...Also, I made a thing:

That Word - pg1 (of 2)
Aaaangst angst angst... the next page is nice, though. I haven't done actual romance art of Tannusen and Zevran since freaking 2010, soooo that needed fixing.

And happy (new) page 300, Zevthread~ I think that may be right around where I joined the original one.

Now, it didn't start as a troll thread or anything, it's just that the guy could not understand why people would like him and wanted people to explain it to him.

You know, I always found it funny that a Zev-hater started the original ZevThread. What was really cool was a year or so later he came back after playing a game where he romanced him, and completely changed his mind.

The first time I played the game, I told myself I would not romance Zevran...

when people say, like, 'well, he betrayed my other character.' yeah.... but what's that have to do with your current character? using metagame god-mode knowledge is kinda against RP, ya know
it's like my friend who says he hates anora, because she screwed over his first character. and yeah, okay, but anora doesn't screw over EVERY character....
i mean, i understand a PLAYER hating a character. not necessarily for the things they've done, though. i mean, some characters just rub people the wrong way. or you hate their voice. or both. (::coughisoldecough:
also, to the russian contingent:
aidana, ewlar, your posts sounded very angry. and insulting.
again, you called people 'vile' over choices in a game.
you mocked people's choices. you called them 'scared.'
i do not know what tone you meant to use.
but it did not sound nice.

It's always best to not get angry with trolls -- that is exactly what they want. I like talking to them seriously -- sometimes you get great discussions and sometimes they get more and more offensive trying to get a reaction; usually they just leave.
However, I do understand why someone's previous experience with a character affects them on subsequent playthroughs. Alistair went through hell in my later playthroughs because of his dumping and then suiciding on my warden. That was a seriously intense game, and since I literally suffered a broken heart, I did in the game what you cannot do in real life -- DO OVERS!
Then again, my first play went kind of like this -- romanced Alistair on a city elf, fell in love, had dreams of them lasting forever and him being king. I didn't know to harden him, and of course I didn't, which meant he dumped her after she made him king (mistress would have been fine, but yeh, that didn't happen). She turned to Zevran; when he offered the earring the first time but was so non-committal, I was all "screw this, am NOT going through being dumped again" and turned it down, thinking we could be FWB. Anyway, so I ended up with Zevran proposing, then Alistair suiciding.
Romancing Alistair again was completely out of the question, and ending up with anyone but Zevran was also completely impossible. I made a male warden to get the Morrigan achievement, and in the end, he still ended up with Zevran as well.

I love when they act offended at being called a troll, too. It's like... dude, it's three years later and we could still be using this for a drinking game.
And this has all been said hundreds of times before, but I feel like rambling so I will. I always lol when they use the "he betrayed me!" excuse, too, though. Like, yes, you never spoke to him. He attacked the Wardens in order to commit suicide-by-Warden (which is 100% canon, for any Zev-haters reading this), then he spends about a year following the Warden around while remaining a passing aquaintance/tool for the Warden's war.
Then his only friend shows up, and Zevran knows that whether he helps Taliesen or not, the dude's gonna die. So he stands with him instead of betrying Taliesen, in a final attempt to die in a blaze of glory and so as to not betray the one person he considers a friend.
Remember, no matter what Zevran does in that situation, he has to betray someone.
So, I'm sorry but you've gotta do more than let a suicidal Zevran live if you want him to betray his Crow-bro. I don't know why this is so hard for people to understand. I think their anger is misdirected; it's easier to be mad at the character than to be mad at themselves for being dumb.
Because, I mean, even if you don't intend to befriend him, why would you have him traveling with you for a year and not even try to scope out whether he's loyal or not? It doesn't take much to bump him out of neutral. If he betrays you, it's your own damn fault for being dumb and not even checking him out.

Honestly, I wouldn't be in this fandom if Zevranites were half as easy to offend or scandalize as the rest of the fandom is. And Zevthread + wall shenanigans are the only reason I come to BSN. I've started to super-casually lurk once in a while in the Fenris thread, but I expect to get run out of town every time I post anywhere but here. XD
And I've never posted in the Al thread even when I've done some stuff involving him. Mostly because there's a core group of batsh*t crazy in his fandom, and if they're not in that thread I can pretty much guarantee that they'd show up if I posted.
I mean, the one fandom group I've ever left was super early in my being in the fandom, and it was Al-centric. And then the mods posted a day later claiming that they'd kicked me out. XD Because that's totally how it works. And the one time I've had a flame-war errupt on a picture of mine was the one time I drew Alistair.
Knowing that his fanbase is spread out over the DA2 LIs makes things a bit odd for me. I know not all Alistair fans are nuts (*) and I know we have some overlapping folks, plus one of my roommates is primarily an Al fan. But holy balls, do I bring out the crazies in that sect.
(( * = the fact that I even have to make that disclaimer in the Zevran thread says a lot, I think. There's so much insanity out there that I'm concerned that they may storm the gates here just to spray me with crazy. ))

I can understand though, the crowd of people that enjoyed games like DA:O, Neverwinder and Balder's Gate have mostly left because of the new, more casual gaming fans. The newer Bioware games are more tailored to those casual fans and less so to people like us. At least that's how I see it. I certainly don't feel right going around BSN to find other interesting threads.

This place IS the best on BSN. My private, biased theory is that it's because Zev attracts people that are not so conservative, more open minded.

...Which, again, isn't to say that's all that's "out there", but we seem to mostly keep that nonsense filtered out of our corner. And I think the character himself is to thank for it.
Also I've noticed Zevranites also tend to have gone through some crap before; abusive parents etc etc. Or they've seen it happen to others. So we're more likely to understand his damage. The Al fans who compare Alistair's past with Zevran's with the idea that they're somehow even slightly similar in scale are the ones that really make my eyes roll on that point.
Being neglected by his adoptive father-figure and made to sleep in the stables and then sent off to the Chantry (all places where he was fed and housed and could reasonably expect to not be raped/tortured/thrown in an oubliete with festering wounds) is a fancy and upscale background compared to a Crow. Is it a little sucky? Sure. But you know what? Zevran probably dreamed of such a life as a kid. I know I would have preferred it to mine. XD
So yeah, filters. People who bounce off them tend to be people I'd just offend or shock by dint of existing, anyway. I can generally predict how well I'll mesh with someone by what they have to say about Zevran, even if they don't identify as a Zevran fan. People who go "but he's just a ____" I tend to back away from, quickly, because they're going to say the same things about me as soon as I open my mouth. XD
...Oh, durr. I came here to post BBH page 3 and totally got side-tracked. XD So here it is:

Black Black Heart page 3
Although it's not like it's just Alistair fans who are cray-cray. I've been called homophobic on the kink meme before, which is just... rofl. Though the anon didn't know it was "Tannu-anon" they were accusing. People are just really touchy and I tend to trip right over everyone's sensibilities and land right in a hot vat of trouble, but because Zevranites tend to be mellower and think around corners better, I rarely have that effect on fellow Zev-fans.
Now, for all I know that was a Zev-fan, too. XD But it still happens soooooooooo much less often even if it was.

I'm preeeeeeeeeeetty sure that a picture of Zevran and Leliana making out wouldn't cause nearly as big of a fanspat as Zevran and Alistair though.
In the eternal lyrics of Payroo..."Alistair the Warden is so pure."

But I'm willing to assume there's reasonable and thoughtful people in all corners, even in the Al fandom. But the crazy there is undeniable; even Aimo has gotten crap for drawing him with a girl dwarf instead of a cousland. So, Alistair and anyone other than princess couscous causes drama.
It's a shame because I like Al as a character, but there's that crazy core to his fandom, and ain't nobody got time for that.
Meanwhile Zevfandom has Zevran himself minding the front door. If you bounce off him and write him off as "too slutty" or too much of a "heartless killer" or "too dangerous" (let's ignore that both female LIs overlap with him on all three points -- and no I'm not calling anyone slutty, that's what other people use. They're all either promiscuous or have been in the past, though, which is why people call Zevran that!) ...then you're probably not cool enough for us anyway. XD
The Crows themselves call him whoreson and tell him he's worthless. If your opinion of him isn't any better than theirs is, then you're probably either unempathic, unobservant, apathetic, or lack critical thinking, and as a result we're probably not going to be pals. Also I write a lot of explicit smut and you may faint from shock if Zev's in-game lechery is already too much for you.

The thing with Leliana is my first impresion of her was what ppl usually seem to have of Zevran, I was waiting all the time for the backstabing that never ended up happening. Zevran was kinda a relief as an obvious bribable danger for once.
I only seem to know the Zevran fanbase, since you all make him suffer beautifully.

The different fandoms definately have their fair share of hmmmm....."my headcanon, is the right canon", attitude at times. I have seen it even in the two fandoms I post most often in (Fenris and Thane). But, much of those core groups are easy going with each other and newcomers, and can take most trolls in stride. Plus, we are known to have a wicked sense of humor. We often poke fun at our selves and our favorite broody elves and green frog-man. heh! XD
All the LI's in DAO have something to offer, and generally I like them all. I romanced Ali first (had no clue what I was doing the first time I played.....I let Zevran go, because I thought I could only have a "certain number" of companions...LOL), by accident. I didn't know the game had romances. After that first play through I spoiled myself a bit, since I figured I was missing some elements of the game. I tried the Ali romance a second time (on purpose), and enjoyed it well enough.....his character has suited a few of my Wardens so it is nice that he is an option. However, when Alistair broke it off with my second PC (dalish elf), she turned to Zev. Kind of got hooked on Zev ever since. Still have done a few Ali and Morrigan runs, but I tend to have a Zev run going at all times. Sometimes ya need a little Zevran time.
