The dialogue examples you guys have been writing are funny, though. XD
Eh. I do hope that Isabela mentions him/what happened to her husband, since it does seem like something she might reasonably say eventually. I'll admit her voice really annoyed me for some reason in Origins, but other than that I liked her well enough, so I'm hoping she'll be pretty cool in DAII.

Yeah, I didn't really have any ideas, so after staring at the page for a while I just tried to draw him staring. I don't think my lack of reference screenshots did me any favours (new primary hard disk and forgetting to back up screenshots will do that to you).

Prompt: "Do you stare at everyone like that?" - Zevran's eyes, Zevran's gazes.
Sarah1281 wrote...
“Do you stare at everyone like that?” the Warden asked quietly. Zevran could certainly understand her hesitance. Caunira Surana had spent most of her life in a dank, isolated tower and had no memories of the outside from before she had been recruited into the Grey Wardens. She wouldn’t talk about what had happened but he had gathered that it involved some sort of blood magic scandal although he’d yet to see any evidence that she possessed any such talents.
(...)
How did he stare at her? He had caught himself staring several times – notably, right before she had asked him that question – and though he lacked the ability to see how it appeared to her, his gaze felt different than it ever had before. Almost everything with her felt different than it had before. A new country, a new and nobler purpose, a new game to play…he wasn’t quite sure what to make of it yet. But he did know one thing, at least.
“Not everyone.”
I like it how you speak about Zevran's different gazes and how he learned them. The sad story about his former life and his new start and chance with Caunira. I'm interested to know it goes on between the two of them.

Scrutiny
"I do not care for the way he watches you." Morrigan's lovely pale golden eyes narrowed as she looked away, across the campsite to the main fire. The object of her ire was lounging there, listening to Leliana's after-supper performance. The soft sound of her lute did not reach this far, but Erian Surana caught the occasional snatch of song from where he sprawled next to the seated witch.
"Why?" he asked simply. It seemed a reasonable question.
She turned her head to look down at him and raised a fine eyebrow. "You do not mind that a man who tried to kill you keeps you under such close observation?" Morrigan replied tartly.
Erian paused to give this due consideration. "No, not especially," he said slowly. "I am... fairly certain he will not try again. But I asked why it displeases you."
She smiled and twisted where she sat, stretching out her legs and lowering herself onto one elbow so that they were side-by-side. "You would tell him to cease his staring, to please me?"
He smiled faintly himself. "Did I say that? I think you are keen to avoid the question."
She pulled back abruptly. "Because the answer should be obvious to any fool," she gritted. "I am disappointed that you cannot fathom this riddle without hand-holding."
He frowned, stung. "'Obvious' would be jealousy," he said. While he had perhaps little personal experience in these matters, hundreds of stories and poems made the obvious answer clear. "You wish that I should think you jealous, Morrigan?" He was genuinely puzzled. "It seems unlike you."
"Hmph." Turning her head away, she lifted her chin imperiously, but the lack of an instant return sally spoke volumes. She looked back at him slantwise. "Will you tell him to desist in his glances?"
Erian shrugged. "I will speak to him of it. Perhaps he is just looking to see if my armor needs repaired. He said that was something he could do."
Morrigan glared across the campsite again. "I sincerely doubt that."
Very original idea to speak about Zevran's gazes without him even appearing in the story.

This is the sequel or morning after scene to an extraordinary gift from ICevol dealing with a very AU awakening storyline. Warning: sugary...
Exactly one hour.
Morning.
Keiran woke as the dim morning rays of sun crept their way across her bed. Stretching, she rolled carefully onto her side, aware of the stiffness in her limbs and her still sleeping lover. Biting her lower lip, she carefully lifted her hand and lightly traced the contours of his face to convince herself he was here. His arrival had been the most welcome surprise, the part of her that felt suffocated and numb in his absence had quickly re-awakened in his presence.
(...)
“Zevran” Keiran gasped in between lingering kisses.
“Si, amata?” he replied as his hands moved down the curve of her hips, his lips once again laying claim to her neck.
Smiling to herself she had thought of so much to say to him, to tell him, but all of those words had long been unnecessary between them.
“I am happy you are home.”
End.
Hilde, you are really the mistress of passionate situations. That was so cute how Keiran remembers the situation in their early relationship when they meet again after a long time of separation. Wonderful description of the feelings Zevran's gazes trigger on Keiran. (and I must absolutely read Icevol's story if I find some time for it

Really nice! I don't know how you manage to draw such a detailed portrait of Zevran with all these shadows and perfect lines in just one hour!
Oh dear, now I have to decide? :-/ That's not easy at all. I would like to give a prize to everyone: for the best psychological reflection, for the most original idea, for the most wonderful colouring of his eyes, the funniest summary of his gazes, the most passionate story about Zevran's eyes or the most detailed portrait of his face...
But only one can be the winner... And it is...
wildannie - because I really had the feeling Zevran would look at me out of your picture. Congratulations! And please send me a pm concerning the prize you wish.
Many thanks @everyone who participated.

... better get my thinking cap on for a new prompt!
@sarah I thought this was a really fabulous story - I really like how he seems to be feeling some confusion over over his feelings before anything has really started.
@corker - Erian seems to have Morrigan (and Zevran?) just where he wants them - I like
@hilde - What an amazing scene! I love how we get reference to their first gaze when they are both in such a happy moment, it's a shame it takes an AU for our Zev loving wardens to find such happiness!
Edit: forgot to mention the Art!
@Kornichon - I love your work! (if a wee bit jealous of your seemingly effortless drawing strokes)
@Halae Dral -very impressive portrait - especially in the timescale

@ Kornichon – hee! Zevran is very fun to watch, and he can’t exactly blame the Warden for staring when he does the same thing
@Hilde – Beautiful and sweet take on “waking up together” – love this!
(major excitement here for new ZRS release announcement, too – woot! *dances*)
RE: Isabela in DA2 – if that does actually lead to a Zevran cameo, I’ll change my mind about not buying it… (just saying, in case the BioWare folks are listening or care…
@ HalaeDral – beautiful sketch of Zevran!
Here’s my “non-entry, late submission” for maradeux’s prompt (30 minutes total):
“You should not stare at him like that, Zevran.”
Zevran suppressed a groan of irritation at Wynne’s interruption of his new favorite hobby – mentally undressing the Warden as he worked on setting up his tent for the night. Wynne believed everything that occurred within the group was her business, regardless of whether that were true or not, and Zevran felt disinclined to indulge her. Instead of looking away from the slim musculature of the elven warden’s backside, he continued staring and didn’t meet her eyes to reply. “How would you have me stare at him differently? I am open to suggestions, have you any to provide.”
Zevran didn’t bother hiding his unrepentant grin when Wynne released an affronted huff. “That is not what I meant, and you know it, Zevran. The way you look at him is completely shameless, and no doubt makes him uncomfortable.”
“Truly?” Zevran shot her a dubious look for emphasis before returning his gaze to the Warden’s form. “He has not said anything to me about being discomfited by my attentions. He hardly seems the type to allow such a thing to continue without comment, if any objections were present.”
“Do not be purposely obtuse, Zevran,” Wynne chided with impatient disappointment. “You know as well as the rest of us how little exposure he’s had to the outside world. He likely has no idea of the sordid ideas going through your mind when you stare at him. If he did, he would most certainly tell you to desist. Pretending that you’re unaware of that fact is less than honorable.”
While Zevran mentally conceded that Wynne might have a valid point, he wasn’t about to give her the satisfaction of telling her so. Instead, he cocked an eyebrow at her and smiled. “And here I was, believing you thought me devoid of honor, dear Wynne. I shall take this as a compliment.”
Wynne threw up her hands in frustration. “You are impossible! I don’t know why I thought you might be willing to see reason.” The mage stalked off towards the other side of camp, muttering under her breath the entire way.
Zevran turned his attention back to the Warden, part of him thinking that perhaps he ought to take Wynne’s concerns seriously. At the very least, he should discuss it with the Warden and find out if he wished for Zevran to stop staring at him.
Before he could make a decision, Zevran heard Leliana’s voice behind his shoulder, “I wouldn’t worry about it, if I were you, Zevran.”
Not in the least surprised that Leliana had overheard the conversation, Zevran turned to look at her. “Do you not also fear my corruption of the Warden with my leering?”
Leliana shrugged. “I might, except for one thing.”
“Oh, and what might that be?”
Leliana’s eyes sparkled and she grinned wickedly. “When he knows you’re not looking, he stares at you exactly the same way you stare at him.”
Zevran’s level of surprise was matched only by the increase of his interest in the target of his gazes. His eyes swept over the Warden with heightened intensity. “In that case, perhaps I need to redouble my efforts.”
--End--

Talking about a Zev cameo, you guys really want them to mess with his character design and possibly throw more of a wrench in his epilogue cards from Origins? Really? I hope they forget he exists, save perhaps in passing mention or if the Warden ever comes back.
The more I think about it, the more I hope he is NOT mentioned. I think, though, that he will have a cameo. I am really hoping, at the very least, if they decide to make him a caricature of the "sex starved assassin" that they take the romance flags into consideration so you don't have him trying to get your Hawke into bed or something.
Edit: But if in a romance with him, he seems to be destined to be the leader of the crows (US or Awakening ending), so it would make a lot of sense for him to be mentioned, at least in some way.
I was griping about it on the DA2 boards.
Second edit: It's really hard to get past THIS (the quote in its entirety).
I'm pretty sure, based on this, that he will have a cameo. I know DG really did like Zevran, so I will trust he won't mess him up. Too badly. I hope!SonFrancisco wrote...
We've redone the armors across the board to fit with the new art style (no more women with linebacker wide shoulders!) so they won't be wearing the same models they wore in the first. But they would probably wear something similar and identifiable if their look was signature. Like how the templar armors are different stylistically, but still look like templar armor.
To address some of the concerns about returning characters though, upgrading the heads was a huge goal among us character artists. We didn't choose to improve everyones look just because of the art style, but because we revamped the head system entirely. We've redone textures completley to be less stretchy and more detailed and worked very hard to make these brand new face meshes animate spectacularly better than before. But we are aware of the attachment value of particular characters from DA:O and the need for consistency, so we're being very careful about re-introducing familiar faces.
Minor characters who didn't get the same polish in the first one but became breakout stars in the second, (Isabela) get overhauls to give them the uniqueness and appeal that their characters deserved. So they now stand out among the rest.
For major characters who might return, they would remain the same structurally and cosmetically. Especially the humans, unless the the art director or design/writing deem it otherwise. We really want cameos to be recognized at a glance or familiar under scrutiny. That said, no matter how much we might try, due to the new head system and the art style, the lighting engine and camera work, they may not look 100% identical. Its unfortunate, but we hope they'll at least be recognizable. For the races that have been stylized, such as the dwarves and elves, the changes will be apparent but we hope to keep their cosmetic features the same (hair, eye color and tattoos)
We put a lot of effort into creating the star characters of DA:O, we love them as much as you all do. If they happen to get a makeover, it will get the same amount of care, love and attention to detail that went into them originally and we hope you'll agree with us that it was for the better.

Dear Steve kind of confirm it (kind of) on his Twitter
And I am pretty sure Morrigan, Sten or Leliana will be back as well, since Hawk is from Lothering, at one stage they bound to cross path with each other since the party in Origin was there just before the darkspawn attack.
As for Zev...or any other Origin and Awakening companion...well, we've kind of confirm Nate, but I can only hope the rest would at least mention/make a cameo.
