i think that's more the norm for the hardcore DA fans. i, myself, have this problem with conflicting urges. i want to play the game more, and try the different characters and decision paths and all, but sometimes i just don't want to go over the same old ground in ostagar and orzammar and all. and sometimes i really, really enjoy a game, so i don't want to play it and finish it, because then it will be over. yeah, i'm screwed up.

are the bugs you're talking about with zevran's romances/options in DA2, or did you mean the ones in DA? (and didn't you fix those? the latter, i mean?) i haven't yet played DA2 with an import where zevran was alive (yeah, i've only played DA2 once). i want to. someday. but that game... you know. eh.

I was talking about DA2 -- you're right that I did fix all of Zevran's bugs in DAO (bah, I'm sorry that they didn't get incorporated in an official patch).  I looked into the talk table of DA2 and found a bunch of dialog that didn't trigger.  For instance, Zevran, if involved with the warden, has alternative dialog where if Hawke flirts with him, he turns him/her down.  Same with if Isabela is in the party.  While the mod that has a workaround for the import bug allows for the proper codex to appear, his dialog is still bugged to hell (for one of the flirts, he gives the dead-warden line, but he'll still have sex with Hawke which isn't supposed to happen).

I posted the missing lines elsewhere.  I'll try to find those since it would be less work than hacking into the talk table again and then finding the lines (I've changed hard drives not too long ago, so I don't have a lot of my old stuff readily accesible).

ETA: Here's a post of mine about it. I think there were more lines that I didn't post here, but it gives a good idea how the romance was supposed to go in the future, even if the lines didn't actually happen in DA2.

Second edit: ToP... Hmmmm.  How about Zev and Aedan?  In this playthrough, I tried to do the Leliana and Morrigan romances, but I ended up so confused by them that I just ended up with Zevran again.  I asked my husband if women really were that confusing, and he just said, "Yes, but I love you anyway."

Yeah, I kinda like that he's supposed to NOT do anything with Hawke, but the fact that it's bugged bothers me a lot.

It bothers me as well. It's nice to know the writers' intent for him, and I love the romanced codex entry, but it would have been awesome hearing Zevran talk about the warden.

I figured out how to get Leliana and Morrigan in bed.. Leliana was incredibly hard to romance. @.@ But I don't think I'll try those again, I'm gay, so I found it rather weird even trying. Just wanted the achievements really. lol

I've found a decent fan fic where the male warden goes after Zevran in Antiva recently. Unfortunately, it was unfinished. They haven't posted a new chapter in about a year (though they seem to still be posting fan fics in general, so maybe they just needed a break?). Anyway, there were two, one being the sequel to the other and the second part was very good. He or she used Zevran's and the male Amell's point of view back and forth and the writing was really good. I am so picky about fan fiction so I was very surprised, but quite disappointed with it being incomplete.

thanks for clarifying. and thanks again for all your hard work patching the game. and YES, good gawd, the developers really ought to have put all the dialogue fixes for everyone in an official patch!

it sucks twice as much that you can't mod DA2 to fix it. sheesh. (not that you, personally, have to do it, but i mean for anybody.)

my 3rd playthrough, my mage, was supposed to be actually very much like leliana and they were supposed to become best friends. uh... after talking with leliana through 1/3rd of the game, still haven't made any headway even with that. morrigan wasn't that hard for my 'charming rogue' to chat up. (in fact, that's the guy who i made for zevran, and getting morrigan interested in him was completely a mistake. lol! whoops!) but leliana, i don't know. geeze.

i use my favorite resort... the feastday prank/gift pack! best five bucks i ever spent. (or 2 or however much it is.)

this is from zevran's point of view, about how a crazy kid mage turned his life upside down. airam has his own issues that he needs to deal with through the story, as well. definitely not a quick pick-up line and trip to the tent for those two. if you like slowly-evolving relationships, this is a good one.
also, venti has a collection of deep, meaningful zevran stories there on ffnet, under that community tab. check those out, too.

this is in progress, and will probably go on for the next decade or so.... bannon is my 'charming rogue,' liar, thief, city elf. he manages to annoy zevran almost as much as zevran annoys everyone else. and those two together drive everyone nuts. they have a very strange and convoluted relationship. also very slowly developing.
it's in pieces, so look for the stories prefixed with B&Z. yeah, i didn't want to end up with a 100+ chapter single 'story,' so it's broken up. origins is the blight fic. after that, there's a couple more books....

the hunt is complete, the kill is not. and these aren't zevran romances. the hunt takes place after the blight, when asleena cousland tracks down alistair. it's actually a sort of love-triangle between the three of them. and exceedingly well-written.

 I'll have to take a look at those fics, I plan on writing one myself soon too. Going to start a game over for that for more inspiration, and the line from one of the senior enchanters that says "An idealist I see. Well if you're going to change the world better get started, there's a lot of world to cover."

First part is Chains and the other is Nations and Ages. I can't seem to get the links to work the way I want them to...

The first part happens just after the Archedmon is slain and kinda between-during the events of Awakening, while in Nations and Ages he decides he has to go to Antiva to possibly rescue Zevran. it's very well written, but as I said, unfinished.

Oh good, some life in the thread.

DA2 definitely took some of the attention away from DAO before its prime was over, despite not being (in my opinion) as good, but yeah. Especially on the kink meme and in various character gush threads here (though I only ever paid attention to Zevthread).

I'm completely indifferent to DA3. I'll probably play it once for the added canon setting info, though since canon has gotten so inconsistent I'll basically just cherry-pick whatever I find interesting. There's no point in getting invested more than that, especially since bioware has apparently ditched the entire idea of the toolset.

Hm... the sad truth is, I don't remember ANY complete or at least regularly updated multichapter that would cover Awakening and Antiva. If you guys know such story, please please point me to it. Also tell me if you know a good story where Zevran is the main or one of the main characters. It doesn't have to be romance, but it has to be well written and more than just PWP.

Dragon Age 3 - meh. Without the toolset, without the possibility to choose my race and/or origin and with the elves as fugly as they were in DA2... I'm not interested. Maybe I'll play it, but I won't preorder it. I will wait for the reaction of braver DAO fans. xD

@Klidi, I did an AU called Dragon Age: Elvhenan (NSFW) which has elven!templar!Zevran as a main. His lyrium tats predate Fenris's. (Although not Xai Merras's, and I asked SoLD if she was all right with me using the concept in a different way. ) Since it's an AU Blight fic, it's almost more of a collection of scenes than a full story - I skip a lot. AU!Alistair got a lot of love from the readers, but Zev was my favorite to write. (He *is* AU, though, so there's all the loyalty and devotion of canon!Zev but without so much of the Crow-developed defense mechanisms.)

Bone Splinters is a short story. Warden Mahariel let Zevran go after the Taliesen fight, and in my head canon, he joined the crew of the Siren's Call and sailed away. Five years later, he pays the Warden a visit.

I generally reject the 'returns to Antiva' canon, except for my US!Warden:
Birthright, the dialogue-based, screenshot-heavy, thing that was my first DA fanfic. This is the long one. The others are all short.
Incoming!: Half the party has never seen snow outside of a Blizzard spell.
Desperate Haven: That Chanter's board quest where Zev's default 'protect the Warden' tactics always screw me over.
Rouge and Party Makeup: Blame soignee and mousestalker.


I don't have a continuous story telling all the events of Zevran's life afterward, but I have some snapshots:
Fire Goes Out: Weeks/months after the Archdemon
Homecoming: Upon seeing Antiva City
The Antivan Ambassador: This one doesn't read so well, I think. The premise was "Gosh, the DA2 Zev cameo kinda sucked. How *should* my Zevran have shown up?"

I'm about to start a huge fan fiction project regarding the Warden and Champion after/during Awakenings and Dragon Age II, considering they seem to happen at the same time and they both disappear by the end. So... I have something planned, Zevran involved of course. xD Since my character is an Amell, he's related to the Champion of Kirkwall anyway so it just makes a lot of sense to me. I realized my character is actually younger than Hawke too... hmmm

Hahaha Corker, the default tactics one is so true.

I'm back to work on S&S, though it only touches briefly on Awakening at present. And Zev isn't around during that part (like in the game). And then it kind of hops forward a bunch of years to the end of DA2 and then onward into my own random plot. I haven't even touched on the Antiva period yet and may just leave that part unwritten with the ocassional mention of that one time they kicked in doors and murdered Crow Masters for a year.

Though I did just finish a fill the other day that involved a lot of Zevran, so there's that. /totallynotwhatfolksarelookingfor

One of the WIPs open on my computer right now is back in Origins timeline, when Zev and Tannu first meet. I write incredibly out of order. XD

@Klidi -- Yeah, and on tannufilling of course. The WIP with them meeting for the first time isn't online yet, waiting until I have two parts worth at least before I start posting it. (The new completed fill is Miracle Goodnight, which has some BAMF Zev in it.)


@Alexmancer -- I'm glad to know folks are still starting Warden fics, the fandom has gotten a bit quiet (compared to its prime) and could use new stories. And that sounds like a good tactic.

I really hope it works out. I wanna try to keep it as lore-friendly as possible while still coming up with something new. I'm having a hard time finding completed warden fics that I like.

I've recently realized I'm really picky. Though I really liked Chains/Nations and Ages. I'm still looking for more.
