Congrats, wildannie!

Reunion, huh? Hm... I can think of a few things for that, I think. Off to ponder!

ETA: ToP?  This week's prompt winner seems appropriate:

@Sarah -- Wynne's meddling conversation was definitely the motivation for the story.  Since she bugs the warden about the LI, I figured the reverse would likely be true as well.  Thanks for reading!

Off topic a bit here:  Since yesterday was Halloween, I thought about the occurrences/cutscenes in DAO that wigged me out the first time I played.  The ogre having a snack at the top of the Tower of Ishal was the first one, though not the scariest.  The worst for me... that section of the Dead Trenches where Hespith's disembodied voice started chanting in rhyme.  So. Freakin' Creepy. *shudder*

Anyone else have creepy moments to share in honor of Halloween?

On my second runthrough, with a CEF, I had some actual vertigo when we went to rescue the queen. Although I knew I'd been in Howe's estate during the Origin, I didn't really *place* myself until we got to the kennels, and all of a sudden I was remembering the origin fight and how Shianni had been behind *that* door... I was really surprised at the sensation of 'and then it all came rushing back,' which I certainly hadn't expected to get from a video game.

Hespith definitely freaked me out a bit. X_x;; I also thought that kid in Haven was a bit creepy, but not hugely so, I guess. Oh, and in Awakening, when the Mother does that thing with her face. Holy Maker, I jumped. XD

all of the above, but Hespith/Broodmother sticks out the most for me, as well as ~~~*~random encoutner ~~*~ spiders. I hate spiders. The most genuinely heartpounding moments I've had in vidja games have been raids where the boss is down to the last 1% and you're so close you can taste it.

This game: http://www.amnesiagame.com/ ...looks genuinely disturbing and Steam is currently downloading it. Will let you know if I have to sleep with the lights on after playing it ><;

It's rarely the boss for me; it's one of those bizarrely overpowered trivial encounters that takes down 2-3 of the party.  That desire demon with the half-dozen enchanted templars?  My m!Surana went down like a rock and Wynne and Zevran followed shortly.  Alistair was fighting three of them by himself but damn if he didn't pull it off.

Lair of the Werewolves... not so lucky.  I wasn't expected eleventy billion werewolves not previously shown to appear for that fight (the optional one, where you refuse to meet with the Lady), and everthing I'd learned about DAO tactics over four playthroughs when *right* out the window.  It was down to Alistair again, I think, and just two weres... it really seemed like maybe he could pull it off... and then the Overwhelms started back up and it was load screen time.  Augh.

But those really stand out as two of the most memorable, adrenaline-inducing fights I had.

Probably the hardest fight after my first play through (all the fights were hard the first time) was soloing Ortan Thaig. Just one word: Spiders. Spider fights make my skin crawl with all the webbing, overwhelms and sound effects.

spiders don't usually freak me out, but I had no idea what would be in the game and I played mage first, so when the big spiders just dropped down on me and stuff it made me jumpXD otherwise Hespith.... and Amnesia look fuun:D but it doesn't like my comptuer for some reason, so I haven't gotten to try it yet><

@All -- The spiders... ack! Even though I've played enough times now to know when to expect them, I still jump in my seat a good 50% of the time when they suddenly pop up with that hissing noise *shudder*

@Corker -- I didn't have that with my CE, but I did with my first mage when doing the broken circle quest. Holy crap... it hit me really hard when going through the tower (which is pristine in the origin) and seeing the dead/defiled bodies laying around. Not to mention that fighting the abominations took on a whole different meaning when the "monster" could have previously been a friend. I don't even want to think about the level of CREEP in my first mage playthrough when watching Uldred transform that poor mage into an abomination right in front of the character.

@Jenovan -- Haven kid is definitely creepy, though (due to surroundings) I find him less creepy than the "Sir Willem" chanting kid in the Orphanage side quest.

@soignee -- that game looks spooky as heck!

@soignee - that really does look really scary... but interesting too, not sure if I could play it through though as I'm complete horror lightweight Posted Image
In DAO I'll go with the spiders as the most creepy, the way they come down from above especially - that goes for the ranger summoned one too it lands right on the wardens head!
I do always get a feeling of dread when I get some of the random encounters sooner than anticipated Posted Image

Try playing FEAR or Bioshock.

There are moments that scare you, then some that make you jump back.

I've never played fear, I really loved Bioshock there's one moment that particularly stands out, designed to make you jump for sure. I just couldn't get into Bioshock 2 though.

Bioshock 2 went for the BOOO! kind of scary over the atmosphere kind of scary.
FEAR definently scares the crap out of you though in many places.

There is a free demo on Steam right now though, try it to see if you like it.

Prompt: 'reunion'  any take on a Zev reunion - who (or what) he's reunited with is up to you...
time - 1hour
Deadline 7th Nov, 2pm GMT
Prize: A drawing/painting of your choice

@ICevol ~ Spiders. I have to agree with everyone on the spiders creeping me out in the game. I think it is the noise they make. I am certain they would not be near as creepy without it.

@soignee ~ That game looks frightening! I may have to try it out!

**One hour writing and editing. I am sure I missed something but am happy with the outcome.

Seperated

Keiran wearily pushed herself off the blood slicked stones on top of Fort Drakon, her knees threatening to give way from the exhaustion as she steadied herself.  The blast that had thrown her clear of the dragon was greater and more excruciating than she cared to admit. Cautiously she moved towards the motionless body of the Archdemon, the sword hanging from her hand scraped across the stones as she advanced.

As she came upon the broken and torn body of the dragon, she became vaguely aware of noise starting once again to enter into her consciousness, noise she had not been aware was missing. It came back suddenly with the deafening roar of cheers and disbelief. They had succeeded in destroying the archdemon.

Standing over the now deformed corpse Keiran struggled to contend with a reality that seemed impossible. The past years spent fighting the blight in every corner of Fereldan while gathering allies amidst a nation torn apart with civil war had violently come to an abrupt end. The possibility of a future with Zevran, her love, for the first time rang true in her heart. Torn out of her daze with thoughts of him she frantically scanned the rooftop for signs of her lover.

Dropping the sword with a wet clink to the ground she turned as Alistair and Irving advanced upon her with smiles and greetings that held disbelief. Trapped by the throngs of soldiers advancing upon her position with cries of victory, Keiran searched for escape. Only one thing truly mattered to her now, she would not be kept from him.

Twisting from Irving’s embrace she momentarily toyed with the possibility of crawling over the dragons’ neck to escape the mass of humanity now threatening to overwhelm her. Alistair, seeming to sense her anxiety roughly gathered her into his arms and made his way through the crowd.

The advance was slow and arduous, they had not made it far through the crowd when she slipped from Alistair’s hold due to the blood that covered and drenched them both.  Picking her exhausted body back up securing his grip around her waist, he continued to make his way to the ledge of the tower.  Setting her down with care, he hugged her once more and quickly moved to divert any well wishers as she made her escape to find Zevran.

Searching amidst the hordes of cheering people Keiran fought the feeling of despair. She had seen Zevran standing near Alistair just before she had rushed the demon and worried that the answer to his absence was one she would be unable to bear. She urged her ears to hear his voice, begged her heart to feel his presence and willed her eyes to find him all to no avail.

Exhausted she slumped against the door leading out of the Fort. Burning tears started to flow freely down her blood soaked face as the uproarious barks from her hound Tanis brought her once again to action. Pushing her way through the groups of Dwarven soldiers, back to where she had landed upon the death of the archdemon, she found Tanis happily running towards her, followed closely behind by Zevran.

The look of panic and anxiety that covered his face was quickly replaced with a broad smile as he ran through the crowd towards her. A muffled cry escaped Keiran as she buried herself in his arms, clutching and grasping at any part of him within reach. They held their embrace as the celebration continued around them.

Zevran, pulling away slightly to look upon Keiran, he smoothed the blood from her face and hair as he beheld his bloodied and bruised warden as if for the first time. Flashing a satisfied grin he pulled her close once again resting his forehead to hers. Their true reunion would have to wait for the darkspawn blood to be washed away, but for now she was content to be in his arms.

Wrapping her own arms tightly around his neck she let herself imagine what came next for the two of them and came to a solitary conclusion. Whatever lay ahead the only thing that truly mattered is that they would face it together.

Has anyone here heard Zevran's dialogue where he explains why he won't go and assassinate Loghain? I just got that for the first time the other night and I am amused.

Once or twice...

*grin* Actually, I normally take that conversation because it's the way you can recruit Zevran without getting any approval drops.  Of course, if I feel like ticking off Alistair, I instead tell him we're recruiting him because I'm leader.  And it's often a lot of fun to tick Alistair off.

Edit: It is a fun conversation, though.  He really would if he could... but it wouldn't be right!

I can actually imagine her doing it with each of the LI's behind the Warden's back. Hell she more or less does it with Morrigan when your standing right there.

Morrigan: You do not approve of me, do you?
Wynne
: You have to ask? I didn't realize I was being subtle.
Morrigan
: Ah, the old cat still has her claws, I see. And you also do not approve of my involvement with our stalwart Grey Warden.
Wynne
: You are dangerous, Morrigan. Dangerous, cunning
and thoroughly deceitful. But you are beautiful, and he is young. It's a
pity he doesn't know any better.
Morrigan
: Why, Wynne, I do believe that is the first time you have ever offered a compliment. Thank you.
Wynne
: Only you would take that as a compliment.
Morrigan
: Listen, old woman. what happens between myself
and him is not your concern. You can approve or not approve as you
wish, but this is one thing you cannot influence and mold to your
liking.
Wynne
: So you say. I do hope that one day soon you will discover that neither is he.
Morrigan
: You mistake my intent, old cat. And you are a fool.
Wynne
: Am I? Well, let's hope so

I haven't seen him used a lot... I use him as sort of a Crow quartermaster, I guess?  He's only part of the Crows by technicality, Ignacio's logistical support.  They've got to have members who don't do a lot of killing to make the organization work.

I think I remember hearing he's Ignacio's brother....or was it cousin. Otherwise you don't see much of him outside of the game. Though speaking of Ignacio it always bugged me that Crow assassin's end up being sent after you in Awakening despite the fact he said that none of the Crows would be accepting contracts on you any more.
