@LadyD - I'm 42, hubby is 44, and we're both avid gamers. My family thinks we're nuts, but we don't care. So tell your co-worker to buzz off!

47 here... Hubby doesn't game but he has in the past and understands it makes me happy... My 11 year-old nephew was teasing me a week ago about my love of DAO, mind you he's a Halo fanatic... Life is too short to take any notice of people who don't understand the pleasure you derive from certain things. If it harms no-one and helps you, what is the problem?:P

Wow I just read my rants from last night.

The things you say when Nutella on burritos and fruit juice are the only things you have eaten for six hours.

I was to tired from life to cook anything.

Besides there was no cheese, so I could not make any mac and cheese.

When I was in my mid-twenties I still had a fairly extensive board game collection. One day my dad said something to the effect of "aren't you a little old to still be playing games?"

I looked at him and said, "Would you prefer I be out all night, smoking, drinking and sleeping around?"

The subject was never brought up again. Can't imagine why. Image IPB

Same thing with my husband. He moans and ****es, and doesn't understand why I like video games, books, board games, and have zero desire for a social life.

I asked him if he'd prefer I'd be like the "nornmal" women around here and spend my days getting retardedly drunk with a bunch of braindead slappers, and shag anything that walks in the bar. or go out shopping with same women and run up his credit card bills.

He still doesn't get it, but at least he appreciates the benefits and is willing to spend the occasional 30£ on a game that will keep me at home and amused for a year or more. A bargain.

@Giggles - What kind of juice? Just curious.

@Skadi - Nearly all of my married friends act just like what you described. It's quite sad that they only seem to find happiness in spending money and going out all the time. I'm still surprised that they are all still married, since they all argue constantly about it. I'm like their only single friend, and they do not understand how I can find joy in playing a video game. That's why I'm so glad I found this thread and all of you awesome people. Image IPBImage IPB

All the can said was berry.

Its funny to see people bash video games for being for kids really. I then tease them about watching reality tv, or other mediums.

Its a form of entertainment like any other thing who cares what others think I proudly wave the flag of the gamer nation and no matter others say I wont take it down.

If a person can wave the Twilight flag, or the Sex and the City flag, or the Reality TV flags then I am quite proud to hold up the gamer flag.

Awww, we love you too!:wub::wub::wub:

Until I married my husband, I never had any desire or plans to get married. Even with my husband, it was a matter of legal necessity, since we were both of different nationalisties and could not live together in each other's country unless we were married. Yet it's worked out just fine. Sadly, in the area where I live, there is nothing to do that doesn't involve excessive or daily drinking, and most people spend their time doing just that. And then, of course, screwing around on their signifigant other, or constantly taking vacations/trips that continually drain their bank accounts.

Sp I get the same thing from people I know around here, who think I am bizarre because I like playing video games, as opposed to drinking, doing hard drugs, clubbing, screwing around, or sitting in some crap third world bar watching the above activities take place.

Of course, msot of these people can't get into their email accounts or turn on a computer in the first place, so go figure. <_<

@Tupp - I must confess that hearing SV twitter about his VO made the prospect of DA2 much more attractive.  I won't say I wouldn't have purchased DA2 without knowing we'd get a cameo from Alistair since I went ahead and purchased Awakening despite knowing it did not offer any romance options, but knowing I'd get to hear that sexy voice one more time raised my level of anticipation.

@Sevalaricgirl - Props to you for writing!  That's a life long dream I'm just beginning to pursue, myself.  Are you published and if so, I'd love to see what you've written!

@SweetPetunia - Congrats on finishing Awakening.  How'd you like it?

@Elysis - Hold on to that feeling of being young!  It will make the rest of your life much more enjoyable.  I decided early on that I was simply going to refuse to grow up and while I'm 42, I don't feel 42 and I think most of that success has been mental attitude.

@Melca - Great way to start of Monday Derp!

@Maria - I totally agree!  And I love your "Confessions"!

And your husband sounds a lot like mine.  He and I don't generally like the same games, but he truly gets that a good game ranks right up there with a good book in my view, and doesn't begrudge the time I spend playing them.  And likewise, I don't begrudge how much time he spends in front of the television.  lol

@tgail - Happy birthday a month or so early!  :wizard:

@Giggles - We still love you, and your rants!  Have no fears of that!  But you should get going on asking that girl out... who knows, she might have food to share with ya -- cheese even.  :P

And I totally agree about being proud to be a gamer.  When people ask me how much time I spend gaming, I've been known to reply, "Probably not as much time as you spend watching TV".

@Skadi - That's were I'm super lucky.  Hubby gets it.  And he'll be the first one to tell anyone who'll listen what a great wife he has because I don't like to shop.

And regarding boardgames, I am pretty lucky in that too because my brother really enjoys them and between the two of us, we can usually talk the rest of the family into joining us for a game when we get together.  I love playing cards too, and miss my single days where I'd spend the weekend at a friend's house playing Canasta or Rook.  LOL

Thank you.

Exactly so.  My hubby loves televised sport, bores me to tears but it is each to their own.

I think as a human being if you loose your capacity to play games, of whatever type, you've lost most of your capacity for joy...

Sweet Alistair derp.

Oh yeah, mine too. He can't figure out why I love video games, just as I don't understand his interest in watching TV, or going out and having a few beers with his friends.Or, well, even having friends in the first place...

But he still counts himself lucky that I am not "normal" and do not have the same interests and hobbies as other people. His wallet is even more thankful.

Maybe someone shoudl start up their own Gamers Dating site. Both for gamers seeking mates who share their passion, as well as non-gamers looking for an inexpensive, low maintanence mate that they need not worry about blowing their bank accounts, cheating on them, or becoming a general nuisance!

People would join but then spend more time gaming then chatting.

Or talking about games then dating.

On a side note I got two people into playing Dragon Age on facebook and both of them are now in love with Alistair. I have not yet told them about this site though.

I love that idea Skadi, but I agree with Giggles. Instead of getting to know each other, they would only discuss games. :)

@Giggles : Nutella and burritos? I do that too! I also add peanutt butter. Also, great song.
@Maria : That confession made me kind of sad :?
The more I discover the world (specially people) as it truely is, the more I tend to want to flee into fiction (specially video games). Alistair would not approve of where the world is going.
Gamer's dating site? Isn't that what Xbox live is for?
