Ritual Dismemberment Tuesday, normally a day for venting frustrations on unsuspecting hurlocks, former mentors with terrible accents, and nameless bandits by the boatload, claimed our glorious Gush Thread as its hapless victim.

*sob*

However, we are strong and the squee must go on. Bring it now, my friends, and let's see how high we can get this thing, whilst always being mindful to keep things Alicentric and wholesome...

...first to post Alicorn wins my undying love.Posted Image

Things to Note:

The Alistair Gush thread is for squeeing over Alistair, and also vigorous yet civil debate over Alistair-centric plot points in Dragon Age: Origins and all its DLC, EPs and prequel books. Discussion about DA2 is discouraged and should be kept to the DA2 subforum.

Also, when quoting a post with a picture, try to remember to delete the image from your post. Too many repeats slow down the thread and are a strain on the BW servers.

Theme Days:

In our efforts to spread joy to one another we have established three days in which posting themed screenshots/fanarts is encouraged (not to say that screenshots/fanarts aren't welcome every day...).

Monday is Derp Day, the day on which we post those shots that make us snortgiggle at the ridiculous faces Alistair et al make in the course of the game.

Ritual Dismemberment Tuesday is the most sacred of these theme days, being created by the Alistarian Priestess herself, Lady Damodred. Tuesdays are when you can get your aggression out by submitting screen grabs of finishing moves and the fountains of blood that come with them. Fun for the whole family!

Smut Thursday is when we celebrate the good work done by tmp7704, cmessaz and Dahlia Lynn to provide us with high-quality pixel romance. Pics of a romantic nature, mind the risque bits, are encouraged.

New!!!

Get your creative on with the Alistair Weekly Challenge Group.

Thanks for this new one, Surely. Don't want the other one as our new squee thread. It's way too scary for that. :crying:
This being said, let the Ali love go on. :wizard:

Wasn't the other thread locked ( in part ) that it contained a lot of posts with no substance and just pics?

Just saying it.

Now, to encourage dialogue:

I am a firm believer in the Fiona Is Alistair's Mom plot and  I am in the process of writing a scene that reuintes them (well, he finds out that she's his mother). I know how I'm taking it (since my scenario is quite specific) but I'm interested in reading about how others imagine him handling the news. Anger? Disbelief? Joy?

Disbelief with a mix of Joy. If he is hardened then quite a bit of anger there too I think.

I know all signs point to Fiona being his mother, but honestly I'm not completely sold on the idea.

But, if it were the case, I can't imagine he'd be anything but really, really angry. He feels like everyone in his life abandoned him, except his mother, who died. Once he finds out his mother is was alive this whole thime, and knew about him....uh-oh

This is also something I will be tackling in my fic.  I'd imagine there's always a fair bit of disbelief, and then anger once he accepts it.  I'm not the kind of person who sees their reunion as being all flowers and rainbows.  I don't see them ever having the loving mother/child relationship.  I do see them eventually establishing some sort of relationship, but it would take time.  In my specific situation, there are some mitigating factors which might make it easier on both of them.  We'll see.

That being said, as we're not the author, this is all purely speculation.  ^_^

According to  the moderator our other topic was locked because of, well see what she wrote below....

"Yes, Alistair pics are on topic. Mostly. I noticed a fair bit of pic quoting for the same screenshot a few pages back, some off topic and meme spam, and a bit of derailment to mention DA2 news.

In some areas this thread is better than Zevran's. It seems to have been more consistent in sticking to the subject matter recently. However, I also see an alarming number of posts with little substance that amount to back and forth chat or pic posting. That said, I'm still locking this thread as it has grown insanely long. You can all migrate here: link or begin a new topic. If you choose the latter I will lock that thread too. It's a bit too similar to this one. Thank you "

So less back and forth and more SQEEEE and Alistair and let's stay on topic.Posted ImagePosted ImagePosted ImagePosted ImagePosted Image

I can handle a lot of disappointment, but I will be utterly depressed if we never find out for certain (or that Alistair never finds out). His need for a family is such a big part of his characterization and it seems like it would make for compelling growth.

I think so too. Concerning the hapless live he had lived, I think he would really feel abandoned by her, because despite his believe she is alive and seemingly did not care for him all the time.

Oh oh.

I think he'd be very angry for a while but some day the joy of having a mother (and an actual family) would take over. Though this would be a long process for him to go and I'm unsure if he'd reach it at all. I think his level of care and time he needs to overcome the anger depends on if he still has someone close to him in the end. If the FWarden is still with him, I'm pretty much sure that he'll regard her as his new family and goes right to the "I don't care for my mother, because she hasn't cared for me"- mode for a long time. If he's alone I think he'd want to face her sooner to know the reasons and such.

Just my two cents. Hope it makes somewhat sense o.O

We might never know, not as official material, at any read.  It would be nice if DG eventually came out and clarified.  I'm a fan of the Fiona theory for a couple reasons, but I think mainly because having yet another Maric bastard out there seems...messy.

Mel_Redux:
I think there would be a lot of anger, but it wouldn't insurmountable.  If he found out Duncan knew, it might help to know that Duncan always watched out for him, that he was never truly abandoned and it adds a whole other level of depth to what it means for him to be a Grey Warden.

Merisell:
Again, I think levels of joy/happiness depend very much on the situation Alistair is in when he discovers it.  It could also be that by being in a relationship with the Warden, he understands exactly how much people are willing to sacrifice to keep their families safe, and thus he appreciates it more.  Conversely, a bitter and disillusioned Alistair might not want anything to do with her ever, and no care about reasons because they don't matter.

I can't imagine the peasant-folk of Ferelden would be too happy with the idea of having a half-elf king...I guess we'll just have to keep that on the down low :P Furthermore, I'm curious how Alistair would feel if he found out his mother was an elf after he broke it off with an elven warden (assuming he was made king and not hardened, of course). A little hypocritical, perhaps?

An elf warden or a mage warden, either. I think he would feel even more frustrated by circumstance. So not only did his father being a king keep him from having a family when he was a child, it also meant that he had to give up the woman he loved when he was suddenly deigned important enough to do the job himself.

And all of this is to say nothing of the prejudice that made his life suck so much to begin with- if his mother hadn't been a mage, she could have left the Wardens to keep him.

See, you guys are just trying to copy the dwarf thread because WE WERE LOCKED FIRST. Everyone wants to be cool like us. =p

Strumming my fingers, waiting on today's DLC. Wondering if there'll ever be a DLC where we get more Alistair. At least we have Steve Valentine's tweets to give us any heads up, right? Right?

Whew, nervous there for a second. Not that I truly believed that was the end of the gush thread.

I didn't read the books but going on the assumption that Fiona is Alistair's mother, I think he deserves the chance to find out about his family, especially since it is really all he has wanted since we met him. I agree with LadyD that his situation may affect his reception to her, though. But I am not sure which way he would go. I can see a happy Alistair either being content with the happiness he has found and not being interested in anything else or embracing every last piece of family he can get his hands on. On the other hand, a dissillusioned Alistair may desperately cling to the idea of finding his mother since he has nothing else or telling her to take a hike.

In short, who knows there are alot of logical paths that could be explored in fanfic.

We've all been sent to Thread Re-Education Camp.  You guys were just the first trainload.  Lucky you!

SV Tweetland has been quiet on the subject.  Last word is he had heard nothing, was doing nothing.  2-hour dungeon crawl with recycled areas and no dialogue, that sounds about right.  If people will pay for that, why pay SV to break out the old crown?

So, is RDT cancelled or what?

Re. Fiona, I'm pretty sure that under most circumstances Alistair will tell her to take a hike, at least at first.

Wow, now that I really think about it, I kind of hope his mother was just a simple castle serving girl. The whole Fiona = Mother thing would just be so unbelievably cruel to poor Alistair.

Even as an elf, Alistair still loves him some cheese.

I'd say it depends largely on his situation.. Like in you fanfic, (yes, I've been following it almost religiously and want to punch him and then hug him, then punch him again... you get the picture).. Anyway,  I think a mix of emotions would play into account.. Disbelief and maybe anger/dissapointment at first. And acceptance and maybe even relief later.  I think he would definitely feel betrayed, at least a little, especially if/when he finds out Duncan's role in all of it.

On a seperate note.. Lockdown of old thread nearly sent me back into lurk mode..:(

Indeed.  I feel sad for nranola.  It's not the same without her happy thread starter to look at every once in a while, and I know she does check back at times.

Seriously, WTF.  Too much player community here and buzz about future installments, have to put a stop to that.  Posted Image  I think Bioware is using the same PR firm as certain other... well, anyway.

This deserves a good decapitation.

Even if SV *was* commissioned to return dor DA2, I don't believe he would reveal anything. Bioware would most likely not allow it :(
