The romances actually have a different feel to them depending on whether you play a male or a female warden. Both feel extremely true -- the dialog differences are enough that both feel like it's the way it should be. Zevran does relate to a male warden a little bit differently than he does a female. However, I don't think it's a protectiveness towards the female -- I don't get that vibe.

I've offended before trying to explain this so I hope I don't do so now. Zevran respects both a male and a female warden for their strength. And at first, he's more reserved around a male, and more flirtatious and perhaps affectionate with a female. I think this may be why people who play male wardens see the romance quite differently than people who play female wardens. With a male warden, it seems like the barriers have been broken down quite a bit more than with females, but that's because the barriers don't seem as high for a female.

Then again, males can get more information about his upbringing and more information about his preferences -- there's more of an honesty and openness with males, despite the fact that there's more of a reserve as well.

But the romance works very well with both genders. It's very sweet and tender at the end no matter what.

Edit: ToP!  Here's my favorite pairing with a Charsen Gate Kiss!  Zevran and the future queen of Ferelden.

I wouldn't know, I've never romanced him with a female character. I made one female character once to get the achievement for Alistair romance, and then deleted her right away and went back to a male warden for some more Zev lovin'.

I do feel like by the end of the game, you've achieved quite a bit when Zevran's meter changes to love. I've tried romance with all the other characters and seen just how quickly and seemingly easy it is to make them fall in love with you, almost as if their love was worth a lot less to them, especially Leliana who is practically begging you to love her. I accidentally fell into a romance with Leliana. I don't even remember what I did, but then she was stumbling over her words and telling me she wished we were more. I was baffled. What had I done to get her to that point?

With Zevran, it sorta feels the other way around. It feels like you're the one groping for the real relationship and when you finally win his love, it feels all the more sweet.

To be fair, Leliana's romance is extraordinarily bugged. You can sneeze and the romance flag is raised. The mods that fix it even it out quite a bit.

With gifts, all romances can proceed too quickly. If you are *trying* to get the other character's favor (which, honestly, is an easy trap to fall in to if you really like a character), then Alistair can seem particularly easy. However, I've seen people complain about how impossible Alistair is to romance, so it must boil down to how people play the game.

When I RP (and use all the mods that fix the errors), I think all the romances are equally well-paced, in terms of the overall arch. Each one has different landmarks along the way, but I've had Wardens who, when played in character, were never able to surmount Zevran's sudden intransigence about sex, Alistair's initial unwillingness to jump in bed, Leliana's inability to let her guard down, or Morrigan's belief that love is a weakness. Some of those Wardens moved on to someone else, some just stopped romancing *anyone*. Granted, I've played both genders about equally, but that's my experience when I've done pure roleplay and haven't used any gifts whatsoever.

I don't think he's acting as a protector and owner towards a female. Rather, he acts as a gentleman in that time. He's from Antiva, where it's not usual for a woman to wear a weapon and fight - in that regard, Antiva is much more traditional and conservative than Ferelden.

What I like about romance with Zev is that it feels natural - we talk together, we laugh a lot together, we flirt - and we end together. With Alistair, for example, it's always difficult for me. Mostly because Alistair is witty and sarcastic but Maker forbid you do the same - you immediately get big disapproval. So I always have to think carefully what will I say - it takes away all the fun. And even after a long and tiring talk, I get maximum +2 approval.

I can understand why others may prefer other romances - every character is deep, and offers more if you get close with them than at the first sight. That's why I love and still play DAO. But for me, Zevran is the "right one".

M-elf + Zevran = most harmonious and long novel. My fanfiction series about love Ewlar Mahariel and Zevran.

But each has its own parallel universe. Let each of your hero, who loved Zevran will be happy with it.

Yeah, Zev really rolls with the punches. He's prefect for social interactions and fighting.

My Mahariel had two swords (strength + agility), and Zevran - two daggers. Together they flee to the enemy. If the Mahariel attacked, then Zev runs to help.

"Doliytsy first time so close to see the nightmare, they look at us, admiring our courage and fighting skills. Course, none of them knew that the knife can cut off the head, and the circular sweep of the two long blades cut four enemies" ... / what a terrible translation haha / ...

Very spectacular battle scenes.

Zevran seems to attack anyone my character attacks, regardless of what I set up his tactics to do. But... my character is a melee mage, so I suppose setting them to attack nearest enemy does end up to be the same one. Tank mages ftw?

What are you doing?

I seriously don't get the folks who come in to troll these aging forums. If you're looking to stir up manure, Tumblr seems to be where it's at right now. The Dragon Age Confessions Tumblr regularly gets confessions that get upwards of 100 reblogs, often with plenty of sniping, eyerolling, hostility and frustration. I see some go upwards of 200 at least once a week or so.

Even around here, the DA:I forum is the happening place. Is it too heavily modded? Are people coming back to the older forums precisely because they're quiet and empty and infrequently posted-on, in the theory that the mods aren't looking?

I just... to the extent that I understand troll-logic at all, the goal is to walk into a place, post something inflammatory, and then giggle when people react, right? But there's hardly anyone here to react to you, and mostly they'll offer you some cookies or something. ejoslin may post a dwarf kiss.

So really... what's the motivation here? I ask because you're not the first troll to suddenly pop up in these forums. Is there a migration going on? What's the story?
