I agree. Regardless of the subject, Zevran is good about talking things over and always takes the Warden's wishes into account. He never, ever, ever tries to push you into anything you do not want or are not ready for. As he often says in the romance, "I would never ask any more of you than you are willing to give."

 

He also knows that fighting darkspawn is dangerous, yet he never tries to stop the Warden from doing that.

 

In general, Zevran takes dangers and risks in stride. He knows there are a lot of things in life that can kill you, but would rather not let that prevent him from enjoying life, or letting others enjoy life. If he and the woman he loves are expecting a child, he knows there's a chance the mother might die in childbirth, but he's not going to let that consume his ability to enjoy this blessing with her. Again, Zevran is good about voicing his concerns. If it really bothered him, I can see him talking to the Warden about it--not just sneak tansy into her tea when she's not looking.

To be honest, I have a hard time seeing Zevran as a father. 

 

He's a great guy, very amiable and "look on the bright side," but I've heard fatherhood changes a man and I can't see how he'd react.

 

The closest thing I have for an imagination aid is how he talks to the Dog, especially when Dog gets into mischief, and Zevran is so cheerful and conversational about it. I can almost imagine him being like that with a toddler. 

 

Zevran: I noticed some scribbles on the wall this morning.

Baby: (Happy laugh!)

Zevran: Not that I like to make accusations. And I even appreciate the artistry behind a good scribble when I see it, to tell the truth. But leaving those diapers behind  as evidence, and wandering around the house butt-naked to confirm suspicion? Sloppy.

Baby: (Happy laugh!)

Zevran: (Picks the baby up) I'll take that as an apology.

Baby: (Ecstatic laugh, and hugs daddy around the neck.)

Zevran: I'm so glad you're pleased. (Starts walking.) It really is quite something to find such enthusiasm in one's child at such an early age.

Baby: (Ecstatic laugh, clapping!)

Zevran: I agree. In the future, though, might I suggest we confine your artistic talents to a sheet of paper? I really would like to show these off to the boys at the pub.

 

And oh! Teaching his children about life. Since Zevran's main talents involve assassination and something else he'd get arrested for performing in public, I think he'd lay off teaching his trade to his child. But that's okay, there's so much else he can teach his child about the world. Since all my Wardens who romanced Zevran were "elfy" elven women, I can see at least one of them settling down in the alienage, leading to...

 

Zevran: So your mother would like me to show your the alienage tree. You see it every day when you look out the window, but I suppose a proper explanation is in order. You see: elves plant these trees to remind themselves of who they once were. And then they pee on it. Charming symbolism, really."

Later that night, child repeats this to mother.

Warden: ZEVRAN!

It is pretty crappy, but then again, this is someone who was raised in a whorehouse and whose training as an assassin included training in the seductive arts.  But at least this is Origins, where gifts can compensate for approval drops.

 

(As a side note, I've yet to reach this stage with him, because I either turn him down after 'What do you fancy?' or I start flirting with him as soon as possible.  So I have managed to never unlock those options before. New goal for next M!Warden playthrough!)

 

[edit] I think treating him as a friend just means being accepting of his past as an assassin (or at least not being too judgmental towards him), not pushing him to talk about things before he's ready, and just generally being nice to him.

I haven't played DAO since before DAI came out but I've just started my first game since that time. I'll be picking Zevran up early (right after Lothering) due to a mod. I investigate the answers again, to see what raises his approval. I can't believe how much I've forgotten in a year. I plan to end up in a romance with a Warden Alistair but hope to spend time with Zevran too.

That mod... if I were going to redo my canon playthrough entirely, it would probably be because of that mod.  My M!Surana overheard the gossips in Lothering talking about the mages at Kinloch Hold turning into demons and all but hauled his friends there by main force, before I had any of the Zevran mods installed - so he missed seeing Zev's nightmare in the Fade, with all that it implied about his training and treatment at the hands of the Crows.

In my first walkthrough I didn't know that option is there,in my 2nd walkthrough I found out they could actually do it! My God,now this game just getting more interesting....but knowing Anders and the Warden is back home waiting,of course:

 

 

So I load the previous save file and didn't do it with him...but knowing Zevran is strings free,it's....very interesting!

Seen it on Youtube and experienced it in other playthroughs, but my canon run started out mod-free.  (It didn't stay that way for long!)

My Fenrismancing Hawkes feel bad about even flirting with other people in front of Fenris.  I do like that jealous line he uses, though.

This is why I had to go with the import flag fix, even before an intrepid modder finally fixed the borked Zevran DA2 dialogue for a Zevmanced Warden who survived.  Anything else would have broken my headcanon.

So far two Origin-saves-loaded: one of them Zevran's love sacrificed herself (Actually, she was not really devoted lover: Zevran-romance ran parallel with Alistair-romance, then she persuaded Allistair to married Anora, so Zevran thus became "widow"). In the other save (my main warden) Morrigan was the winner. I have an unfinished warrior-story, he just starting romance with Zev.

That was actually a broken flag. If you import a save where the Warden and Zevran ended up together and the Warden didn't die, Zevran is supposed to politely turn Isabela and Hawke down on account of being committed to someone else.

(If you import a save where they were together but the Warren died, he'll sadly turn you down, saying that he's still in mourning. Note: the Warden had been dead several years by that point.)

Zevran isn't lying when he says he "happens to be a most loyal person," and that he is "no cheat." The devs are just really bad about fixing broken flags that are supposed to acknowledge this.

Until I got that fixed in my games, I wouldn't allow Isabella to go with me when Zevran was around and I didn't choose any options that flirted with Zevran. Now that it's fixed, I don't have to worry about anything except that Zevran got hit with the ugly stick.
