During a Dalish archer run that's been Zev ever since Lothering, I've come across some good photomoments... One type of such being that of them together- the first time I started to make any substantive note that Zev is, in fact, Dalish...

Posted Image
Zevran: "You enjoy all this romping around in the dirt? Not that I cannot imagine a gloriously filthy scenario of romping around in the dirt, but still-"
Feylathil: "It is the forest, and it is home to more life than will ever be able to grow in the cities. Now, hush, little brother. I'm waxing stoic..."
Zevran: "Little brother, is it? From dangerous assassin to one of the family already. I am moving up!"
Feylathil: "You are accepted by me as I am by my clan, as family. The Dalish would embrace you too if you would only-"
Zevran: "Embrace me with all the romping in the mud they do? I would sooner hug a nug..."
Feylathil: "If you wish to embrace animals, there are halla just over there."
Zevran: "Why? Are they part of our little family too? Wait, don't answer that..."

Posted Image
Zevran: "You know your hair remains unkempt constantly, yes? And leaves and twigs are in it. Tsk tsk. For an animal of the wilds you do not do your self-grooming so well."
Feylathil: "Hush, little brother. You sometimes speak the way a nug squeaks... It pains me between the ears..."

I should read some fan fiction that explores Zev's Dalish side- if there is any. After all his big gift is Dalish gloves even if he's "been there done that" with the Dalish way of life.

Here are just a few of Zev I managed to notice (and snapshot) during Feylathil's travels...

Posted Image
"Let me explain to you about the birds and the bees... Hm, on second thought I will stick to the dwarves and the elves and the humans..."

Just one of Zev looking generally ridiculously awesome...

Posted Image

Also taken during the discussion at The Pearl with Queen Anora- *ahem* I mean, Isabela. Zev does look good reddened in firelight... that devil...

Posted Image

At the Circle Tower Zev went fully devil, it seemed...

Zevran among the Dalish? Try maradeux's An Assassin's Childhood.

Give her style a chance to grow on you. maradeux has a very poetic, syntactically complicated style... in German. Those are her translations. I've beta'ed for her, and she has an absolutely fantastic, solid grasp of how she wants the language to feel. It's very different from our usual genre-styled writing, and sometimes there are bumps in the idiom, but she's very good.

I think various folks have done short one-shots touching on it here and there, but maradeux's is the only one I know of that does a lengthy treatment of Zev's time with the Dalish.

Yeah, mara's the one you want for an in-depth Dalish background with Zev. I did a one shot but maradeux is definitely worth checking out for the reasons Corker said. :)

Does anyone know why Facebook is no longer "appears" Zevran?
While the pages of the other characters are supported. Zevran officially "killed" or how to understand it?

Another interesting detail. On his blog, Mr. Gaider posted pictures  this author http://andrewryanart...t.com/gallery/.
Aveline, Isabela and Fenris. But Zevran "had not noticed".
Why?
Zevran was drawn so poorly  that it embarrassing to put on a blog?
Or  Mr. Gaider have selective blindness?
Or it suggests that Mr. Gaider gave up his character and now pretends that Zevran does not exist?
So, Zevran is persona non grata? About him are ashamed to mention? Pretend to his does not exist and has never existed?

The same Zevran, who was not  honored to be a blog

Now I'm blushing all over. Thank you so much, Corker and Shadow.  Shortly I published my story on Fanfiction. So you can also find it here. Might be a bit easier to read it that way (and I also revised a few of the chapters).

@Bhryaen - I really like your dialogue - it's so Zevran. :D And thank you for the nice screenshots. :)

Without seeing the blog post, perhaps he was just posting DA2 pictures?

Only DA2 pictures? But Zevran was also in DA2.
(And he is gorgeous, damn it!)

Unfortunately, this is not the first time about Zevran suddenly "forget" to mention. I do not know what the reason. But it seems that his just stubbornly ignore.Like any questions  and mention  about him.
One hope for DAI. If the in DAI about Zevran too will not say anything, then - on the character just put big fat X.

aidana, I'm afraid Zevran won't be in DAI, because not only in DA:O, but also in DA II you had the opportunity to kill him. (You couldn't kill any of the other cameos as far as I know...) It would make me happy to see him again, but I doubt it very much. :-/

And interesting what you say about facebook - I'm not on fb, so I don't know these sides. But if every char (or every romance option?) has one, it would be strange if Zevran's disappeared.

Or they might be nixing Zevran not because he has a death possibility in DAO but because they're bastards- and not the royal kind. (jk) Actually if that's the reason- the killability of the NPC- then he shouldn't have shown up with pig ears in DA2. Also isnt there some un-followable story arc with all the companions- like pissing them off enough to leave or attack you or having Alistair executed? I guess this means there won't be any portability from DA1 & 2 to 3. Uh oh, that's what they did w ME3, isn't it? In any case, with the rarity of play history continuity between DA1 & 2 already, who says Wynne wasn't wandering by after the Warden executed Zev on the road and cast Revival on him just in time?

Zev: "Thank you so much, my timely rescuer. Would you believe that a band of marauders just came through and massacred my troupe of revelers and performers?"
Wynne: "Not really..."
Zev: "No? Ah... I thought as much. Then how about at least affording me a running start, yes?" *vanishes*

Thanks for the links to maradeux's story, Corker and SoLD! I've been trying unsuccessfully to squeeze in the time to immerse in it, but the contents look interesting- will be getting there before my current Dalish run is done.

@maradeux
Thanks- though it's more of a characature really. Others know better how to explore sides of Zev that aren't immediately obvious in-game.

Yes, in DA:O you could kill almost everyone. But Zevran was (as far as I know) the only of the cameos in DA2 you could kill. It was like they wanted to be sure he's eventually dead... Also I'm afraid his fan base is not big enough for the effort of another cameo. And I think the priority for cameos will be the DA2-characters this time.

Okay, what *I* found weird was Hawke's reaction to Leliana and to Zevran. With Leliana it was all, "You're THE Leliana? *squee*" and with Zevran, IIRC, there was no "THE Zevran?" and no squee, though there was sexxing if Hawke flirted and doesn't end up c****blocked by a LI.  Yes, I know this is a bug (and one I screamed about loudly), but it's what is there in DA2 regarding Zevran.

I think for people who have a living Zevran, though, there may be mention of him and why the Crows aren't causing the chaos you would think they would be making during the war. Probably a codex entry. But my guess is there would also be a similar codex entry that doesn't mention Zevran -- or perhaps an additional quest for those who saved Zevran putting down some plot or something.

ETA: I do think that Gaider likes Zevran.  He spent a lot of time defending him on all sides.  Zevran was disliked for many reasons by many different camps of people and DG was not shy about defending him.  At the same time, he most definitely does not have the fan base that the other LIs have so they really have no reason to bring him back in the same way.  Though with their attitude, "Our story, ultimately, our playground" they could bring Zevran back as he was left in both DAO and DA2 with a fairly major role in Antiva (leader of the Crows would be the defacto leader of Antiva -- the power behind the figurehead king).

Yeah, it seems, Zevran hadn't bragged as much about his successes as Leliana had. She was probalby No. 1 in all of Thedas chart shows for months with her songs about the Warden and HERSELF. :D

Zevran in DA2 was ... :( His appearance, the whole dialogue in the Varterral cave... The only things I liked about the questline were Nuncio and the new codex entries. :P

I hope Gaider still likes Zevran. And it also would be strange otherwise. Every writer likes their babies. ;)

I have a question. In one of my past playtroughs - it was at least a year ago - I had a dog with me in Brecilian Forest. When I asked him if he sees anything interesting, the brought me a strange dirty root that I 'didn't know what it is for'. And then I had a random encounter, I remember it was somehow related to the root, but not how. It was a pond in the forest, with some kind of nymphs or elves, and I had to help them to get out.

But now I can't find that save, and although I'm travelling to the Brecilian Forest from all directions and get all kinds of random encounters, I can't get that one.

Anyone here remembers what it was and how can I get there?

O.o I've never rescued anyone from a pond in DAO. Maybe it was a mod?

EDIT:  Dog's wiki page mentions that he can dig up a deathroot in the Brecilian Forest/Dalish camp, but it doesn't seem to be quest-linked.

Dog seems to find things on a probabilistic basis; you may just have to keep sending him to look.

Had me intrigued there, Klidi, but I just did a relatively thorough Google search- found nothing about a pond or nymph quest in the Brecilian forest. Maybe you're thinking of something in the Blackmarsh in Awakenings or in DA2?

I've been reading maradeux's early Zev- from the beginning rather than just the Dalish part. It reminds me of Sherwood Anderson's Winesberg, Ohio- at least with the matter-of-fact delivery, reductionism and lack of embellishment, very localized and focused feel, and short story format for a single story. I'm also reading SoLD's "Hunt" which is so well written that I stay interested despite my disinterest in Alistair as a character.

Thank you very much for reading my story, Bhryaen! I feel very honored to be compared to a famous writer like Sherwood Anderson, although I don't know if you like that style. Maybe it's less flattering when I confess it's not intended, I just can't write in another way. I'm quite impatient and when I have a picture in my mind I want to put it on the paper as soon as possible. So everything I write is short and compact somehow. (my poems are usually 10-minute-works)

Shadow is a great writer and "The Hunt" is wonderful. I was like you - started reading it and couldn't stop, because it was so beautifully written. And I'm also not so much interested in Alistair (and so I was very sad in the end *sniff*)

@Klidi - :o now you've made me curious (going to take the dog to the forest...)

ah hah, the mythical nymph pond...  ::suspicious look::

what were you smoking a year ago!?!?!

,,,okay, i read all the brecilian related encounters on the wiki.  no pond full of nymphs.

in a search for 'nymph,' i did find zevran mentioning one.  when he reappears in the fade, at the sloth demon, he demands to know where all those lucious wood nymphs went.

nymph not found as a dragon age nexus description keyword...

Well, I read Anderson's book for a university class decades ago, so I'm no expert, but it left an impression with me that's lasted a long time. Reading your snippets of Zev's past just evoked a similar feeling- one I do like. I could do an essay of contrast, but... The unintended gems are always better than contrived ones. It's like DAO being better than DA2 due to them just doing what they liked and determined to be quality regardless of whiny fans afterward- and consequently turning out a memorable and rewarding storyline to experience.

Just an amusing recent episode involving Zevran... As you may know, when you play the not-quite-illegal Provings fights from that back room, the game auto-teleports the party back to the little room immediately upon winning. However, it does so while retaining everyone in their battle posture- except for the character you were possessing when the auto-teleport happens. In this case I was possessing Zevran. (It's fun to just be Zev close-up watching Feylathil picking off people with his bow, so I'll posses him and just stand him there grinning at the spectacle.) Also upon auto-teleporting back the party is squeezed together somewhat because of how few slots are open to designate for party members in that little room. In this one instance of auto-teleporting it seems Sten had an alternate agenda that he executed immediately upon returning...

Posted Image

Sten: "Right! Everyone back away or I'll decapitate the Warden! You too, elf- back away."
Zevran: "I assume you are referring to me and not Feylathil when you say 'elf.'"
Sten: "I am."
Zevran: "Sten, my large friend... You... cannot be serious."
Sten: "I do not jest, elf."
Zevran: "We have noticed..."
Sten: "Then you know that I follow through with my word."
Zevran: "Just as a matter of advice, my good qunari, you should know that hostage taking usually does not go so well for the hostage taker."
Sten: "I slew an entire family in my shame when Asala was lost to me. Do you believe I would hesitate now?"
Zevran: "Ah, fair point... I suppose... It is just... what are your demands exactly... other than the backing away thing?"
Sten: "I want my Asala now. Not 'when we are in the Redcliffe area again.' Not after the Archdemon is slain. Not after we climb yet another mountain to fetch magical martyr dust-"
Zevran: "It was nice dust though, not your ordinary everyday magical martyr dust."
Sten: "Not after this next illegal Provings contest. NOW."
Feylathil: *ekes out* "We... do not even know... if the dwarf Dwyn has it..."
Sten: "Did you know in advance the magical martyr dust would work?"
Zevran: "I think he has you on that one, big brother."
Feylathil: "Not... helping... little brother..."
Sten: "Yet against my advice you trudged us all deep into a cavern to find it."
Zevran: "Hm, not to mention how he brushed aside your other sage advice about helping the Reavers."
Feylathil: "Definitely... not helping... little brother..."
Sten: "Do not remind me, elf."
Zevran: "By elf, do you mean him or me? You are a very confusing qunari when flustered."
Sten: "The trail grows cold as we wait. Dwyn may sell it himself or throw it in Lake Calenhad or it may be stolen. The window of opportunity may be closing."
Feylathil: "Maybe we... could visit Arl Eamon to-"
Zevran: "Come now, Sten. You long for a steel two-handed sword with only one rune slot when you already have King Maric's own sexy dragonbone three-rune-slot sword instead. Why all this fuss?" *clucks teeth disapprovingly*
Sten: "You do not understand, elf."
Zevran: "See, big brother? You do not understand. For shame. Or did he mean me again?"
Feylathil: "Redcliffe... sounds fine..."
Sten: *pauses* "Now?"
Feylathil: *grimaces stoically* "Now..."
Zevran: "Are you sure? You are close to Level 20, so a few more Provings fights and maybe you can-"
Sten: "You are not helping, elf."
Feylathil: "Just... get that off my throat... and we'll go..."
Sten: *pauses, then releases Feylathil* "That is acceptable. We will leave immediately."
Zevran: "Just holding a knife to your throat is all it takes to have you do my bidding as well then, yes? Something for future reference..."
Feylathil: "Yes, Sten... immediately... immediately after I beat up my little brother..."
Zevran: "That is not helping, big brother!" *vanishes*

Just discovered a new twist to the Ruck fix for Zev's dialog. If you have both Zev and Oghren in the party and choose "I should go," it defers to Zev's reaction, and you get all the right dialog choices, but if you then choose to agree with him ("Perhaps you're right") it switches to Oghren who says, "Sodding right, I'm right!" hehe Not exactly a game-breaker, but just thought I'd mention it...

Just finished A Murder of Crows with Isabela in my party using an import where my Warden romanced Zevran and survives the Blight.
Oh how I raged.

I think this trumps the Alistair-is-in-denial-about-not-being-king scenario in terms of bugs I hate. Orz

I try not to rage too hard at that one, since the dialogue *does* exist for romanced and dead Wardens. It's simply bugged, they'll never fix it, and we don't have a toolset for ejoslin to do it for us. ;)
