Absolutely!  My very first playthrough was with a Dalish Elf who knew nothing about hardening Alistair.  When the scene in which I expected a proposal turned out to be a break up, I actually sat at my PC and cried.  Then I got mad and almost threw DA in the trash.  

And still I love Alistair more than any other character I've ever encountered in a game.  Betrayed or not, I was hooked.

Hi Elysis!  Welcome.  Glad you delurked.    And yeah, there are no true happy endings in DA.  But some of them are much sadder than others.

Giggles - That's so sad! I've only done the US once and will only do it again if I find I need for DA2.

I'm actually a Dragon Age noobie. I started playing a month ago, and have finished my second playthrough where my Mage Elf sacrified herself.
I think I'll go back to Human Noble now. For good. >< (EDIT : Though Morrigan's Ritual is always a pain in the ***)

Yeah the ending of Dragon Age really was hard on me my first time.



I had watched my companions grow into my friends or more (Leliana) then I watched it all go to pot in the Landsmeet. Then Morrigan left, and it was only me and Alistair left on the top of Ft. Drakon.



I did not want to die and leave it all behind but I could not let a friend die in my place instead, so I went US there. The funeral was bad enough, but the last ending slide for Leliana right at the end of the epilogue was a real kick to the gut for me.

Yay, I'm done. Finally finally I'm content with the looks of my Queenie Cousland.



She is Daddy's little princess so the longer hairstyle is more fitting. I made her completely in the toolset btw *is proud*

The hardest ending for me was US. Ive never sided with Loghain so Ive never had to watch Alistair die but that funeral scene was intense...

Lol, I made this caption back in the days. It just seemed so fitting.

Here another pic of my Cous whom I ironically named Fiona. Hey I like that name, so stop staring at me for it.



She is a remade of my old Cousland on the XBox (named Leona there) and I'll play her as a spoiled noble at first who is going to land hard in the reality.

Do not make me make that an Arcturus/Morrigan pic. 

Also, Alistair's not the one who offs himself.  You could arguably say he winds up less broken than Leliana and Zevran.

Except if he is not king and then ups and dissappears without ever being seen again.

He eventually leaves the Grey Wardens, and travels to Duncan's birthplace to honor him. Where he goes afterward is unknown.

I really wish we knew what happened.  :/  I know one slide said he felt like the Grey Wardens weren't just the same anymore.

Leliana should, but we don't know it.  Duncan did, but as he says, they stop caring about those things in the Wardens.  And Morrigan?  Who knows.
