Thank you muchly.
Out of curiosity, are we going to see Arturo in the Cousland contest?*can't remember if you're a console player or not*
You're very welcome.
As for the Cousland contest, I'm a PC player (PC as in personal computer, not politically correct. I stopped being that years ago)
Then you should gimme pics, damnit!
Edit: Besides modded Alistair, the only other face I ever put on him was Grumpy's Aden.

But thankfully no KoP unicorn abomination. Which I can tell I probably (most certainly) won't take as well as Rage.

Just no.
It involves both my name and Xanatos' face and both are like the red line....

That was after he told my warden that she couldn't fight when usually she uses a bow/arrows. Hmm, if he wasn't her childhood friend, she would have had to punch him and then he'd see how well she fights. Alistair already has his eyes on the Warden. I do Haven second after Warden's keep.
Wynne was right, Alistair does look at my warden's "swaying hips" alot.

Yeah, I really don't. In fact I see the Tevinters and Orlesians' description of Ferelden as backwards as being praising with faint damnation. Fereldans are culturally more advanced than those backward countries who are less egalitarian, more embroiled with paternalism and religious fundamentalism, more impressed with themselves, and more likely to engage in expensive wars. So Orlais has big universities and cathedrals- that only certain sorts of people benefit from.
Those banns you like to point to as "the" problem are a sign of Ferelden's health as a nation. Power is not concentrated in the hands of a very few, but distributed throughout various societal layers and thus kept in check. The tribal system is also a cultural heritage and to eliminate it is to kill something essential. It will adapt on its own, but the system itself is not the problem.
Ferelden needs to develop, but basically they are on the right path.
I generally agree with you. A decentralized power base plus the Ferelden values of self-reliance and independance are good things. However, the Banns as they are really need to go, because more often than not, they contribute to or foster instability. I think the major reform needed is not to eliminate the Bannorn per se, but to make it where the Banns are no longer a hereditary title passed on through nobility and blood, but a more meritocracy-based system where a Bann is appointed or elected to the post based on their own talents and merits. That would probably solve alot of problems with the Bannorn. After all, bloodlines are not, nor should they be, the prime factor of leadership deterimination.
It's a function, I think, of the writers being too anxious to make Thedas elves =/Tolkien. You do see that elves have an edge in crafting and magic, but this is downplayed and the downtrodden aspect played up. Eventually they are going to have to show elven racial distinctives or else there is no sense in having elves. If they never do this, then... meh. My interest in Thedas wanes.
I actually like this, as one of the reasons I've never been fond of elves in most fantasy settings was because they are too speshul and sparkly to be taken seriously as a functional race. Maybe as mythological creatures. But in general, elves in most fantasy settings suck because they are unrealistic.
You said you abhor waste, right? I disagree that they are harmless to no one but themselves. Just ask Fiona.
Or any other commoner, elf, human, or dwarf, since basically, the nobility of Orlais has free reign to do what they like to the commoners.
Where this falters, and I think the game writers reflect this pretty well, is on religious fundamentalism. IOW I see the empires you're talking about as being the products of religious tolerance and not the source of that tolerance. Scholars debate why the Muslim renaissance faltered, but it's probably at least in part because of a more fundamentalist strain of Islam. Likewise in Christian Europe, where religious authority was decentralized and moderate, religion actually promoted development, but where it was more rigid and authoritarian, the opposite was true. Likewise in Thedas, so long as the crown allows the Chantry to promote xenophobia and reinforces it with their economic policy, the elves become a problem to be solved rather than a resource.
We learn in game that there are several types of magic the Chantry either supresses or forbids, beyond just blood magic. We know nothing of these types of magic, though Tevinter might. The Chantry, like many religions have historically, hamper progress because they forbid things that might conflict with their doctrines and dogmas, which slows the march of development, progress, and discovery. As well as the supression of new ideas and values. I agree, the Chantry needs serious weakening so new ideas can develop. The elves are only one part of this.
Oh, and uh... Alistair is really cute. LOL

No objections here.

Which is why I usually keep Alistair as a GW. He doesn't want to be the king and Eamon shouldn't be trying to put him on the throne because of his blood ties with Marric. Anora is a much better leader and Alistair is a much better GW. This playthrough (13th), I'll harden him and make him the king so I can get my noble wedding and have an Alistair as king save for DA2. I have one already with Alistair as a GW. I never kill him. I watched a youtube vid of him being told by Anora that he needs to be executed and it killed me. I can't and will never let him do the US and I will never let him be executed or a wandering drunk. I really don't get the appeal of those endings.

I do a mix of possible solutions to Landsmeet, but in my favorite playthroughs, Alistair is not king. I certainly do not like having him executed or forced into marrying Anora, though I've done it. And of course, I am at full disagreement with Eamon that Therin blood is important and somehow special. To backwards thinking conservatives, yes. And it served as a needed rally point during the rebellion against Orlais. But beyond that, no. And even hardened, it is not really what would make Alistair happiest. His suitability as a king is a matter of opinion. I think he makes a reasonably competant king, in terms he is able to hold Ferelden together and keep most everyone happy during his reign. But in terms of making major changes to the system needed to get Ferelden out of its self-destructive habits, I do not think he does, since it would require alot of underhanded backroom scheming, since politics is a pretty dirty business. Even hardened, I think he lacks the moral apathy and ruthless cunning to play the game well, especially considering the Bannorn is a potential nest of vipers, who have historically shown themselves as much bane as boon.

It seems to me that Eamon wants power. I mean let's look at it. Eamon passed Alistair off to the chantry because he married a b*tch which means that Alistair's Theirin blood didn't mean much to Eamon when there was a Theirin on the throne nor did Alistair mean much to him. Really Duncan saved Alistair from a life of misery and gave him something of value (being a GW). I do wish there was a line in there saying, no, Alistair doesn't want to be the king and we'll find another way to bring Fereldon together. I always back stab Eamon because Alistair's happiness is more important that Eamon's quest for power. Of course, Loghain thinks that the puppeteer is the GW but my warden only wants what's best for Alistair. She doesn't care what happens to the power source in Fereldon because she's not planning to stay in one place and she loves Alistair and wants him with her. I do wish that Loghain could see that, but of course he has to die for his crimes and that's done before the decision is made.
