about Rinna somewhere.

And it is done. Part 1 of my Amell-Cycle had ended today. Part 2 (about witch-hunt) will start in short time. I'm only wondering if i should try to elaborate more. I used only 111k words for the full DAO-part, others wrote 300+ for the same.
And Zevran really needs more love in my story. In part 1 he was the only one left without some deep romance (even Alistair got his Leliana), the night with an unconscious Amell not being a very good compensation i fear.

omg, congratulations, zaxarus! i can't wait til i get a whole book done ;X that must feel good. or else sad, since it's over... or both. but i think you should be proud! so many unfinished works around....

but anyway, on the topic of this week's prompt... i'm kinda curious what everybody's take is on the early crow training. because the way i'm reading it, the crows kept the kids kinda like animals and had them actually weed each other out with all the strife and competition. which then kinda begs the question, how do adult crows get along together if they were children in the same cell that were competing with each other? how do you guys picture all that working?

Great prompt, Corker! I'm definitely going to write this one!

@ Zax, wow that's awesome! So... does it mean you'll write more Nemain now? *pokes Zax* Say yes!

@ Bloodsong - I think they're still competing with each other - they cooperate because they have to, but it's not friendship or trust, it's just pragmatic. They are polite to those above them, rude to those below them, neutral to their equals, but always ready to stab anyone in the back.

Forumite maradeux did a lovely series called An Assassin's Childhood that took an in-depth look at Crow training.

But 'how do I see it working'? I don't think that I do, except "dramatically." There are definitely violent groups that take and train child soldiers, but not into highly-trained special operatives like the Crows. From what I understand, to really do that kind of work takes yes, a certain hardened mindset, but also a deep trust in one's comrades. Otherwise, you're too busy CYA (covering your *ahem* assets) to get the mission done. You have to know the other guy has your back because there is no margin.

Even the original Assassins were said to be bonded together in absolute devotion to the Old Man in the Mountain, right? Assured of a place in paradise for their work, they didn't score kills by elaborate traps but just by willing to die to get the job done.

The Janissaries are maybe close, with their recruitment of boys and strict discipline, but they certainly weren't set upon each other as a sadistic training exercise. They formed tightly-bonded units.

I'll be interested to hear a counter-example. But if in all the really awful things we've done over the centuries, we've never had a system like the Crows produce agents like the Crows, I tend to think that kind of system wouldn't actually work.

Which means, in a story, it can work in whatever way seems the most dramatic or useful. So - a shifting morass of tentative alliances, sudden betrayals, and elaborate schemes; an array of emotionally damaged characters carrying the results of their childhood abuse into the present.

okay, i see it making more sense out of the murky depths.

the thing is... personally, if you are/were my enemy in childhood, you'll always be my enemy. there's no way i wouldn't kill those kids who messed me around when i was stuck in there with them. there's certainly no way i'd fall in love with any of 'em. but that's just me.

i was also thinking... i had originally had each cell with its own pool of ... whaddya call em, the kidz. but it might make more sense if there were, say, several creches, and the cell masters picked their apprentices from different ones? that way, the teen/adult crows wouldn't necessarily know each other.

though once they 'graduate' from the creche to apprenticeship, i would figure that, 1: they'd be given quarters and meals and such and taken out of constant competition, and 2: their obedience to the master supercedes personal vendettas... at least until they can get away with them without the master being the wiser.

or... it's entirely possible that total anarchy is impossible. humans (and elves) tend to band together in groups for mutual protection. so... hmm... it might've been possible to have allies. though, yeah, 'tentative' allies at best.

will contemplate more. or at least throw scraps into the pit of my brain and let it gnaw on them. any other insights or ideas welcome. :)

Uh, so, I wrote a thing.  Because Rinna.  I like her.  And if she hadn't been killed, I doubt the Crows would have suffered both herself and Zevran to live.

@Bloodsong
"good and sad", yes that's it. But to lighten my mood i've planned to write 3 sequels, the first i'll hopefully start in no more than a week. I've especially left some loose ends in my story.

@Klidi
Your wish is my command. :)
I've already waited far too long for another Nemain-story. Here is my sequel to my Dalish/Nemain-moments.
Leaving Marks
Should be continued shortly with a Zevran/Nemain-closeup.

@All
I hope i've not asked this before, but i need your help with a vocable.
Which word (one word or compound-word) would you use to describe a gorgeous woman? I mean a woman simultaneously very classic 'female' (housekeeper and female charms) and a strong mate, determined and spirited.
A woman a war-chief would like to have at his side or how Oghren would describe his Felsi.
In the dictionaire i only found the word "stunner" but i wasn't sure that this would really describe what i meant.

@BloodsongVengeance, almost forgot: I actually also wrote an essay on the Crows. It was August 2010 when I wrote it but looking it over, I think it still makes sense.

@Tellervo, OMG a prompt entry! *happy dance* I hereby consider my prompt selection a win if it drew you out of hiding to participate. :)

@Zaxarus, "stunner" is probably not what you want. It's mostly about appearance, and also conjures images of 1920s and 30s American gangsters (for me, anyway). "A queen" or "queenly" might work, as it suggests a dominant, regal spirit that is explicitly feminine.

@ Zax:
well, still more good than sad, i hope. now it's complete, and you can always go back and read any of it :) plus everybody starting out can look forward to an entire work.

yes, 'stunner' is exactly the wrong word. it means pretty, glitzy, glamorous... looks nice and has not a single thought in her brain.
anyway... i'm not sure what type of word or what usage you want for it. as a description of a woman, or as a 'pet name' sort of thing? if you're looking for strong, powerful, fearless... 'tigress' or 'lioness' might do nicely. i think a war-chief would especially like a lioness, as they work in groups doing all the hunting and child-rearing. the big cats are also usually considered good-looking.

@Corker:
thanks a bunch for the essay! good points, and helps me organize stuff my mind has floating around. i think the underlying principle is right, too. keep it vague and 'dramatic' and it will work ;X

btw: thanks for this prompt. i didn't think i was going to get anything in for this one, but... well, i woke up feeling sick in the middle of the night and figured out a story as i tried to get back to sleep. i'll post that shortly. or soonish.

WARNING: mature content.

okay, i put this on my forum instead of here on bioware, because i think it might be too much for the bioware level of content.  keep in mind that NONE of the bad stuff is explicitly described, but it is in there.  so this is not a fluffy zevran/rinna thing.  this is zevran is an evil 17-18-year-old heartless assassin thing.  there is murder, blood, mutilation, and sex.  sometimes at the same time.

this is zevran and rinna's first meeting, and first job together.  also with taliesin.  it isn't your typical zevran/rinna/taliesen trio, either.  like i say, they've just met and haven't gotten into the groove of things yet.

i'm not 100% happy with the writing on this one.  there's a couple parts where it is awkward, and the end didn't come out the way i wanted to convey things.  but that's the way it goes.  it is what it is.  i'm not sure if it is or isn't canon to the bannon & zevran story; although at this point there is no reason why it couldn't be.

ps:  i was reading back through some of the prompts... didnt shadow have something -- an alterna-prompt i think -- about rinna?  like an alternate universe where rinna didn't get killed and how that made zevran's whole storyline and motivations different.  actually, maybe we can try that one again sometime?  especially if people didn't have time to try it the first go-round?
