The Milkmaid's Bosom


The four companions had retired to Zevran’s room for an evening game of Knave’s Gambit. Leliana shuffled the worn card deck while Zevran poured the wine and Aithne closed the shutters against the crescent moon and the crisp autumn wind. Oghren was already slouched in his chair nursing a bottle of unknown and certainly dubious origin. Partners were chosen and the cards were dealt. Such relaxing evenings were rare in the turmoil of Alistair’s newly established court. 
 
“Daggers high, my trick.” Zevran set the cards in a neat pile to his right.
 
Leliana laid a card down, ignoring Oghren’s facial contortions as he attempted to signal his partner to adopt a new strategy. “I think I’ll have my new composition done in time for First Day court.”
 
“Does this mean we’ll finally get to hear you sing something besides Demon’s Fall?” Although it was a magnificent piece of music, Aithne was heartily sick of hearing the story of the blight over and over.
 
“Lady of the Forest is the story of the werewolves and the elves. I’ve left the blight mostly out of it. The tale is sad enough on its own.” Leliana hummed a couple of haunting chords.
 
“Sad stories, epic tales, why can’t you bards ever sing something fun?” Oghren groused.
 
“What do you want, songs about that mad hermit in the forest?” Leliana sighed in exasperation.
 
“Now that you mention it, yes. Or, at least a song about the hole in his stump.” Oghren attempted a sly grin. “I seem to recall someone mentioning a funny story about getting a hand caught in a dark hole…. Now that would make a song.”
 
Zevran sighed, “I had forgotten about that.”
 
“The story elf! You can’t say you have a story like that and not tell it. Seems I’ve been waiting long enough to hear it.” Oghren fixed his gaze on Zevran and waited.
 
“Very well. Keep in mind I was young at the time and it was only my second real assignment as a Crow. I was to assassinate the seneschal of a farmhold. The contract requested the death to look as natural as possible, so I managed to obtain a position working as a laborer to assess the situation. I had been on the farm for a week and, as the newest farmhand, all manner of nasty, dirty jobs had fallen to me. I was heartily sick of the situation, but a contract was a contract. Thus, when most of the workers headed to the village for Summerday fair, I volunteered to stay behind.” Zevran sipped his wine and continued, “I spent the morning doing reconnaissance, looking for discrete methods for disposing of the seneschal. As the day warmed I found a nice spot in the shade of a barn for a nap. I was having a most pleasant dream, when I awoke to find it partly reality. There was this magnificent bosom, barely covered by straining fabric, hovering right before my eyes, and this vision was saying something about ropes.”
 
“Get up,” She said. “We need to go now, Gitana is calving and the calf is stuck. I already have the ropes.”
 
“What? I said, the bosom heaving before my eyes. Ropes?”
 
“Come now. She said.”
 
“So I followed her into the pasture and across the stream to find a cow.” Zevran sighed. “It was a cow trying to have her calf, and things weren’t going well. We tied a rope to the foot that was sticking out and then she said I would have to feel inside to find the other foot. I reached my hand into that dark hole, and felt around. There was a head and two more feet. I slid my hand around until I could figure out which of the other feet went with the head and pulled. With the leg straight the calf came out with some pulling, causing a discharge from the other hole at the back end of the cow.” His expression one of disgust Zevran continued. “The milkmaid pulled the first calf forward for the cow to lick off while I went back in for the second one. I was just pulling the twin when the seneschal walked up and demanded that we get the cow to the barn, RIGHT NOW. The cranky old buzzard grabbed the first calf to take it at the same moment as the second calf slid free. The cow jumped up with a bellow, knocked the old man into the stream and stomped on him. By the time she retreated back to her calves the fellow had drowned and my job was done.”
 
Shaking his head, Zevran finished his tale. “I returned to Antiva City covered in bruises and smelling like a cheap brothel.  The soap the milkmaid had given me to clean up was scented with flowers and it took five washings to get all the blood and other things out of my hair. Taliesen was amused, although I don’t think he ever believed the true story.”
 
 
 
Not two weeks later the taverns of Denerim rang with “The Milkmaid’s Bosom”, known in less polite circles as “The Hole Song.”

Love the pic wildannie. I thought about using a mare and foal but cows are so much messier - much more potential for getting icky stuff in Zev's hair. I ended up not doing as much with that as I could have because of the time limit, but it was fun anyway. I've had this rolling around in my head for a while (we had a discussion on the old thread about how Zev would do in our various careers and I am quite sure that Zev would never make it as a vet - to much blood/poop/random gross things in his hair).



@maradeux: thanks, I had fun with it. Poor Zev, his missions are always complicated in unexpected ways.

Thanks Tanith, .... you're absolutely right though, cows are definitely more 'fun', horses are just not gross enough really, not that I'd want to get involved with the messy side of either...

FAST question! Running out the door but I'll check here in a little bit.

I just extended the elf female kiss from 6 seconds to 11 seconds. Everyone who plays an elf female knows what a disaster that kiss is, but it actually is quite nice when extended like that. I didn't do anything else to it, but it goes from being very lame to very sweet.

Would anyone be interested in that? I'll probably put it up as an optional file for ZDF -- I'll call it "fixed female elf kiss" because honestly, I think the original time length WAS an error. The kiss has animations up to 11 seconds that do change, and ends with a very sweet look from Zevran. ANYWAY, I'll FRAPS it as well and put a link up for youtube later.

GAH< my way of saying, while it's nothing like a Charsen kiss, I don't think Charsen fixed this particular kiss (it never showed up for me at least). So if you're interested, it will be up at ZDF I suppose. So no more question. I answered it myself

Edit: Ok, file is up at ZDF and video is here.  Nothing amazing, just an extension of the vanilla kiss.

@ejoslin: Ah, funnily enough, I was just redownloading my mods after doing a system wipe (upgrade to Windows 7) and was so excited to see 9/18 as the update. Definitely snagging that!

*grin* I'll be doing a further update to ZDF soon. Leliana has a few more issues that I'm still trying to decide how is best to resolve (the post-Marjolaine conversation -- no matter what the script notes say, it doesn't make sense the way it was intended). Once I make a final decision on this, I'll update ZDF. I gave an almost finished file to the Leliana thread who liked the way I did it, but it is such a huge lore change, I just can't decide!

Edit: I think my human noble attachment started because of those broken elf/dwarf Zevran kisses!  My dalish is suddenly so much more fun to play.

I've not tried installing any of my mods with DAModder -- I just do it manually. The new version is not released yet, except unofficially with a link in the leliana thread (page 194 204 I think, but am not sure) -- it's the DT-compatible version. What I did to that (you may not be interested in it after I tell you this) is fix the one conversation that she has that starts "the stars are out," to where, if you break up with her in that conversation, there actually is a breakup. For the conversation about Marjolaine, I made her confession of love only trigger if she's in love (instead of only for females who are romance eligible for her), the "new life, new love" comment available if the romance isn't cut off which starts the romance if it's not already started, and the friendship one for all others. Since that version, I added a few more "romance cut off" flags, but that isn't released.

Again, what I did was such a huge lore change, I'm just not sure if I should handle it that way. Leliana doesn't confess to males the same way she does females. At the same time, I'm sure any male who romances her would appreciate the confession. And it also doesn't seem right that any female gets her declaration of love regardless of approval, the only ones who don't get it are the ones who tell her straight out, "You have the wrong impression of me."

So, I'm debating. Once I make my decision about this whole thing I'll announce to new release here.

I know this is the Zev thread, so I won't derail (sorry) but aren't males supposed to get the "Are we fishing for compliments line." thats the only line I'm trying to get.  I got Lel to stop comparing marj to my males.

Yes. I actually have a fix for that up on my DANexus ZDF page. It's called genpt_leliana_main_script_fix. Just extract that into your override folder (dragon age origins/packages/core/override -- create the override directory if it doesn't exist). There was a coding error in that script that caused it not to work. I'll include it in ZDF in my next update.

Edit: While you're there, the one file I really recommend to everyone is party_banter_fix_5 or whatever it's called.  It fixes quite a few banters, including one between a hardened-leliana/Zevran, so they can trigger.  Well, I recommend all of my mod, but I understand that it does conflict with a few others.  I don't think either of those fixes conflict with anything, however.

I'm going to sound like a noob when I say this, and thx so much for helping. I just started modding a week ago and have been using damodder, is there a way to convert it from .rar to a zipfile

You need to just extract the file in the .rar. It's not a DAZip (this is VERY deliberate -- I won't make my files DAZips). You can use winrar to extract the file. Just put it into your c:/program files (x86)/dragon age origins/packages/core/override folder -- create the override folder if it doesn't exist. If you're using steam, the path is slightly different, so let me know. The files MUST be extracted -- it will look like genpt_leliana_main.ncs and gept_leliana_main.nss (only the .ncs file is actually needed, but I am completely open source so include the non-compiled script as well). The banter fix files are party_banter.dlg and party_banter.dlb.

I think some of the mod managers have override creators built into them. You still have to extract the files, however.

The reason I don't use DAZips is because I have a few files that are created by other people; I won't repackage someone else's work. Also, since there are a lot of compatibility issues with endgame mods, I want people to be able to pick and choose what parts of ZDF to use.

Edit: If you need any additional help with this, feel free to PM me if you're not comfortable here.  I absolutely don't mind stepping people through this stuff. It can be extremely confusing!

I do find it funny how he makes you ask him outright though, and just plays the vapid one for a while.

I love the way Zevran plays coy when you ask him to the tent for the first time. I also like how he teases the warden if s/he backs out the first time but then asks him again. Yeh, he definitely makes the warden spell it out.

Although you really have to wonder, once Ignacio was diplomatic enough to pretend Zevran wasn't there when he was duty-bound to try to kill him or at least report him, Zevran kept interrupting the meeting. It's like he had no sense of self-preservation there and I really just wanted to shake him and ask him what he was trying to do.
