This looks like the most potentially interesting DLC since RtO. I just hope that it's better realized and doesn't ignore all the opportunities for emotional depth as RtO did.

Huh? I got lots of emotion out of  RtO. Who did you take with you when you went? I took Alistair, Wynne and Dog (all those who were there the first time) and it was very poignant, I almost needed a tissue. Even Dog got his little emotional 2 cents in. The conversations between Wynne and Alistair were particularly touching.

It was all about Cailan, there was so much more that should have been mentioned. If I remember correctly, and I may not be, the name Duncan was never uttered once. And honestly I thought the Cailan stuff was a little over the top. Alistair rarely mentions him up to that point , it was too much and ooc, imo.

EDIT: Crap, I hate getting top at work! Give me a minute...

Not Maricstair, actually.  nranola's morph makes no structural changes to his features.

This is Maricstair.  Posted ImagePosted ImagePosted Image

Ah, Rylock, you are so not worthy.

And a few more for old time's sake, both stolen from SurelyForth.

When it was announced, i thought Alistair would be one of the companions just with how (well depending on if you married or were his mistress) Awakenings ended, how one day you ran off (and alistair if so)

So i thought ahh the obvious reason could be to do with finding Morrigan.

Someone might have already said this...I just feel annoyed if Alistair isn;t involved in some matter. All my PC's are female.

Also just curious as to why he runs off with his mistress and not his wife? Has been told as some sort of bug or?

Yuki said she was done with this thread, after all the criticism of DA2 last week. I doubt we've seen the last of Yuki! she will be back one day to wage war against all Alistair head morphs.

I swear, if they kill off my Warden, I am done with them. I'm going to wait before I DL witch story, If the warden dies, they can keep it. I'll just pretend I had my happily ever after with Avernus extending our life and helping with our fertility issue.

I'm pretty sure Duncan was mentioned (although not featured, for sure) in RtO, as well as the loss of the Wardens in general. I can see your point about the Cailan/ooc thing, though. Maybe the developers were trying to make Cailan's death a bigger deal than it had previously been treated. . .? Not that it had ever been treated lightly, but to me Loghain's crimes had been viewed mostly as betraying his king and the Wardens as general concepts, while only Duncan gets truly mourned as a personal loss. And a "connection" between Alistair and Cailan is later implied in the conversation with Anora, where she identifies Alistair's idealism and inexperience with Cailan's. Certainly Alistair maintains an "It could have been me" attitude in regards to Cailan, both good and bad. Suddenly having him rending his garments for Cailan is a little ooc, though, for sure. But certainly fraught with emotion. . .

If I bother doing RtO in my games nowadays I usually take Loghain and Wynne because I seriously got pulled out of whatever possible emotion I could have been experiencing when I took Alistair and Wynne as she chose the worst possible time and place to decide she was sick of being Alistair's surrogate grandmother and to start hitting on him. The parts about Cailan were just right for me, and excellent, as were the conversations between Wynne and Alistair that were more than banter. but there should have been a lot about Duncan, particularly between the PC and Alistair. Finding the joining cup should have had a strong interactive cutscene, rather than be a generic gift (that was just weird), and important conversation was done in banter mode when it should have been fully acted in cutscenes. It was done on the quick and the cheap. The parts that they spent time on were great, but those were too few and far between.

Yes...I mean, even if it's meant to be funny, talk about bad timing. Ostagar is somewhere that has enormous emotional resonance for Alistair so her comment is totally inappropriate.

I honestly can't see them killing the Warden off. Okay yes, the Warden's story has come to an end so they could in theory do it, but it would conflict with the Awakening Epilogue slides so I'm thinking they won't.

Agreed.

I don't know, I liked RtO a lot and while I see that there was so much potential to turn everything into an emotional moment, I can see why the developers wouldn't want to make the whole thing into a tissue-fest. I do agree that some of their choices as to what to focus on vs other things is sometimes a little headscratch-inducing.

As for Wynne's "inappropriate" comments, I didn't have a problem with them but that might be a context thing. In both of my playthroughs, my PC was clearly headed for a relationship with Alistair (consummated just after RtO in both cases, coincidentally), which relationship Wynne had already acknowledged and commented on, so I took her banter to be purely tongue-in-cheek and her way of trying to make the trip through Ostagar not a total bummer from start to finish (and levity in serious situations is something that Alistair tends to appreciate, after all).

This.

There was so much about RtO that really hit me emotionally.  But I was stunned when Alistair was so casual about that joining cup.  And yes, the banter mode did feel cheap.

I also stopped bringing Wynne with us after hearing her "banter" with Alistair.  :pinched:

They could offer the possibility of having the Warden die. So long as it's not mandatory, I don't think anyone will complain.

I'm glad people recognize that Avernus is a genius. Okay, he's a bastard as well but hey, I'm willing to ignore that if it means I can control the taint.

It's not like I thought I thought she was any more seroius in her flirting that Zevran was when he was talking about her 'magical bosom' but it still felt really wrong and out of place given what a huge massacre that was and that darkspawn were still everywhere, not to mention what had been done to Cailan...

The emotion was definitely there I just thought it  misplaced.

YES!

Extra YES...this always bothered me, especially when in a relationship with Alistair. You give him the cup that symbolizes all the sacrifices wardens make and...nothing? Really? IRL, I would be honored if someone gave me gift that was so personal. Maybe Alistair was speechless.Posted Image

Re Avernus, Its great bringing Wynn along and telling Avernus to continue his research.

Thing is, given what happened there, returning would have been a tissue-fest. It should have at least been touched on, particularly for Alistair. And I agree about Wynne. That's the way I took it, too, as means of distracting Alistair from dwelling--and nothing distracts Alistair, Chantry raised man that he is, like embarrasment at off-color humor.

I've been using Power of Blood regularly on one of my recent games.  He is definitely an evil genius.

I don't put stock in DLC for story terms anyway.  The DLC has been pretty dumb and shallow overall, so they can pleasantly surprise me, but if it turns out that The Witch Hunt amounts to either "I did it for teh lulz" or "I did it for teh ebul," it will be par for the course.

@rak72:

Ahh! What does Wynne say in that case? I have never done the Circle quest before Warden's Keep, not to mention that from now on Wynne will always die or stay in the tower, so I doubt I'll ever see what she says.

Does Avernus have some witty comeback for her?
