aidana, Ewlar, you may not be aware of The Rocky Horror Picture Show. It is a cult classic move in the US. Tim Curry - the actor who voiced DAO's Arl Rendon Howe - stars as Dr. Frank N. Furter, who looks about like Klidi's got Zevran depicted above.

It is a common practice for fans of the movie to dress up as the characters in the movie, go to midnight showings of the movie and enact the scenes even as they are happening on the screen. The audience gets into the act as well.

So Klidi has shown what Zevran would look like if he were a fan of this movie, going to a showing to act Tim Curry's part. It is not so different from Zev-in-a-tux or Zev-in-motorcycle-leathers or Zev-in-any-modern-clothes. It's an image of Zevran participating in a fun, silly activity that's much-loved by many who participate.

You're not obliged to like it, but Klidi isn't hitting random buttons on the toolset to see how weird he can make Zevran look, either. There's context to this.

Yes, that's vanilla Zev, with MissB's makeup skin, afro hair (hmmm I think that's additional hair) and Spiedercat's eyes. I didn't change the shape of his head, lips or the skin tone. It appears dark, because I added underlight, highlights and added film effect.

I made it because we had discussion with friends about cult movies, and someone mentioned that Zev would rock that look. And I personally think he does.

there's no reason you can't love someone, but still play jokes on them, and dress them up funny. okay, maybe someone's funny isn't funny to you. or looks ugly. you don't have to like it. but it is just for fun. and nobody is getting hurt.

i think corker is right. perhaps ewlar and aidana don't understand the context of the joke.

Frank-n-furter - Zev's done, check. He can stand in for both DA:O and DA2 casts
Janet - Wynne and her magical bosom, of course, or Merrill in DA2
Brad - Alistair, though Sebastian from DA2 would add a whole new level of delicious virgin fun
Riff Raff - Oooo, hmmm... Shale or Genitivi? Though definitely Varric in DA2
Magenta - Leliana and Bethany, of course
Nell - Isabela (both DAO and DA2 casts. It works!)
Dr Scott - Howe in DAO, aaaaand,,, Hmmm, Gamlen in DA2, methinks

Oh, and Rocky Horror himself? The Warden or Hawke, naturally

Are you not interested his character or his actions, or his life?
Do you really want to see him just a cheap ****, and not loyal lover Warden and friend, who is willing to give his life for Hero and loyal to him until death?
He is for you no more than a ****? That's all that you value most in the him character?

And if you like Zevran WHY show it so ugly?
Does not he deserve better?

I know that Zevran had many lovers. This is his personal right.
But sexuality Zevran - it is not his main quality. He is also a great fighter, a loyal friend, a faithful lover of the protagonist.
The phrase "He likes slavery" - I do not understand. Zevran wants to free the slaves. He approves of murder Kaladrius and Vaughan.

By the way, I like your picture, Zevran and a guy with a book. It is beautiful. You can draw beautifully. Do not waste your talent on stupidity.

A question for aidana and Ewlar:

This thread has been active for years. Many of the people you accuse of not valuing Zevran have, in fact, been writing stories about him, drawing pictures of him, discussing minutiae of his life, and overall loving the character - the good, the bad, and the ugly - for a very long time. These are the people I would turn to first if I had a question about characterization that I could not answer myself. We have had many discussions and explorations of the character of Zevran, and those discussions and explorations have happened over the course of those months and years.

And yet you are coming in here and judging them all on the basis of perhaps two pages of posts. And you are telling them how to spend their time. And you are telling them what they should think, because you believe that you are 'right'.

That is not very polite. It is, in fact, blatantly rude, trollish and condescending. Zevran himself would laugh at the way you are drawing such incorrect conclusions and continuing to pursue the issue long past when it should have been dropped.

And I would also be careful about putting words into anyone's mouths, either Zevran's or Mr. Gaider's. They are not you. Your interpretation of Zevran may not agree with what some people say, but that does not align with our interpretations. We are not wrong in how we appreciate his character, but you are wrong to call others out on how they should do so.

And, for the record, Mr. Gaider has a tremendous sense of humor regarding Zevran, and all the characters in Dragon Age.

We are willing to debate Zevran and discuss his character. We are not willing to be condescended to or lectured by those who have not bothered to learn about our community, Especially ones who seem to have such a limited, narrow view themselves.

Uh... I wanted to reply, but I realised it's a waste of time. Aidana, Ewlar - you know what, if you think that different hairstyle and makeup turns someone into a sex object, a cheep prostitute, then go ahead. I couldn't care less.

I'll keep see beauty in what I like and make my art the way I like and write my story the way I like, and ignore the trols.

Edited to add, that the beautiful picture of Zevran and Airam is not made by me, but by DoorbellSpider. It's a fanart for my story Failed to Fail and it's so romantic and gentle, because she couldn't stand how the story shows Zevran as a cheap ****. (just in case - that was sarcasm).

I'm sorry, I don't understand what you want to tell me.

I'm not an artist.  Not at all.  My writing is all over the place and I can't even draw stick figures (I showed my talent for that a long time ago).  And we're not even going to talk about my singing voice.  In the toolset, I made all sorts of various DAO characters having sex -- not just Zevran.  Gregoir and Irving (if I could write, I'd ship them in a fanfic), Morrigan and Leliana (that actually turned out to be my most explicit pic so I've only posted links to it), Zevran and Alistair, Alistair and Morrigan, even Alistair and Oghren.  It's just for fun.

Okay, enough about me.  I love Zevran's character.  If you'd like, you can see what I have to say about Zevran and his romance through the last link in my signature (Zevran romance FAQ).  I love the romance -- it's a gritty romance with a fairy-tale-ish ending that tugs at all the right heart strings.  It's about a man who is stronger and yet more vulnerable than his life should have him.  It's about a man who has the capacity to love and feel who, instead of turning off his emotions during his childhood training, instead learned to mask them.  He's someone who delights in the small things, and bigger things.  He's a cold-blooded, unapologetic murderer who did learn regret and, if treated well, learns that he is so much more than that.  He's a surviver, who lives life to the fullest he can.  Ahhh, squee.

Not many people spend a lot of time creating stories, art, or whatever if they don't love their muse.  I think your offense at the Zevran picture is due to a cultural thing -- if you've never been to the Rocky Horror Picture Show, you can't understand.  Think of it as a costume party or masquerade with a particular theme.

Zevran hates slavery.  He hates that he was a slave, even while acknowledging that it gave him a better life than most elves in his situation would have had.  But he does say, at least with some dialog choices, that he likes some kinky sex play which includes domination.

And of course he is far more than just his sexual history.  In fact, breaking past that and getting to the man is what makes the romance so wonderful.

But finally, Zevran is a fictional character.  I get the strong feelings, as I'm someone who devoted hundreds of hours scouring the toolset to try to get him as bug-free as possible so I could see the romance as it really was meant to play out.  But all in all, you may not like the way someone expresses their affection, but it still is affection.

ETA: If anyone wants to see my Leliana/Morrigan pic, I don't think it's SFW, though I do have stars covering the naughty bits, it's here.  The look on Leliana's face is lultastic, unfortunately.  *grin* Last time I said it existed, I got quite a few messages asking for a link, which is why I'm putting it here proactively!

@klidi - ah well, I was coming over to defend you, but it seems like that's already been taken care of pretty nicely by people who are much more articulate than I am.  Just know that anyone who's ever read Failed To Fail knows how you feel about Zev.
